It's a missed opportunity to truly understand Deaf individual. If there is a second series hopefully there will be more emphasis on education and family support.

I do agree with everyone that it was strange to have the whole series set on a university yet the focus was on sex, dating and relationship and almost nothing on education. It feels like a conscious bias to me. But it definitely did show that the world is messed up everywhere

This exactly. They covered a range of topics and for that, I enjoyed the show but I wished they included at least a little bit about their education and maybe teacher interaction.

I agree. I wish I learned what they learned and how they learn. But it was really nice to see how great they mingled with the outside world. Like I can't hear but that shouldn't stop me from living a normal life. It proves that they are normal people too

Yes, that’s what I thought at first but it’s to show that the dead community is pretty much alike as the hearing community.

But definitely more background information on all of the main cast members

I think the focus was on how deaf students are typical college students with the same issues as hearing college students going through many of the same things

i totally agree with dalton, i felt that they didn’t portray him correctly, like I don’t know the guy but even I could see there was more to him than what they showed. I SEE THROUGH YOU NETFLIX!!!!

I admired Alexa, Cheyenne, Renate, and Rodney even! I used to get frustrated that people kept assuming I was an “angel” because I’m deaf and I’ve seen other deaf people portrayed that way. This show reveals that we’re like onions- we have many layers than just our deaf/HoH layer. Yes, I like Shrek.

I just watched Deaf U and loved it! These post-show interviews were great to find and watch after the show. Thank you to The Daily Moth and the cast and creators of Deaf U! The world need even more things like this, with opportunities for deaf and HoH folks and even more diverse representations of the community.

As a fully hearing person who has been self-taught ASL on & off for the past 10+ years, I have also NOT attended university OR college. It was great to see a different perspective on the whole "life/school balance" & individual relationships between all the actors. I agree. some of the actors (mostly the men) were not portrayed in the best light & I feel bad for all of them. Also on a somewhat personal level, I would LOVE to connect with each & every one of these people to brush up on my ASL & learn more about them BEHIND the camera

I watched all 8 today after a friend said I should. As a person with Treacher Collins and partially deaf. I relate on many levels. I feel more "normal" and it was something I needed at this moment in my life. I hope they continue the series!

I just finished watching it.... Like right now. Super impressed with the characters, loved that they stayed true to themselves. From Uganda, Deaf U officially made it to the Pearl of Africa in East Africa

Netflix did its thing and put out there what sells... like Alexa being an independent woman but just bc she is flirty it feels like the whole show was about her messing around instead of portraying her like an intelligent and powerful woman.. The entire thing is so refreshing and well done, the cast is fantastic, brilliant, outstanding, why would they miss such a huuuuuge chance to educate the masses on important topics (like the extract on trump was AWESOME and so FUNNY) and instead focusing on the unnecessary drama and exposing them so much... weird

Thank you Daily Moth for this delightful follow-up video to the Netflix series. And a HUGE, HUGE 'thank you' to everyone involved in the series. I am a hearing person and appreciated the opportunity to get a peek into your lives. Each of you is a hero and IMO the series showed you all in a good light. I'd be happy to call any of you my friend. I am relieved to know that you all agree that the series showed the 'real' you, not some exaggerated avatar to titillate the viewiers Please ignore the hate! Sadly, some people are NEVER happy unless they make someone else sad.

Loved the series, hopefully there will be 2nd. Love Cheyenna and Cameron, would be great to see them on the show again.

She graduated, so not likely unless they decide to follow up with the original cast a year or so later.

I think Netflix wanted to get people to watch. There were sex and alcohol etc. to make the show interesting. Niles missed the chance to really help the deaf community. Parents and families of deaf peoples are NOT LEARNING TO SIGN! Niles can make a positive change and really help. Niles comes from a deaf family. He did not have the same experience of the deaf that are alone and not able to communicate with their family. I hope Niles reads this. If Netflix has a 2nd series, Niles, use this opportunity to change things for deaf that are really important.

I know that is true and it’s sad. As a hearing person learning asl for the past 3 years it’s sad to find out that that a parent of a deaf child doesn’t learn asl. I have deaf friends who’s parents learned asl and they have a great relationship with their families. Then I have some deaf friends who’s families didn’t learn the language for one reason or another and they cut contact with them.

Some parents are not even fluent in English. I am a Mexican immigrant whom is a hoh/deaf and my parents never learned to signed. I speak Spanish with them. Particularly my father whom wants me to be the most able passing ever. I am now 23 and it still the same issue, it got him 23 years to make him put some captions . The deaf community in the USA is so expansive. I agree that a lot of deaf/hoh parents do not even bother learning because my parents didn't even bother learning Mexican Sign Language either.

I was a bit disappointed with content. I had hoped more on personal educational issues and goals. Instead, focus on dating, and sexual activity. I haven't finished watching the entire series.🤔
@rottenrafflesia3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the education, their studies and passions. That would add more dimension to their characters.
I 100% agree! I wish the cast and their backgrounds/ families were introduced and incorporated more into the series. Great show! Please bring back a 2nd season!!!!

I like that DQ admits he was wasted for most of it lol
So funny how Daequan and Rodney won’t take any responsibility to their actions.

I feel like it was blown up to be something like a drama when thats not what was explained to the cast. To me who has heard about this school... i did relearn about some stuff that at a student from there has taught me about when it comes to the community both positive and negative... but i feel like there was more negative than positive being shown. I want the people who are editing the show behind the scenes to do much better next time. It almost felt like when ppl get ppl of color on television for a reality show and show nothing but drama and 2 percent good. Its annoying and angering and makes ppl not want to come back. STOP!!!!!!!! Its heartbreaking and terrible for everyone involved.
You deleted my comment. Everything I said was accurate and a reflection of how most people feel about the cast and the contrite and previously unpublicized pecking order that exist in the community. You’re going to see more and more similar comments if this video gets any more views . It was a good show in the sense that it’ll get a lot of attention and the kids on the show will benefit but the general audience is not going to get the point of the show because there isn’t one. Deaf people are just like us? Great.
The show is a complete waste of time. The little people who reside in the deaf world still haven't grown up. Such children they are. I'm not surprised that Gallaudet "University" chose to embarrass itself by being associated with the show. The federal government needs to pull the funding and let the place close down for good because of absymal low graduation rates and virtually almost no jobs created for the profoundly deaf "graduates" in the hearing world.
@MrMathExpert3 жыл бұрын
@@blazeroranger Almost none of them currently has a job in the hearing world given the degree they got from Gallaudet. They just go back to their bubble, aka the deaf world, and stay in it forever.

“The little people who reside in the deaf world” wtf lol mr. math has some serious issues. Just a sheer lack of perspective. Relax math

@@B4IL3Y1 How little you know about them or you are in sheer denial. It isn't a stereotype but a fact.
