I don't own the 3/8 GearWrench mids, so I can't say. I know the 1/4 inch drive Carlyle mids are not the same as the 1/4 drive GearWrench mids. I do own both of those.
@Toyotas_n__Tools6 жыл бұрын
I got the gearwrench metric set for $59 shipped it has the 1/4inch and the 3/8inch metric, you can find them between 40-60 depends on shipping or not if you have a big enough order on some sites.

I been going with gearwrench as my main tool brand, they have some nice stuff for the price and quality theyre defently a underrated brand. I lucked out and won a 21 piece 9 sae 12 met double box ratcheting wrench set for $115 in a ebay auction im waiting to show up any minute now.

I also looked at that deal. Excellent deal.

Check out the ARES socket sets on Amazon. Have the gearwrench mids and the ares are basically the same.

Someone else told me that the Gearwrench, Carlyle, and Ares are all the exact same.

The packaging is alike also.

I get it now. Name ARES with German socket like knurling ... very clever. Too bad no American maker uses functional knurling.

I've got a couple sets of Ares torx & tamper-proof torx. Nothing but good things to say about them. We'll see if they last...but about 6 months so far & going strong.

Great video comparison, the Carlyle, NAPA and Gearwrench sockets deep, shallow & mid are exactly the same sockets in SAE & Metric. I like my mid length sockets the best of both worlds.

mdlee52 yeah free lunch to :) really wish I would have had more money they had some crazy low prices on things today I just had to have the mid depth sockets
@tomjones43186 жыл бұрын
Those are VIM rails and USA made. If you prefer plastic rails they're hard to beat. Come in 3 or 4 different lengths. Black, gray, red, blue, and green color, only black clips. Made for VIM, Wright, Matco, Napa, Cobalt and Craftsman. NAPA sockets look like Gearwrench make.
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
Good info!
@tomjones43186 жыл бұрын
Bonus tip: VIM is the best and have many imitators. Only VIM have the parting line in the middle of the clip. All the others are on the edge.

If you want a 3/8 drive metric impact mid length socket set, look at sunex. they won't brake the bank an run up to 22mm. if you want a cheaper 3/8 chrome set look at ares on amazon. they were like $24 for a set. Carlyle at NAPA on sale are pretty sweet tools for the money!!!!

I have the metric set and I am picking up the same set today had to order it. The metric set is very close to gearwrench except the inside depth is deeper on carlyle. The big advantage to carlyle is I can drop by the store and swap one out if it breaks gearwrench takes a while. I am a huge carlyle fan I have a ton of there stuff.

Wow I bought gearwrench 1/4 and 3/8 mid metrics for just the price of the Carlyle metrics sale price. These look like gw. I will say I’ve needed mids a few times where deeps or shallows wouldn’t work. How do these compare to gw lee any idea??
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын

mdlee52 no it's square nuts on a couple old tables, their counter sunk. My mid length are thin wall but 6 point. I think a 9/16 socket would work on 1/4" square nuts but in this case it would have to be a thin one

Great video thanks brother. I have mid metric in Mac tools. I have I think Craftsman deep and shellow sae. Then just got the OEM tools deep and shellow metric impacts. I always used the mids for everything. I don't think I have any crome metric socket's that are shellow. That would be 3/8 drive my 1/2 drive are all impact. Great deal though I think. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Scott. Someone mentioned that the Mac deeps are mid-length to a certain point, just like the Stanley sockets I showed here.

I have a metric deep and mid there is a difference. I wasn't happy when I got one replaced because the deep was all he had. I took it because I needed it. I know there is about 1/4 inch difference. I have had the set over 25 year's could have changed.

It annoys the heck out of me that I can't get a straight answer from NAPA if they're ever gonna sell Carlyle tools here in Canada. I've asked the guy at the store near me and sent an email directly to NAPA.ca. There's a lot of nice Carlyle tools that I'd buy if given the chance. Ordering them online from the US isn't really worth it once I factor in shipping, taxes and the exchange rate. Nice sockets, good video!
