Dealers CAN'T SELL Cars EVEN At Auction.
In this video I take you to a dealer auction with me and show you what used car dealers are actually paying for cars!
My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.
Thanks for watching and please feel free to leave any comments you may have in the section below!
And make sure you don't forget to LIKE, SHARE AND SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE!!

I used to do the auctions when I owned a junior partnership in a small used lot. I was also the guy who made the decisions 'fix or auction' on the ones we bought or took in trade. Auctions at that time were much easier to understand. You knew what you were bidding, what was bid. If there was any question, even at the big auctions in LA, they would pause and state the number. That's just a bad auctioneer. For two years we did pretty good, because I was good at telling U-joint from transmission problem, electrical gremlins, etc. Then the senior partner decided he could make more money playing the market, in the sense he would just plan on going through the auction, getting cars, cleaning them, and taking them to the next auction for a profit. It actually worked for awhile, with almost no retail sales. I sold him my share. He went out of business ninety days later. It's like playing the stock market, win a few times, and you think you are a master... until you lose your ass.

I couldn't imagine trying to wholesale now with dealers putting way too much money in trades and the cost of repairs these days. My only 2 cents of advice for wholesaling or having a retail lot, 12:50 would be to buy cheap higher mileage Toyota's and Honda's for under $6000 or later model, lower mileage, cars that have a warranty still on them.

@@LeviHeatonIII I think many older people have stable jobs and are at their top earning years with savings. Not everyone, but many are still ok. If you notice, Corvettes are separate from musclecars price wise. Corvettes never got used like a Camaro, Mustang or Charger. They were driven in snow and teens were allowed to drive them. Corvettes mostly weren't used like that so many are still around. Me and the wife are close to retirement and are at our top earning years. I have a vintage Mustang Mach One and a vintage Smokey and the Bandit TransAm and a couple vintage Jeeps. The government has to stop spending money they don't have. They are ruining our currency. I would rock a well maintained high mileage whip over a low mileage known unreliable poorly maintained 1. Family has a 300k Toyota I would trust to drive over my Girls 47k mile Ford, on a long trip

@SamslamminCars Toyota is a good brand. I saw where someone paid out of pocket to get a camry fixed that was likely totaled by insurance, it had to be 15 years old at the time and had 487k miles on it.

Run rates on Honda CRVs, Toyota Rav 4 and Tesla Model Y all hitting at or near 50,000 per Month so someone is expecting buyers anyways...at what price i have no idea but might be able to wholesale for under 20k as new at the moment. What they wound up being sold for December 2023 when looking at that Month excepting Tesla still who knows but volumes were at all time records just for these three alone. BMW on pace to sell an incredible 500,000 vehicles in North America for this Year 2024 so not sure who is buying all of that but sure is somebody. Even Porshe now effectively a volume producer. Brand new Ford Explorer en route for this Calendar Year so this is going the land an awesome amount of metal to the market as well. Not sure what to make of Tesla Cybertruck but that item is rolling out the production line now absolutely so how Ford responds no small matter in World of absolutely *HUGE* bev trucks...maybe 400,000 produced and sold for this Year excluding Rivian which is coming out with a pair of Pocket Rockets for 2025 made in Georgia brand new Factory. Auction will be at the Dealership itself soon would appear. Maybe brand new ICE Platform F150s for under $20,000 to keep the line moving. Again all brand new sheet metal. If oil prices were one us dollar a barrel and gasoline ten cents a gallon a lot of this would make sense as high prices but the exact opposite is still true so in the meantime the flood of pure BEV rolls in instead. Not sure how low an ice platform or ice hybrid can be priced and still be economic to produce as new but $6-$8,000 us dollars sounds about right to me. People want Uber not a car...that is the US market being sold into going on forever now as who wants to drive when you can take an Uber? Class 8 truck sales in the USA were absolutely huge last Year as well. Price run a day cab with 450,000-500,000 miles again might be talking $8-10,000 us dollars at the moment...all ready to drive with a full tank of fuel included. Who needs a store when you can just sell right off the back of truck? That's how Wal-Mart got started anyways and why they have so massive a truck fleet the largest by far on Earth. I think Wal Mart got up an running a massive 3 million square foot distribution center in South Carolina with a 2nd underway in the same State the latter for food distribution apparently. That saves a ton on fuel when every run is just 100 miles to destination and back. Point being why buy a full size truck when i can buy a Freightliner instead? Same thing happening in the US farm tractor market. The flood of product for a Country that doesn't farm all that much anymore or at least "not like it used to" is really amazing to see. Surprised the Auction House doesn't have an in house tractor at this point in point of fact that's how many of those there are and "speaking of Auctions."

I had a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost. Because of the floating cylinders, the gasket fails on cylinder 3. Besides that, the 2.3L Direct Injected engine has carbon buildup issues and the intake should be flushed every 15K miles. Ford does not offer this service. Given the mods (the headlamps) and the look of the interior, It's safe to say this Stang was driven hard and put away wet. Not the car you want to buy out of warranty. Mine blew up at 61K miles, was replaced with a long block, and then short block again at 91K. They may have addressed the gasket problem since then, but it is still a direct injected only engine (no port injection as well like some other ecoboost engines). Still a great car in the twisties, as the engine is some 200 lbs lighter than the V8, but if you are going to abuse it just know it has a short shelf life. If it has the MagnaRide suspension, then it would be worth buying (for cheap) and converting to a 5.2 engine. The engine that's in it probably makes low power in a car that never had much torque. Over 100K miles and that thing is sketchy.

OK OK, please explain to me, anyone here, or the CQA LIVE, with all these bad new to the dealers, "cant sell, its over, its done" whatever, how do these new car dealerships stay in business still? I live in chicagoland area and havent seen not one new car dealer go out of business, and I also follow the stock market, and HONDA and TOYOTA stocks been going up, especially TOYOTA stock, how is it possible that dealers cant sell cars or whatever and TOYOTA stock is at almost all time high?????

Heard that at the Tampa Auction a buyer mis-understood the price, bid 13,000 on a 23,000 van. They stopped the auction, and told the dealer, you owe us $1,000.00 or you are banned from the auction. He paid and then listened more carefully after that. I transported cars for 10 years and went to many different auctions, but only a few while the auction was happening.

Honda Ridgeline has a cult following. One never knows, that camper shell might have made all the difference in swaying a buyer. You may have slighted, out of personal bias, the most re-sellable vehicle on the lot that day. Or, perhaps you were trying to dissuade us from bidding?

Their stalling till income tax season, hoping the bids will get higher. Until then, the franchise dealers are wasting your time. And that 19 Expedition 37k needing a transmission. Dealers know they won't make a profit on it.

not a fan of used car dealers. they are everywhere now, and its just greed. no longer appears to be an honest living. trying to sell cars with 150-200,000 miles for half of or even more than half of what new price was. its insulting and they think they can do this to people forever, but people will grow wiser and will stop over-paying for used cars

Why do you guys stand there when the autioneer says say 10000, then 9000, 8000,etc. then soneone bids at 8000 then you all start trying to outbid oneanother and the price goes back up to like 10000? If you aren't willing to pay 9000 whe he first says 9000 then why are you willing after others start bidding?
