This summer will have about no poker, but it will have a lot of dealing poker. I'm dealing the summer poker series at The Orleans on W Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2024 Orleans Summer Open is the official name. Here are my tales.

Thx for the shoutout! Seems like you are thriving at Orleans. Question - how many times over the years have you been burnt out on poker to the point you needed a break?(is this part of the reason for the dealing gig?) I'm asking because I've played roughly 10k hrs of low stakes poker by now and have been burnt out multiple times to the point where I just couldn't bring myself to go play. So I'm going to add a 3rd income stream soon just not sure what it will be

I played when I could during grad school. Then when I could during law school. And I take 4-8 weeks off during the holidays. Those breaks made it such that I never needed to just stop. -- Were you deep in yesterday's NLHE mtt?

Are your tips recorded or not? There's one casino near me where the dangers count up their tips with a floor manager. Then the dealer gets a receipt, while the casino casino keeps the tips. Then pays the dealer the tips in their paycheck. Sounds like a place I might want to come out and deal for. Ty

That's how it worked in Wisconsin and Oklahoma. In Vegas, you just cash them out at the cage and keep them.

Dude, you're banking so good as a dealer, maybe you should consider doing this part time when the WSOP is over. You, of all people Rice, know that good dealers are always in need and you seem to be handling yourself excellently. I have a friend at Wynn who tells me that it's a really good gig there.

@@cpataxpro it depends on the room and the tournament. Basically all the tips are pooled. The dealer portion of the buyin is added. It is generally split among all who dealt the tournament but not equally. Dealers swipe in T each table or sign a down sheet. Those downs are added up. Let's say there are 100 downs dealt in a tournament and you deal 10. You'll get 10 percent of the tips. Orleans pays a flat rate of $15 per NL down and $20 per down for other events. I guess they are making up the difference sort of like the room covers a guarantee that doesn't make.

@831bweiser Thanks for the nice overview. I always wondered if there was a distribution to the field and an allocation method. Good dealers, especially for the more complex games, are like gold as they are a major factor in how I do poker room comments or reviews. Ty.
