Dealing with difficult family members is definitely something every Nurse comes across! It is important we know how to appropriately deal with these situations to keep our patients and ourselves safe and happy! :)

Absolutely! I felt that you handled this with grace. If this was me I'd be like "hurr durr Im sorry sir, here have some water" and just waddle away like an awkward penguin. I think because of you I am learning how to approach these situations. Thanks Ash!

💯 percent agree people can be difficult when they don’t understand the full picture of what is going on. No one will ever understand unless you do what you do. It is not easy being a nurse in the ICU.

We had a really angry family member of a patient that wasn't even my patient. The angry family got so upset at another family member that they pushed me and another into a wall just to attack this other family member. They were taken to jail from the ER that day.

Thank you for this video Ashley. Dealing with family members is something I'm very nervous and anxious about when I graduate from nursing school. You make it seem so easy and your advice was amazing. I also want to be an ICU nurse with all my heart and you're my greatest inspiration for that. Thank you ❤️

I know this is not related to this video but, I feel like this comment belongs here. I never comment on videos but I in light of your most recent video I feel compelled to tell you to keep doing what you are doing. You put yourself out there which is extremely hard to do. Even though people hurt you with their negativity, you feel strongly enough about letting others see all sides of nursing that you keep posting, and that takes a lot of heart, passion, and courage. I cant tell you to ignore all the bad because I know I could not either, it feels personal, it is on your page for everyone to see, and it sucks that people find it necessary to bring others down for what seems like no reason at all, just to be mean. You give me strength because you help me see that other nurses out there have the same bad days and insecurities I do. The "Fake it till you make it" attitude out there can sometimes be so convincing that you start to doubt yourself. I ask myself all the time what am I missing? Why does this new grad seem to have it completely together and I feel overwhelmed a lot of the time. You find out later that the same new gad is crying in their car after every shift because they do not think they talk to anyone without being judged. Like me, they may not post on your wall, but I am sure there are countless nurses new and experienced that you have inspired in some way. You help people at work and with your free time. Never forget that and keep staying true to yourself. Just try to focus on how many views you have, and know that in those 1,726 (at the time I wrote this) views you helped someone in some way. You are a role model, and hopefully understanding that will give you the strength to keep doing what you do.

I was just reading the 'Stress and Coping' chapter in my fundamentals book when I saw your new video! I think this relates enough to warrant a break from reading :p Thanks for sharing

For someone that makes over $100,000 a year you make a lot of demands on families and patients, I know complaining it’s a daily exercise for nursing, and I know you went through a lot of training to get where you are, and you are receiving the awards of your efforts, so please stop trying to be a Bossy figure…

I used to love your videos because your videos were so informative and it looked like you loved what you were doing, but now all you do is complain!😞

Monica T I fully agree, she seems to complain all the time now
@ScarboroughLane7 жыл бұрын
This wasn't complaining at all. All she said was that when a family member starts to become an issue to the point of negatively impacting your patient you need to handle the situation. That's being a good nurse and patient advocate!

Sarah Beth SS. I don't think so! Before her videos were more informative about stuff but now all she talks about is negative stuff. I know that every job has negative and positive, but she's focusing too much on negative instead of motivating her followers

Sarah Beth SS her latest videos have been "how to deal with difficult patient" "shit crazy patients do that drive me crazy"

Being a nurse isn't an easy job, she's simply stating the ugly side. Family members can be a pain in the ass, she's giving her experience on the subject and I see nothing wrong with it. 🙄
