Hey Petko, great video as always! A small suggestion for the viewing hole is that you could put a red coloured film on the outside of the glass so that when you remove the cover the light gets filtered to red which most Scorpions can't see, that way he won't be annoyed by the camera lights if you want to have a peek at him.

I kept and bred H. arizonensis. I mixed a lot of play sand with excavator clay before adding a bit of water. The excavator clay alone is much harder than the natural desert soil, so when I mixed it with sand, my scorpions dug their own tunnels and the tunnels never collapsed. I just gave them deep substrate and they created a labyrinth of tunnels. I prepared an enclosure such that I had to wait several days for the water to evaporate from the substrate, so that the resulting texture and humidity would be perfect for their excavating activities.

Aaw, I miss my hairy scorpion. His name was Fred. He (or maybe she, I'll never know) was given to me as a full size adult by a neighbor when his son moved away to a college dorm and couldn't take it. I had Fred for years, and he was so cool to watch. I don't normally condone wild collection of animals, but I have been very tempted to take a uv flashlight out to go find another one. They're so common out in the Mojave desert that my boyfriend's chickens have figured out how to eat them without getting stung. Wouldn't be *that* hard to shoo one into a container using a big paintbrush. 😅

It would be cool to find a way to run a small dim LED Light or Light Strip inside the Scorpion Hide. Fix one inside the Clay & run the cable for Turning it On or Off outside the Cage.

nice, i have Desert hairy as well. i made a similar enclosure that was well suited for them to hide. Unfortunately, it makes for poor feeding videos. he doesn't come out. So I'm considiering making one with a hide i can just remove.
