strongly agree. petko's videos are a notch above the others. tarantula collective for example also has great editing and presentation, but theres like no actual content. just endless top 5 lists or repeated info. Dark Den is the complete package.

That ant colony find was actually cool. The lighter ants are kind of a parasitic ant that takes over it’s host colony. They mask with pheromones and kill the host Queen

I would say Petko's original assumptiom was probably more correct. It's not uncommon that you find two colonies in close proximity, for example heating up their brood under a stone. They were separated a lot more than a transitioning colony (going from host to parasitic species) would and the yellow ones were definitely Lasius sp., probably Lasius flavus species group (flavus, myops, idk), non-parasitic yellow ants. The dark ones I'm not sure, either Lasius or some Serviformica (fusca or cinerea groups, idk)

Black Widows are a common household find where I come from, always in tiny little crevices in the walls or under window sills, around gardening equipment like a hose winder or rusty wheel barrow, etc. Hardly ever in the bushes. That's where the Huntsmans are.

We have flies like that indestructible one in Wisconsin! We call them deer flies and they're vicious, laser focused little buggers!

I've heard that it's kinda easy to catch a wolf spider. You just need a rope and gum or plasticine. Making a ball on the end of rope, than letting down and fish the spider

Those wolf spiders look like cats, when they are exploring new cardboard or meeting new person. Nervous, but also curious and slowly approaching in small steps while looking intensively with wide open eyes.

The flat spider in the beginning, should be a Uloborus sp. A really interesting genus wich! They are one of the few spiders which don't have any kind of venom at all, also they are able to reproduce via parthenogenesis.

Fun video! Usually if you put on a headlamp and go walking around at night, you will find widows! They make disorganized nests around barns, creeks and house foundations! I found 8 on one walk around my house last Summer evening! 🎉

Australia has a similar species of spider called the RED BACK spider, I think the red on its back is slightly different shape to americas black widow, venomous but non aggressive,

The beetle you've tried to lure wolfspider with was actually Scarabaeus variolosus, different species than dung beetle from the beginning of the video - that was some Tripocopris or Thorectes.

TY for adventure, live in Texas. Seen similar surroundings and also has wolf, scorpions, tarantulas and widows. My front yard during summer is full of wolf and at least a couple of writers.

Those stone walls along the trail probably had widows. They adapt pretty well & love to web between rocks as you know. They adapt very well. Here in the northeast coast of the USA there are widow species & they aren’t native here. They survive the winters. It’s crazy. Mostly by entering peoples garages & basements 😆 but they thrive. I love the orange look on that wolf spiders face & the contrast on the legs. The wolf spiders here seem to be dark. The wood pile at my parents house growing up was against a stone wall & the wolf spiders loved it for some reason.

Never drink stagnant water, only clear running water e.g. a waterfall. If you have water with you, you can always float the bottle in the undrinkable stagnant water to cool down the fresh water in your bottle

Also I wanted to say that this summer I actually was in Croatia for the first time in my life and your country truly is beautiful. Definetly want to visit again (although it was more expensive than expected:D) I was really surprised at how well most croatians speak english, because it was the first time for me that I went to a country from which I don't know the language, because usually with german, english, french and spanish you can get really far^^ The adriatic sea was really beautiful. Most beautiful sea i've seen yet and it made me want to have a sailboat on it :D I also witnessed a storm hitting the coast and i really enjoyed the moment and the rain while my friens were running for their lives haha^^ It was really nice seeing you this happy when you finally found your widow:D Keep up the great work man and keep doing what you love, because we love to see you doing that. Not sure if anyone already IDied you the other spiders but the one with the interesting pattern in the web is Uloborus walckenaerius, they lack venom glands and catch the prey only using it`s webing and digestive enzymes. The one youve confused at first with Latrodectus is a Linyphiid of some sort- most likely genus Linyphia.
