DEALING WITH A STRIPPED SET SCREW ON SHOWER HANDLE

Awesome video man. Love that you show some of this crazy shit that us repair plumbers face. Every body thinks changing out a cartridge is simple but sometimes it takes forever to get the old shit apart. Very tedious work sometimes

Hammering on that extractor like you did while the handle is attached to the fixture is a recipe for causing even more damage to the fitting and or water leak. It’s one thing to hammer the hell out that handle while it’s sitting on the back of the truck. Quite another when the handle is hanging off the shower wall.

Having that exact problem with fucking stupidest tiniest Allen screws used to hold in faucet handle. Tried everything but can’t get leverage needed to get any grip on screws.

Lucky you! You not only already have the faucet handle OFF, but your set screw isn't recessed by 1/2 inch!

If you're dealing with a stripped 2mm hex set screw, try using an S1 square scew driver (bit). Push hard while turning and using your other hand to support the other side of the handle. Worked for me on my Moen shower handle.

It's always those tiny mo fo screws that causes so many headaches. I try using metric allen, then torx, and a left hand drill bit before I get mid evil.

Thanks for the idea, got one on a Delta Faucet bath/shower handle that is seized hard just like the one you showed here. Will probably try this next, great tip.

i would have tried heat just to see what it would have done to the finish . I have tried heat on a delta bonnet nut and it worked .

John, I had the same problem with a Moen Chateau plastic shower handle. It was a regular phillips head screw not a allen type screw. The screw was stripped badly. I was going to back it out, do this do that, etc. On the internet I found VAMPLIERS BRUTE™ 6.25" WORLD'S BEST SCREW EXTRACTION PLIERS VT-002-6. I used the Vampliers and had the screw out in less than a minute.

Yeah pain delta kitchen handle is doing the hard to get out routine today. Just need to replace the cartridge. Now its a extractor routine also. Delta get a better lock screw on these plumbing items.

I have a four piece Maybe five piece extractor for screws you get it at Home Depot one end has a tiny drill bit to make the hole the size it needs then you flip it around and put it in reverse and it's a little head that looks like a file and it digs into the hole as you go in reverse and brings it out I have good luck with that.

They're call speed outs and they work on some things but are not ideal for getting into a handle like that, they are to big in diameter to get into the hole, I've found anyway, I have a set and can't say they've ever worked for me yet in a situation like that!

I'v had luck with torx keys getting stripped set screws out , but it is common to have to band saw off the handle.

Hi John, If you have time to answer an ignorant question would well appreciate it. One of my feral fittings on the supply line from a dishwasher to the hot water under the sink is overcompressed I believe. It would be difficult to for me to get out of the dishwasher side, so is there anyway I can put a washer rubber washer in the side of where there's a feral fitting since there isn't much pressure coming out of there?? Hope you understand the question 🤠

I'm not John but from what I'm understanding your supply to your dishwasher witch should be hot side is leaking at a compression fitting? You could try to put an o ring or a rubber washer of some sort that would fit the pipe but your best bet is to have plumber fix it the right way!

And by the way that will be pressurized to whatever your city pressure or well pressure is set to! Unless you shut the supply of to the dishwasher.

Nice tip. But try hammering that in while on a faucet wont be so easy. I guess you could take the handle off, beat the removal tool in, pit it back on and then remove the set screw. 😉 Think outside the box

I would do it like I did it,break the plastic handle adapter,remove set screw and re use the handle,I have many plastic adapters on my truck for moen. Thanks brother for watching
