Thank you for this! My nitrates and ammonia were spiking in my new planted tank and had no idea it was because my pH had dropped. No one has mentioned this in the dozens of videos I’ve seen so far. Buffering it now to kick things back into gear.

Hi if I got ammonia nitrite and nitrate all presence in my tank Is the tank cycle?
@shariisaac10932 ай бұрын
I am confused and don’t understand what the purpose of Prime would be. I have a tank with high nitrites. If I understand correctly I can put some Prime in it and it will neutralize the nitrites. I also understand that this only lasts for 24 to 48 hours. After that you have to repeat. So why do you do this? Besides protecting the fish from the harmful effects of the nitrites is it to postpone a water change? Is it to give the beneficial bacteria a chance to grow? Do you have to keep dosing the tank for as long as you have the tank? Or maybe is the carbon filter is supposed to pick up bound nitrites, nitrates and ammonia? Please help. Thank you.

Prime does nothing but remove chlorine and chloramines from the water, which gives the beneficial bacteria time to grow. the beneficial bacteria are doing all the nitrifying. Prime is just a normal dechlorinator.

Good informative video. I have used the prime or seachem safe in these situations, but I also use seachem stability along with it to boost the bacteria growth to catch up with the ammonia. Do you personally find much value in the bacteria in a bottle?

Wow I’m glad I don’t have these problems because my tank is perfectly balanced. I haven’t changed water for 3 months.

Another quality video dude, wanted to ask a question if that’s ok …. I’m going on holiday for 2 weeks , the tank has been going for 6 months so is very established, I do a 80% water change weekly ……. I am very worried about leaving it 2 weeks with out the water change ….. is there anything I can do???
@TANK-TV2 жыл бұрын
It will be fine as long as you are not feeding which will also be fine as fish will go 2/3 weeks without food with ease. 3/4 days before gradually lower their daily food and gradually drop the temp 2/3 degrees to lower their metabolism. Do your normal water change the day before you go so you can check all is well before you go. As you not feeding the bio load will be absolute minimum so no water change for 2 weeks will be fine. When you return again slowly increase feeding from a little and slowly increase temp again. Most people actually report returning home to find the fish more active and colourful after a 2 week holiday and not being fed. Ow and keep your lights off unless you have plants or only at an 8 hour period if you do

Detox it immediately with prime water conditioner then go about changing 30 percent of the water every day. I wouldn't do 90 percent unless you have fish dieing on you

Thank you for the video, very informative and useful buddy. Can I confirm it’s ok to add prime with the fish / shrimps in? Currently suffering high nitrite and nitrates in my tank. Thanks again.

I’m also going to enquire at local shops if they have cycled media 🤞

How did you get on? I’m in the same boat, zero ammonia high nitrite and nitrate

@@SimonCarson_Racing after a week it leveled. To remedy I added some floating plants and daily water changes and adding some beneficial bacteria when adding water.

@@SimonCarson_Racingsame thing add plants especially floating plants to help with nitrates levels also help with nitrites is constant water changes to add new water everytime and also some kind of beneficial bacteria in the sponge filter or where ever your filter is so the bacteria and grow on to and fight off and eat the other molecules to help with the cycle to work properly again
@BIGDADDYTRICKZ5 ай бұрын
@@SimonCarson_Racingalso clean out dead debris like dead plants floating around so you can help lower the levels of waste as well rotting plants are another thing that contributes to the cycle so clean out dead floating plants frequently also help with other live plants to soak up more nutrients from the environment as well
