Dealing with setbacks/relapses on the way to recovery

Hi Aaron, Checking in again :) I’m doing great! 🙌 Glory be to God. I’m free from fear, anxiety, depression and insomnia. From time to time I do get setbacks but I always tell myself “I’ve been through worse” then I proclaim the powerful verses of God to rebuke all the lies. Dedicating my time to the things of God really brings me so much peace. Aaron, thank you for letting God use you. I can’t tell you how much relief I felt when I heard your testimony, I was literally shocked at how much similarities we had with our mental health challenges. I knew this time around in my journey I would experience a miracle, and sure enough I’m a testament to many miracles by the hand of Jesus Christ. Medication free!!! Better relationships!!! A rededicated life in God!!! And I’m sure this is all only the beginning.

Sometimes when worry creeps in it's helps to do something. Either to worship, read bible, books, cook, sit outside, watch inspiring film, exercise and lots of things we can do and to have perspective yesterday is gone tomorrow is uncertain and today is a gift. Just focus on today.

I've been falling back to how I was at the beginning of my anxiety. I just accepted everything and just focused on God and worked on faith a lot. It helped me so much but then I started getting headaches again, beck pain, shoulder pain. I was slowly thinking "it's gonna be a stroke" but then I kept pushing them back and went back to God to help calm my mind. I regret letting those thoughts get to me. Because I had a panic attack again thinking I was gonna die. I cried to my husband and told him I didn't want to go back to how I was 😞😞 and then I got sick and everything fell apart.. I just need Jesus, so much. Everything of him :(

Go back to what helped you initially: surrender and trust in Jesus with abandonment to everything else. If you perish, you do so on God's timing and perfect plan for you. If you continue to live, may you be used by Him to accomplish His good and perfect will for your life. It's okay to surrender completely to God; in fact, it is the safest place to be. When fear comes, know that they are lies. Instead, look to truth, which is Jesus and His promises. Also, don't be discouraged if you fall back into fear at times. Your earlier progress were not in vain. Learning to totally surrender and trust in God often takes time and practice, so don't be discouraged one bit if it takes time. God bless you.

The Lord is good he will never leave us without support, he cares greatly for us, he has revealed so much to me, whilst I am still going through some things, I know God is working this out for my good, I have never given up as I trust him with my life, the enemy still throws lies at me which go on in my mind like a dripping tap, I have a days where I feel completely normal, and other days where I actually defeat the enemy with Gods word and faith in him and the strength I have through Christ and the devil flees, it is a process which I know God is working through, it will be for his complete Glory, he has given me eyes to see and ears to hear, but for now I must remain patient and keep trusting that he knows what he is doing.

Hi Aaron, I watched your video about "Jesus healed you from Panic Attacks" and "Reflecting on my Last Trial." The last video affected me knowing that you experienced panic attacks again after you did the testimony. I based my freedom on your video, which is why I got affected when you said that it came back :'(. I felt like mine came back after watching that video. But the Holy Spirit is telling me not to base my freedom on your video and experience. It is Jesus who sets me free and whoever the Son sets free, he is free indeed.

Hello friend, I’m glad you left me this comment. Assuming you are a Christian, you have absolutely no reason to fear. The truth is it doesn’t matter whether you experience any mental afflictions again or not because God’s promises hold true all the time. For example, if it comes back it only came back with God’s authorization and only comes to benefit you. Whatever the enemy intends for evil, God uses it for your good. Also, you and I are different persons and God has a different plan for each of us. Just keep your eyes on Jesus and follow Him. With God using all things for your good, even panic attacks, and His grace always sufficient for you, and how it is now Jesus living in you, you have nothing to fear whatever comes your way. The main reason you are fearing such things, which is common especially coming out of a trial, is because you are not completely surrendered. It’s easy to take back control. So, when you fear, realize you need to again surrender and trust in God. You have nothing to fear. God bless you!

I just felt fearful after knowing that yours came back and I'm afraid that mine would come back even though I was doing good, but the Holy Spirit is telling me that whoever the Son sets free, He is free indeed. I just need to stand on my victory and let the Holy Spirit control me. It's so easy to base my situation on what others experience, which is why I become fearful again. The verse from Luke 22:31-32 “Simon, Simon, Satan has ASKED to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Notice the word "ASKED." Satan cannot do anything to us unless God permits it. But Jesus gave as an assurance that He prayed for us so that our faith may not fail.

I saw a comment of a person saying that saying god can cure depression is preaching a false gospel ): while I know Jesus isn’t some instant cure to all our problems I believe he can Provide peace and comfort to those of us with mental disorders like anxiety or depression and even make us better. I know that when I have anxiety creep up I quote scriptures out loud for the enemy to hear “god did not give me a spirit of fear but a spirit of love and a sound mind” and I say I wear the armour of god and I feel better.

You are very welcome; all credit to Jesus. When worries try to invade my mind, the three verses I go to most often are 2 Corinthians 12:9, Romans 8:28, and Galatians 2:20. There are other good verses I shared in the video Overcoming Anxiety, but these three verses and truths that come from them are ingrained in my heart and mind. They basically act as a shield that completely surrounds me from any and all attacks from the devil, flesh, and the world.

You must resist those fearful thoughts by immediately surrendering it all to Jesus. In faith, trust that God will take care of you according to His promises. This is a battle you must learn to fight by surrendering and trusting in God.

Hi, I responded to some of your earlier comments just recently. Email is the primary way I correspond, so feel free to reach me at [e-mail]. Surrender is total. Whatever you fear anything, surrender it to God. Surrender your existence to God, including when and how you die because you know God works all things for the good of His children. As for your assurance of salvation, bring your situation to God humbly and in faith. Then, trust in Jesus completely and wait on Him to answer. Look to Jesus as your only hope, and wait humbly at His feet. He loves His children and knows what He is doing. Don't despair, but trust in Jesus alone. God bless you.

Yes, it does. However, as you keep surrendering and trusting in Jesus alone, it gets easier. Eventually, it becomes a way of life and peace becomes the norm. This is not only good for you, but it is a God honoring and fruitful way to live.

More like fed up, stuck in a cycling loop over a decade financially bc my narcissistic parent is committed to keeping me poor by sabotaging all attempts to start my business from home. No money to move out, yet they lie that they want me to succeed while beating me over the head with bills to get me to submit. T-Zay and Sweet Victory, I prayed for you both just now. I'm sorry to hear of your deep pain. It's okay to express your pain and sorrows. I encourage you to always bring it to God in prayer. Be honest with Him, and humbly make your requests known to God. He hears. When you are desperately beat and without any strength, you can even make a simple prayer like, "Please help me God." And if you ask humbly and in faith, He will. But do not be deceived like many when they don't receive the help in the way and time they expect. God works in His perfect timing and way. It is your duty to trust in His ways and timing by faith. Don't despair friends. No matter how bleak it looks, there is hope because Jesus lives. He is close to the brokenhearted. He will never forsake His children. He is faithful. I advise you not to dwell on negative thoughts because they are not from God and often a trap by the devil. Ignore them because those negative/fearful thoughts are nothing but lies. Instead, focus on the moment. Don't look ahead into tomorrow. Obey God today, and that is enough. How do you obey right now? Do what you believe God wants you to do, and then leave all the consequences to Him. Stay in prayer and in the word of God. Think about Jesus. Think about His awesome and true promises. Choose to believe all His words. Know that God can make beauty out of ashes; no matter how wet and hopeless that ash can look right now. God bless you both.

I'm currently dealing with this. Since May, I was making progress and then mid september I started feeling unwell. Normally, i feel better after a week but this time it dragged on, im still not well and it's been almost a month now. Im taking some blood tests tomorrow but i bet nothing will show up. Ive been running around in circles looking for answers for the past 11 years and nothing. I dont know whats happening, i feel so helpless.

Hi Alexandra, I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what your hang up is. Ask in faith and wait on Him. If you are already surrendered before Him, you must move forward in faith doing what you believe God wants you to do with the attitude of: "Come what may, for my God is faithful." His grace is always enough to sustain His children. God bless you.
