Indeed. They could have made it so "he forgot" about the deal and was happy by accident in the end when everything was ok, and then he would be taken away form it. This way he got to make the call himself and his death actually meant something. He got to tell Dean how he felt And save Dean at the same time.

His true happiness, Dean. The love of his extremely long angelic life, Dean. The one who changed him from a celestial being not really caring about the world to something else, Dean. The one he rebelled for, Dean. The one he can save by sacrificing himself, Dean. Of course he loves Sam and Jack too but his heart belongs to Dean, has always belonged to Dean. When he finally confesses his love openly his happy moment has come and he finds some sort of peace. Dean, on the other hand, is not mentally prepared the same way Cas is. He didn't know about the deal with the empty or what that could mean. He is not ready to lose Cas again and it's like he can't take it in, he refuses the very thought. Then in the last moment, when the empty creeps through the wall, he seems to realize. The way he looks back at Cas, tears in his eyes, and says his name like he is begging him to say that this is not happening, the expression on his face of being utterly lost and he is lost without his angel, at least he was in season 13. They belong together, they are two sides of the same coin. I don't know if anyone here has read Robin Hobbs marvellous books about Fitz and The Fool, but this reminds me a lot of them. Thank you for this great video and the perfect song. My salvation, what could be more appropriate.

15 seasons...something just massively exploded inside me, from those 15 seasons we've got 12 which had one of the greatest, deepest purest and saddest love stories ever, about angel being in love with human, even thou Cas couldn't ever get what he wanted, I totally see how he valued every second he spent with Dean, how innocently he just enjoyed Deans presence... it is just great, and even if now Cas is unreachable, I am so glad he got to experience so much love and care through Dean and his family... Charlene Rafferty I’ve always had a feeling that it was never really about the looks for Cas. I have a personal headcanon that when angels see humans, they see their souls. As an angel, Cas probably wouldn’t care about the way a human looks, but Dean was the righteous man. He had a good heart and a good soul, and I think that’s really why Cas fell in love with him.

Incredible, and with the perfect song choice. I watched that scene a bunch of times but with your video it was the first time I stopped to really focus on Cas' face just as he's about to be taken into The Empty - he glances at Dean, shoved out of harm's way, with absolute, inviolate love shining on his face. He allows himself to bask in it and he looks at what's coming for him with clarity and choosing this as yet another decision not controlled or predicted by Chuck. Dean hasn't even had time to consider Chuck's confirmation/revelation that Cas has never been under his control and what it means for the magnitude of Cas' actions, the very opposite of the centuries in the making soulmates that Mary and John Winchester were turned into by heavenly machination. He's been angrily panicking all season up to now that nothing in his life is real, that choice is an illusion, that he's a rat trapped in a deadly maze all his life but Castiel is the undoing of that. Thank you so much for deftly showing their connection.

And this scene... Just wow. I am not recovered yet ! The way Cas said "I love you", wow ! He already said it but it was unsure (the "I love you, I love all of you" could have been for Dean, Sam and Mary after all). But now, there is no more hesitation : he said it directly to Dean, eye to eye, so sincere and true. Now, I only hope for one thing : that this is not the end for Cas ! He deserves his hapiness, more than a few seconds. Here is what I wish for the last episodes : Dean will go into the empty to save Cas (like he did when he raised him from hell). And saying something along the lines of : "How can I save the world if I'm not even able to save the one I love? Because, this is how Cas said... I'm being here because every time I do something, I do it for love." (Yeah, I know, I'm just dreaming xD). Beside my hopes, I truly wonder how Dean will react to that love declaration.
