We used to use them about 20 years ago but we made them with power gum

The whole idea of a paternoster was to enable you to strike into the fish and not the weight or feeder first so it was more direct that's how it works! What I don't understand is the use of swivels either on the line or feeder itself or both as there's no weight or mass for them to work, the line runs inside the swivel so twists within, and with the feeder hollow it just rotates on the line so the swivel never comes into play.So to sum up if you have a swivel it should be on the hooklenth where it works! As for a paternoster 99% of fish hook themselves anyway their is no such thing as a shy biter, I mean are the fish in a canal any different from their lake, river, pond reservoir, garden pond cousins,of course not. 👍

I still don't understand how a link just a couple of inches long significantly improves simply having the feeder running on the line?

Sandra Winter, me either. I do a lot of feeder fishing and the simple physics of it doesn’t make sense to me. When the hook is pulled I can’t see what difference it makes if the line is sliding through a swivel directly above the feeder or two inches away. Certainly don’t see why a short 2inch link gives a ‘slight bolt effect’. It’s totally free running so how can that be? If anything, I’ve tried the feeder links and find that your a little more prone to tangles with the hook length getting caught up around the crimps etc. Would like to see one of the feeder team show how they work in a fish tank to show exactly what the benefit is because If it genuinely works then I’d use them

Daniel Taylor ,agree with that totally,I've asked a lot of top feeder anglers this and not one has been able to tell me why/what the advantages are of these booms are are over just running the feeder on a snaplink!

Running feeder links only , no hair rigs , no pellets , minimum 50cm between the bottom of the feeder and hook and no imitation baits and baits must be mounted on the hook , all these things are all well and good but if the majority of anglers now fishing the likes of feeder masters continue to fish the big money matches that allow all those things which are banned under international rules then Mr Pickering will just pick a team of his mates instead of anglers that are capable of fishing to the acceptible international standards ... The trials were held at barston and the stipulation was that Tommy needed anglers that could fish a feeder comfortably at 87 yds ,,, Tommy has to just assume that the anglers he chooses to fish for England are capable to fish a yearly one off match to the rules and that is why he will choose his mates ,,,, his clck.
