Lori Lieberman wrote this song after going to a Don Mclean concert. Mclean was a disarming poet in his early days. A lot more to him than "American Pie." Take a listen to "Tapestry "and "Homeless Brother" Albums. The man could write and croon. And Mclean's song "Crossroads" on the Pie album is the most moving song about suffering depression I've ever heard. Poetic masterpiece in my opinion. I met Don after a concert in Tweed Heads NSW Australia. It was an anti climax. I was so star struck and he was friendly, but largely detached and disinterested. I wasn't offended. He'd been on the road for something like 50 years. He'd met a million people like me.

I spend more time on KZbin than I probably should and come to realize that this is one of the best if not the best cover on KZbin ! I can't say enough about the soulfulness in your voice . Side note: This song was written about a reaction to Don McLean singing "Empty Chairs." It's not a love song. So props to Dean for not changing it to "...with her fingers..." etc.

Yes and it was originally done by Roberta Flack in the '70's and it was in response to her listening to Don McLean playing a song; I had heard it was "American Pie" but could be wrong. Too many youngins who didn't grow up in the 70's/80's think it was written by the Fugees. Sorry, but their version sucked. This guy gets it. Love his rendition.
