Dean Koontz collection, he may be trashy to some, but there is no doubting his immense popularity.

Unrelated to this video, but I've recently discovered I love haunted house horrors. Would be great to see a video with some recommendations for that style of horror :)

I would need to read a few more before putting out such a video. Would strongly recommend The Shining, even though it is more a haunted hotel.

@@CliffsDarkGems thankyou! I've mostly watched haunted House stuff (American horror story, haunting of hill house/bly manor) but The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (evil housekeeper really) were both great on that genre. Be interested to see what you can find if you can find any :)

I've read almost ALL of Koontz, and IMO "Lightning" is the best plotted. How no one's made a movie yet is mind blowing to me...yet I don't see how it would be as great as the book anyway lol. BTW if you compare the collective "star" ratings on Amazon, it comes out on top compared to his other books. It's a clever, brilliant sci-fi/time travel story. A must-read IMHO.

I really want a McD cheeseburger now. Older Koontz is my favorite for sure: Phantoms, Intensity, The House of Thunder, Watchers, Cold Fire, The Bad Place, Winter Moon and Velocity as well, that was a really good one :)

A friend recommended Koontz last year and I read quite a few. I really like him though he's more thriller then horror. Someone made a Koontz checklist on Goodreads because certain things keep appearing like dogs, a precocious child, beautiful blonde woman and bougainvillea. I'll recommended "Demon Seed". it's a short read, sci-fi horror. Gave me nightmares. ;)

Yes he does seem to repeat similar characters, situations and dogs, Golden Retrievers lol. I will definitely check out Demon Seed, thanks for the recommendation!

🤣 I love your analogy of burgers and comparing authors. I've never read any of Dean Koontz's work but I do want to pick up Prodigal Son at some point. It is a Frankenstein retelling.

I enjoyed The Taking...very creepy but you are correct it did seem inspired by The Mist. From my recollection, the Frankenstein series was a bit of fun too in the mass appeal vein of Odd Thomas.

Nice video, Cliff. I've only had 1 Koontz experience, Dragon's Tear. I didn't care for it. Not a cheeseburger I was fond of. I've been debating whether or not to give him another chance. Problem is, with so many books, if I give him a second chance, which book?

The only Dean Koontz books I've read have been the Odd Thomas series. Overall I enjoyed them, although I thought some were better than others. If you haven't read them, I'd say give the first one a go, then decide from there if you want to continue on with the series. I have a few others you mentioned in the video, but I haven't read them yet(Sole Survivor and From the Corner of His Eye). Intensity sounded interesting, I might have to give that one a go down the line.

Why would you think Koontz's books are Trashy, you speak about his work as if your talking about Guy N. Smith books LOL! Yes, some if his books are, but not Lightning, The Bad Place, Cold Fire, Servants of Twilight, Dragon Tears, False Memory, Hideaway, Watchers, Phantoms etc. etc. I remember The Key to Midnight, Joanah keeps seeing a Doctor's hands with metal gloves standing over her with a big syringe in a dream. Not one of his best. Great video!😀👍

Thanks for watching! Yes, lol not all of his books are trash, but I suppose that depends on your definition of trashy books. I loved Watchers and The Bad Place so I do enjoy Dean Koontz. 🤣Guy N Smith is on a completely different level of trash... sometimes fun, but utter trash! 🤣
