I was blessed with a studio singing career for 55 years. During that time I worked for 6 years on the Dean Martin tv show. The greatest man to work for EVER. The whole drinking thing was his schtick, it was apple juice. RIP Bods, I truly miss you

Nan Dowden I think that was probably a large part of his popularity (apart from his amazing talent of course). There was never any big star ‘don’t you know who I am’ air about Dean. He always came across as just a regular guy, the sort of bloke you could have a pint with down the pub, and he and Jeannie seemed like the sort of friendly family you’d like to have as neighbours.

Never forget the eyes of a cute young cashier when Dean's voice came over the airwaves one Christmas season as she was ringing up my purchase. Her pupils flared as she looked up at the screen to see who was singing. Quite a response!

@@jodeeb.6496 Yep. by ALL accounts, Dino's death was the precipitous downfall of Dean. He not only never got over it, but it's essentially what killed him. I remember footage of Dean getting out of a limo many months after Dino's death, and he looked like death warmed over. VERY sad to watch him, as it was obvious he was a completely broken man who was waiting to die.

JaleelJohanson62 Although he was well-loved by just about everyone who knew him, Dean apparently wasn’t much of a party animal, unlike Frank. He was by nature a more quiet and private man, who preferred to retire early so he could be up early the next morning to play golf. But you’re right, his wonderful sense of humour made him very popular company whenever Jeannie could drag him out to a social function.

If there is anything to be said about Dino, it is that he was FUN! He did not see himself as "cool" -- he was just being himself! He went through some bad times with the loss of his son in 1987, but he tended to roll with the punches and ended up on his feet. Good guy.

History proved that Dean Martin had more talent than Jerry Lewis especially when it came to comedy, dramatic roles and success on television. When the team split in 1956 the so-called critics had predicted Martin's show business career would be over with in a year. Boy were they wrong.

Sinatra was in awe of his friend, Dean. Sinatra worked to seem relaxed. Martin just WAS relaxed. Sinatra sang, but also conducted a handful of albums. One of them was with Peggy Lee. The other was with Dean Martin.

My mom couldn’t stand him because he always made being a drunk a big joke. She had a good reason too. But, when I discovered Dean in my adult years I found him to indeed be a great entertainer, a great dad and man can he sing. I have my Dino music collection and have played them hundreds of times and they never get old. Truly, the king of cool.

I'm glad I got to grow up watching the Rat Pack. Kids of today will never know the excitement of being a kid in the 50s & 60s. Turning on a tv & seeing a beautiful color picture was just magical. Then, being able to watch people as Dean Martin just topped it off.

Dino was truly a gem -- so cool, (but not that guy above trying to imitate him, bubbles or whatever his name is) Dino was handsome, great voice, good actor, he had it all. He was NOT the boozer everyone thought, that was an act he did well, but he did smoke, a LOT, couldn't quit, and it killed him. I went to some of those after-show parties back stage, and Dino always had a cigarette going, but he was one of the first to say goodnight and leave, while the rest of us were up until all hours. We miss him and all of "The Summit" guys! Those were truly the good 'ole days!

When I was a child, the only thing I knew about Dean was that he sang "That's Amoré" and "Everybody Needs Somebody Sometime." Maybe saw a couple of his variety show episodes, especially the Christmas ones. But I never really appreciated him or his talent. Now, at 56 years old, I think he was DEFINITELY one of the coolest cats ever! I binge watch (and listen to) everything of his I can find. I am totally hooked on his Celebrity Roasts and the western movies he starred in! To me, he and Sammy Davis Jr. were the most talented gentlemen of that era and I can't get enough of either of them 💕!

If I have interpreted your comment correctly Mark L then I agree with you. McQueen was cool in his movies but he had nervous habits of rapid speech and fidgety moves, not because he was nervous but because he was full of energy and always on the go. To me he seemed like he wanted to fit in as much as he could in life and raced out to embrace it which is why he seemed fidgety.
