I love the current format of your video`s, Many modelers post "instructional video" and "running session" videos separately. You are currently including short running clips in your instructional/demo video`s which I enjoy personally, even though I enjoy both separately. Its very humbling that you keep saying you are no expert, but your finished work suggests otherwise. Modelling is just as any art form, it is YOUR representation of what you observe, and we all see the world through different eyes. I am 1 of your 8.4K subscribers, so you must be getting something right. Happy Modelling.

Hi Darren, thanks for getting in touch to say you like the format. I try to break things up with a bit of running action. I tend to do running sessions on special occasions, ie 8000th subscribers, Christmas, etc. But sometimes its good just to have a mix. Your'e right about it being an art form....its all about how we see it and represent it. Dave

You might be able to salvage your compressor by fitting an additional water trap to get rid of any moisure that makes it past the first one. Remove the screw-in connector that goes to the airbush pipe, and get a water trap and male/male connector and some PTFE tape.... and mount them in series. It shouldn't cost more than £10-15. I have two water traps in my compressor, and no mousure or oil gets through. I can't give you a brand for my compressor, because I made it myself out a fridge motor, a CO2 fire extinguisher, water-trap, pressure release valve and a gauge/regulator/water-trap combo. I built it 10 years ago for just £65, and you'd be paying around £300 for something to the same standard. Other than the fridge motor and fire extinguisher, all the parts came from a local hydraulics/pneumatics firm. Here's a pic. drive.google.com/open?id=0B8YhidRvU95pQzNOWTcwQVlqQTA

ive made what I call a feathering stencil..plasticard with a slot cut in it in the shape of spear head..5mm to 10mm at the top to a sharp poit at the tip,it depends on the hight of or lengh ye want the streak to be..30mm to 50mm ,so ye would cut in plasticard say say 8mm at the top 40mm in lengh and cut out the long V shape again epending on lengh etc,ive made 3 or 4 different hights or lengh on separate card for variation,the next step is to fit spacers on the back f it say 30mm to 50mm depending how dark ye want it,the nearer it is the more dark or pronounced it is deeper space equals lighter streaks..dont put the spacers near the feather stencil as this can make a sharp edge and the point of the space makes the feather effect more translucent..as youll see the effect is is really awesome..ive used them [stencils] in this fashion for more years than I can think of for a variety of things..lollipop chupa chups sticks are plastic tube and ive used them for pipes that rotude in the walls for standing water and used green paint for the algea that comes down from them..experiment with it using greys n blacks and white as lime in the mortar can run down in amongst it...the kay like ye said is experiment and using the steils speads up the process..it the same technique for weathering locos n wagons and the like..hope ye try it as it makes it all a bit more fun n positive approach and less worry if ye fek it up and youll be more confident in what you do...glesga jim

Very cool Dave! Yeah I have a harder and steenbeck airbrush and sparmax compressor, Maybe a little overkill but I heard the same about airbrushes and compressors in that buying abit more expensive in this instance does equal better quality (of course also down to the skill of the user) Cheers
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 жыл бұрын
yeah I might have to invest in a good one....but I don't do much finesse work, ie loco repaints. It has worked flawlessly until recently...I think it was to do with the cold air in the shed, condensing as the compressor heated up, hence the water in the pipe!

Hi, there is one thing I hate when people are doing tutorials....they just say "and use some grey ballast".... and "using some green static grass....". I always want to know what brand and where I can buy it. There are hundreds of grey ballasts out there lol....so when I do a step by step I try to remember to say the brand of what I am using etc. So I am really glad you appreciate me putting that detail into my videos. Hope you continue to enjoy Dean Park and the videos I upload. Dave

theres no filter element in your bleeding chamber dave that's why its probably spitting out moisture,ye can use corrugated cardboard cut into strips that notch into a star shape if ye get what I mean like staranise lookin from above the elements are stupid money but the card works for me,ive the same machine with a 5ltr tank at the bottom...try it ,it makes a difference..

I tried to do the mortar, it never seems to work for me. Maybe I will try again with the dry brushing to see if it helps. Maybe watching your video it will help me do a better job, thanks for the video.

it should unscrew at the knurly ridge at the point below the valve,they can be a bitch to unscrew as theres an o ring under it n for some reason or other some makers even put sealer on them that acts like a glue,mine was quite easy ,if it feels like it glued give a good twist but dont use pliers or a tool as itll probably fracture,the thing about filtering is it soaks up any moisture in the chamber thats atomised inside it...

Very well presented tutorial Dave, thank you. I wondered as you worked through it whether or not a variation in the base coat before applying the mortar would be effective in reducing the amount of work at the weathering stage? What are your thoughts on that? Cheers, David.
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, mmm possibly. But I would have to apply it either way, so before or after the mortar. Good thing about after the mortar is that it takes away the sandy wash from the tops of the bricks. Cheers. Dave
