yes i do like that Dave, looked for the walthers sub station electric gubbins and transformer but all were out of stock. I did get the bachman 44-0026 sub station from the model shop in the I.O.M, ordered it Monday just after lunchtime arrived here on Tuesday at 1045 am. John

Dave, always a great pleasure to watch and learn from your videos you have a great eye for detail and your layout is a credit to you. I am originally from Manchester UK but has resided in Toronto Canada for almost 43 years. I had a model railway layout when I was a little boy (very basic) and am finally slowly getting back in to it. Keep up the fantastic work.

Dave. The open location (relay box) is excellent. Well done on making the internal frame which is just how the real ones are made. Those tiny parts must of needed a lot of patience to put together. The 3 columns are indeed the cable entries. On the other undetailed side they are connected to the internal wiring going up to the equipment that relays the commands from the interlocking to the points signals ect. and sends the response from them back to the interlocking. The track and point look great as well. Add a telephone with a man talking to the signaller one looking at the points and one looking in the location and you have a little scene where they are checking everything is proven in the correct position and showing the correct indications in the signalbox. The assessor looking on to mark how they are doing. The compressors are large but the railway used ones like these track side as well as them being used for road works. Thanks for showing your new camera. I was impressed with the views from inside the signalbox
@DeanPark6 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for all that info, very helpful. I have a telephone to fit. I may have one of those compressors at the BR depot....I move on to build that at some point lol. Dave

Very impressive. Landed here as it was suggested by KZbin and I'm amazed at the excellent attention to detail of your builds. That is a quality I can look up to - than you for sharing. I take it you've got an extensive shop to be laser cutting etc? Did you do a "my gear and tools " video at some point?
@DeanPark6 жыл бұрын
Hi...thanks for watching. I actually don't have a laser cutter, my friend has a small A3 sized one which I get limited access to. I've only made 1-2 things on it for the layout. Its great fun, but I prefer to do things by hand as that's enjoyable for me. Please share and 'spread the word' of my channel to your fellow modellers I really enjoy hearing and watching Railroad layouts from your side of the pond. All the best. Dave

Another excellent video Dave, well done with all your efforts there. I do like your S&T training centre and the open relay box is a great touch. Not sure about the relay platform kits, may be a bit to late for your period. They have only appeared on the Western area in the last few years. Never mind about the 4K camera, i want to see your layout in 3D. LOL. All Best.
@DeanPark6 жыл бұрын
Hi, the platforms are great. but I wont be using many....just a nice touch. They have had one a wee bit similar at my local station (about 50 yeards past the end of the platform near a signal) for about 20-25 years...well ever since I was a lad anyway! lol.

Great work Dave loving the S&T training centre (takes me back far-to-far to my trainee days). If you want some pics of standard location cases interiors let me know and I'll try and dig some out for you......but you do need to lose the H&S sticker on the inside - they didn't appear till the early 00's in even on the training rigs.

Wow!!!! The S&T depot is coming on great Dave. And as for that relay box interior..... Fan Flipping Tastic!!!!!! Just an idea for the Sub Station Dave, but what about adding one of the Transformers that Bachmann made a while back and were sold in a twin pack (Product Code 36-002). Still available on Ebay for a few quid. Although the idea was to use them as loads for bogie well wagons etc, perhaps you could fit one of them at the rear part under the sub station gantry to add something chunky, then fit the shapeway cabinets nearer the front part? An outstanding 1st layout update to kick off 2018.

Dave, I worked at Rutherglen Training Centre in the late 80's and if you are looking for a spot to fill.... We had a large skip, turned on its side, that we would use to train employees on fighting different kind of fires. It's different today but, in the late 80's there were various coloured fire extinguishers for different kind of fires. Blue, Red, Black, Green etc They would teach diesel fires and electrical fires all in this large skip on its side. I'm guessing you can imagine what the inside of this skip looked like. lol. Maybe a nice wee challenge for your weathering skills. :)

Dave, excellent work. Your attention to detail is astounding, who'd put guts inside a relay box. I've thoroughly enjoyed your layout and I'm glad I don't have your space or climatic conditions to put up with. When we left Scotland in 74 there were still green DMU's running between Ayr and Glasgow but I'm old enough to remember steam running around Ayr and out to Patna. Quick question your blue/grey HST 125 set what's the Hornby stock number. I've kinda grown to like them having watched yours running about.
@DeanPark6 жыл бұрын
hi....the HST is the 40th anniversary limited edition, running number 43002 and 43003. Hornby R3403. Space conditions? The climate is always a challenge in a loft layout, but with the insulation its fine. Cheers. Dave
@charlesemerson67636 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave. I'll keep an eye out for that set. Space in the loft, not a lot of room with the roof trusses in the way. I put a 10.5mx 6m shed up in the back yard . I insulated and lined the roof and walls and added air con. When I demolish the present US layout I'll get started on a1960's British layout. CYA Charles
@DeanPark6 жыл бұрын
Ah I see. Oh there's plenty of room really...they don't get in the way, I actually forget they are there (bang of head!!) at times. It is awkward when taking the backboards out as you have to carefully manoeuvre them between the trusses, but I am just lucky to have such a large space with a tall roof so I can stand up....some lofts are low and being over 6ft that would be difficult for me! Cheers. Dave

Hi Dave, your level of detail is extraordinary, the layout is superb, there must be many £s worth gone into all of this by now..... which only leaves one question..... what will you do with the layout if you have to move house? Rob
@DeanPark6 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, thanks for your kind words. My intention is to never move house! lol. We have a home fit for our needs which so happens to have a sizeable attic! lol. I am happy in the house as are my family. So fingers crossed I wont be starting the layout from scratch in another place! lol. I might do a bench style end to end layout in a spare room (perhaps for exhibiting) in the years ahead. But for now, I have a good few years left working my way around the 4 sides of this layout. Cheers. Dave
@tobyaman76446 жыл бұрын
DaveClass47 hi Dave, thanks for your reply, I'm so pleased you are happy and settled. I'm thinking of making a layout but the thought of moving it is always at the back of my mind. Being a very fine craftsman as you are perhaps you could make a short video explaining 1, how you might be able to move a layout such as yours if needed, perhaps it could be cut into sections?! And 2, how you might build a layout with the same level of finish/detail as yours with the intention of moving it one day from the start? It's only an idea but I'm sure it would be extremely helpful to many of us who are holding back on starting with the thought of moving it one day. Anyway, thanks for the videos, all the best, Rob

Hi, unless the base boards and structure attached to the top of the basebord fit down the loft hatch then there is no real way to remove the layout. Its there for good!

Great video as always, any tips on how to stop bleeding with the road marking stencils, I’ve tried different methods including chalkboard pens, sponging and stippling but they all bleed for me?
@DeanPark6 жыл бұрын
The best at to do markings with crisp edges is to use Tamiya Low tack masking tape. It will not lift the paint it sticks to. That will stop any bleeding if secured to the surface correctly. That is the best way to ensure neat edges. I use that technique and this time used the templates as well. Hope that helps. Dave
