@@mediocrates3416 we can certainly infer some things. For example, people spouting woo probably don't have a high regard for demonstrable evidence. If they spout woo and have a high regard for demonstrable evidence, they invariably justify it by misinterpreting science, and cite fringe papers. These people put their biases on a pedestal.

If we try to find answers to the mind-body problem from a starting point of particle physics, then we limit ourselves to what we know today. There is very little we know from scientific perspective about mind and consciousness. We need a more multi-disciplinary approach to pose hypotheses and only then verify them with the scientific method. Idealism gives a very interesting view by saying that the nature of reality is mental. Think about it - the whole universe and all you know about it, is in your mind. Reality is mind, more so than matter. Our culture and scientists have told us that mind is only inside our brain, however the reverse may be more logical - the world (incl. your body and brain) are in your mind. Everything is mind - this is a hypothesis that deserves further exploration.

i am neither religious nor spiritual BUT i have to say mind & consciousness are unique entities which do not have a biological explanation. in fact, studies into non-local consciousness, by the likes of dr pim van lommel and dr peter fenwick and dr sam parnia have found that there can be a separation of mind & body during moments of anxiety/stress/fear/mindfulness or indeed clinical death. it seems there is our physical self with waking consciousness and different altered states of consciousness which can be experienced independent of brain. evidence is growing for this. and we need to look at quantum mechanics to truly understand it.

Issue here is knowledge. How one get to know something - specifically in this case mind and body? Obvious that every living human being get to know something via information he/she received by one brain; meaning via testimonials - either by another human in words (human linguistics signals) or by universal physical material in recognizable physical signal forms(creative languages). On top of that on every objective physical informational signals to every normal human being there is subjective value(s)(another layer of information) about them. Now what are the elements that constitutes objective and subjective information / knowledge? Now if one believes in monism - either in physical or in metaphysical only - one scientific reality is standing on circular logic/reasoning basis!

If somebody has something to say, and know what it is, it may be expressed in just a few paragraphs. Or even just sentences. All of what could be called "humanity" were "animists" until animals and crops were domesticated and subsequent private property and religion. So what animists have always believed (and still do believe) and what scientists are just becoming aware of are essentially the same thing. All of reality is conscious.

Right, the comment section under these provides a new chat sessions for us. Here is my comment. The paradigm of these dark ages in which we live, astounds me. It always did, before I even found words for it. The intent to put together consciousness and matter, like quantum physics and relativism, is not impossible - it is funny. It doesn't mean that I don't see a physics theory which adjusts itself to reality in the most appropriate way, I hope that we come with better and better ways to explain reality. I think that academics make this unduly complicated. Even if thoughts, sensations and perceptions seem like different types of experience relating to mind, body and world, are they really? Isn’t that just a thought itself? There’s a sort of circular assumption in the belief that mind, world and body are different things and then categorising the experiences relating to them accordingly. We know from dreams that all aspects of the dream, including our thoughts in the dream, sensations of the dream body, and perceptions of the dream world, are all contained within the dream and therefore undoubtedly mental phenomena; thoughts. Something about the thoughts themselves tells us what sort of thoughts they are. There is no real difference external to the thoughts. They just point to objects which they assure us are real. This is why we are misled when we think that our ‘waking’ experience is any different. The experiences of thought, sensation and perception occur in exactly the same place where they occur in dreams and we believe the distinctions they claim to report. The idea of a mind-body division and the mind-body problem comes from believing our thoughts.

Could the mind-body relationship be analogous to earth’s core (being the corporeal) and its magnetic field (metaphysical?) Without the core the magnetic field would dissipate: i.e., Mars. Without the body, the mind would dissipate. The magnetic field gotta be considered metaphysical, right. Ultimately, wave probabilities. Clearly 2 distinct phenomena. Physical and meta (non) physical. @@mediocrates3416 I'm just throwing this out there, an idea of what chaos theory describes...from watching Sapolsky's lecture 21 "chaos and reductionism", complex systems have periodic and aperiodic elements. When a certain ratio is achieved, there is a projection of a 'higher state' I guess, something different emerging, the projection. I was thinking that a ground state is that repetitive periodic and the projection is somehow aperiodic, but to be aperiodic means to go nowhere very quickly, so i realize now the two elements are the base and the chaotic part, creative projection. In some human affairs the opposite is true and this is confusing. Take an audience clapping, a repetitive element that both claws back down and provides a base for that brilliance to emerge. A comic on stage makes an outrageous connection and the audience is titillated, and the more they are the more they need that repetitive calming action. Then there ground effects and enhanced ground effects, come to think of it. Is there a particular way it feels to “want” diarrhea? What happens when someone gets food sickness? What about the flu? When I was young I got very very high fevers and I had hallucinations. I still remember some of them. I remember how it felt when I had them. It was scary. I can described it as having fear but what do those words really mean? Words are inadequate. And FYI. All these things have been said, thought of, experienced and studied for thousands of years. Hinduism, Buddhism and other religions. Alan Watts, Suzuki and many others they got the ideas from along with their own experience. There are words for this out time and space stuff the mind exists. These words are thousands of years old. I’m very disappointed in the background research of these philosophers. Stanford has had lectures they post online about some of these things. Connecting the physical (biological) aspects of these ideas with an engineering aspect involving either CRISPR or bio engineering or just AI. Ever heard of Ghost in the Shell cartoon? anime goes into these ideas like Japanese anime. Many movies go into these ideas and books like Dune and Issac Asimov’s book which arguably started science fiction ‘Foundation’. “Science” isn’t the problem. It is scientists themselves who are the problem. The universe is. The universe isn’t governed by “the laws of science”. These are ideas projected onto the universe by humans and specifically by “scientists” who also don’t have a good grasp on what they are calling themselves this word and idea “science”. Outside of “science” the universe just is. Outside if the “mind body problem” there actually is no “problem”. The problem is in and of itself not a problem. It may be a riddle that is not meant to be solved or recreated or even in a recreation to be considered as the universe will go on despite any efforts achieved or not achieved by “science” and scientists. I know it is such a bummer for all the academics and AI people and all those claiming if we can just solve this problem we can “help” so many people. Ethics, morals, principles and values ALL stop “scientists” from truly trying to find an answer to this problem. You cannot ever “break the laws of science” because the “laws of science” don’t exist. Creating a way of measuring the universe and calling it science or whatever you want is an invention itself to have a reasonable measure of objectivity. That’s fair but it doesn’t change anything in the universe. Global warming won’t change the earth. The earth will go on until it has some cataclysm and that could be tomorrow of which tomorrow doesn’t exist for the earth it is just a word humans use to describe whatever it is we need it to describe for whatever reason or the earth could last 100 more years until a comet we never knew existed comes out of the somewhere and crashes into the planet and even then earth will still be bound to the sun until the sun runs out of fuel and grows bigger and incinerates the earth. I don’t see any of these academics actually testing these ideas and the limits of humans. 2000 years ago these limits were tested much more thoroughly without grocery stores or civil services to sit around and just think all day without having to survive with all this knowledge that still can’t answer these questions that are so allusive. I love it.

Too abstract and esoteric too soon. Just start with the primary cause of mind and mindfulness… the senses determine mind. Try to communicate with a born deaf and blind human being. You are not in the same universe. You cannot think the same… you are different

How to create awareness of information using material. You don't need to! Its already done. The real question is how is material made so there is information to observe. In the beginning there was only God! Mind! Then God made material! The information in God's mind produced material. Material is organized thoughts made substantial. Then God breathe life into material and material became alive, with action.

If you are looking for something beyond the physical. You will be really disappointed.
@hazatack

Because to see you must use your eyes, they are limited and bound by the physical. Hold on. What is conscious death scientifically? I have been told nothingness. How can this be valid scientifically. Nothingness is unfalsifiable. Determinism would derive an illusion of conscious therefore conscious death is also an illusion and not nothingness. If death is nothingness then is is not experienced and beyond awareness(knowing),in its limited definition, and incapable of been known. So therefore is the body not dying whilst consciousness is atleast in some kind of eternal stasis? If awareness is emergent of the physical and the material.

@@hazatack Why do humans think in such a human centric way ? We are just the last survivor in our branch. Nothing more. How long we can hold out is the only question at this point. A million yrs, a billion...still nothing to this reality. Why would our end be any different than the cat at my feet ? I don't see how the end of our blink would be any different. So at what point between a sponge and man did we pick up a soul ? Do all aware creatures have souls ? You certainly don't want to consider that as a possibility.

@@mediocrates3416 Yes, they are called eye floaters or vitreous gel, they move inside your eye, acting like prisms, bending or redirecting light, their amount increases with age that's why so see them so clearly, I'm young and almost don't see them at all, my father is 60 and sees them all the time also being near-sighted makes them more pronounced If you are sure things that you see aren't floaters then you might have a case of retinal detachment, cataract or retinopathy caused by diabetes

@@Serfer325 Nope. My wife work for an opthamologist for the last ten years, i know floaters and detatchment. The fronts of colour i'm talking about radiate inward or from an origin within my field of view outward, in a slow and repetative pattern that evolves gradually over time.

The soul can be material and eternal. The material parts are energetic: electric and chemical. They start at gastrulation and end at entropy. The other is only known by actually dying (and staying dead) or by acceptance that there are some who can be communicated with by the dead. Is this a pious hope or an experience based reason for ancestor worship? There is a part of the brain that seems to light up in scans of believers but mom-believers. We cannot know if this is response to spiritual stimuli or a brain quirk that makes people think that there is a God. Sacramental believers can point to personal evidence of joy from experiencing the divine, but there is no external proof of that. The logical proof is that human religion could not last without some direct experience of contact with a God. Getting baptized can be a data point, but not a scientific proof. The brain as information processing tool is mostly sensation management as a survival tool. Literally, it is being aware of surroundings. All animals have this. It does not prove different types of agency. Other animals, particularly cetaceans, probably have agency. Possibly some primates. And dogs. Practioners of astral travel point to list pets who are still present watching over them. My mother and sister claimed/claim communication ability. Delusion or ability? There is no way to demonstrate it because the other side cannot be measured. The type of energy is not physical, or not as yet detected with physical means. It should not be possible to do so. Ghostbusters is only a movie.

This approach and the pseudo solutions presented here are no way getting us closer to truth, I must say. And I truly regret to say this in this comment section, because I have the true feeling that the majority of those commenting are in a voyage so far from reality that they could never come closer to truth. A soul, is a life. A dead person, is a dead soul. Your spirit, is not something, alive, or dead. It is God's knowledge of you, wherever you are, alive or dead. If God is a part of your life, becoming a concious, immortal spirit, is your potential. It's the spirituality, of the religious, that causes, body, soul, spirit confusion. They have bibles, yet continue to believe the lie, that the soul is immortal. It is not. Even God, says so.

The mind is a brain, a part of this body, a decaying meatball, ending up as particles. There is an essence of life caged in this body that enable all functions of parts, the brain a thinking mind, eyes a reception for images, ears a reception for sound... If there is anything, it is just a projection of the mind through the processing of inputs in the brain. The question should be the essence of the essence, the rest are particles pulled together by this, for a purpose or random evolution?
