his drinking was also probably influenced by his age in the first few seasons hes only been legal for at most 5 years (yes i know he had his first drink before double digits and that he could forge fake ids) but you need to look old enough first cause no bartender will buy that you are 21 if you look 14.so maybe hes had the ability to buy liquor for 8 years hes got to sneak it buy john (who will most likely notice the signs that dean is drinking) and he needs to develop the need for it.yes he has felt the weight of the world for most of his life but that didn't come to a head with dean needing a crutch until he lost sammy and faced hell ( after this my headcanon is that he started to rely on alcohol to keep up with the emotional punches) and once he started he couldn't stop he would slow not drinking for the nines but still drinking (to the point it's basically water now.

This is really good! Depressing, but good. I've always felt that it's a shame Dean's relationship with alcohol hasn't been properly addressed on the show, so it's always nice to see it reflected in fanworks. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, I appreciate it. Yes, I totally agree, I really wish they would have addressed it more. Although, I do appreciate that it hasn't been forgotten. The number of clips I had to choose from were ridiculous and consistent through the seasons. Especially (sob) all the seasons after Dean returns from hell.

But at least the drinking has gotten slightly better after season 10, hasn't it? I mean, 12x06 was the first time Dean drank hard alcohol in season 12... Which is an improvement, since there were times when we'd see him drinking the hard stuff every episode.

I always believed that Dean was an alcoholic. It even reflects in the episode "what is and what should never be" even if Mary didn't die and they weren't hunters Dean would still be a heavy drinker because he doesn't deal with his pain or his emotions. He drowns them in booze. If the show ends before they really delve into Deans relationship to alcohol rather then just address it off handedly without exploring it like they've done In the past, then I will be slightly disappointed.

Most things dean struggles with gets barley any focus just little bits here and there because sam is the main focus as his first on the list. It sucks Dean is such an amazing character and jensen plays him so damn well it draws you in, wish like you more focus would be put in to his drinking habits and also his clear depression. Both are big problems in the world and wish the show would stop ignoring it as much as they seem to.

If anyone went through the things Dean has, all the weight on his shoulders, having to fix his brother's messes and save the kid, and the never ending disappointments the people around him and the universe dishes out to him, all the PTSD, all the loss, all the pain, the never ending battle to save people and have nothing to show for it except the world keeps turning. DEAN IS TIRED! HE WANTS TO DIE! HE DOESN'T SEE A WAY OUT! He has said all of these things. So his dependency on alcohol is understandable. It does not affect his ability to hunt, he is not an abusive drunk. He still does his duty with the single-minded drive that he's always possessed. So let's not act like Dean has to rise above it and meet our expectations. Not when you don't hold the other characters to high standards and allow them to continue to fuck up and fuck up some more. Dean is fine, his drinking problem isn't the problem, it's the depression.

A lot of people (including Jensen Ackles) were kind of expecting or hoping that Dean's alcoholism would be dealt with as (even a minor) plot point at some point but honestly I see it as more fitting this way; as the brunt of a joke. It's never truly dealt with but honestly for all those many out there who relate to him, tell me is it really taken seriously or is it a joke with a passing judgement tacked on? It's not just those around him either Dean himself, drinks to escape terror and depression but then acts like it's a fun joke and would surely refuse to hear any other side of it. It will always be a joke because it would just be too hard to deal with anything else and honestly as long you're not shooting heroin society will see it as fun and games and we the users will perpetuate that. So honestly I am glad it was never addressed because it makes it more real than addressing it ever could have.

I wonder why never we could see someone tell him stop that or distract him & make him feel better? I don't believe he's alcoholic. he's not. The part when Bobby looked at dean as he was taking a drink that was the same way my dad looked at me when he seen me drinking he was like son how many have you had I said a lot but I’m gonna keep drinking and he just couldn’t say or do anymore because he knows. Anyways I was in the army and had some fucked up experiences and I struggle with drinking and I have been even before joining the military and I’m 25 years old and Dean Winchester is the only character I can relate with because we both had messed up upbringings and had to raise our little brother but the difference is that my little brother died four years ago from susep which is sudden death in epilepsy and I blame myself for not being there to help like always was and no matter what anyone tells me I will always pin his death on me Idc even if he was right next to me and I couldn’t do anything but if I tried I wouldn’t have this self hate for myself but I do and it’s always gonna be there Dean Winchester is a character that I see as myself so many ways and honestly life sucks so much and when you grow up like we both have pain becomes the only thing that keeps you going and to keep having a reason to go on but great video and I hope it helps people such as myself who struggle with alcohol abuse I’m hoping that nobody ends up like me because i know where the road is heading and I’m fine with it even though it’s not fair for those I got left and for myself but this is my decision my choice to drink because even though this is the answer that is used but it helps me forget and not feel the pain and self hatred I have but stay strong to everyone else you got this and much love
