LED headlight swap Yamaha XJR 1300 or 1200

Just a heads up but i think you have the light upside down. The high beam should be on the bottom. Might not make a difference in projection if so then it doesn't matter.

I bought one of these El Cheapo brand lights from fleabay, to fit to my 1955 Ariel 500, but the daytime halo light is red, possibly illegal in every country including the one it was made in. However, it was cheap, looks very trick, and drains no amps from my pathetic Lucas Dynamo, which is very handy because it hasn't got any, and makes car drivers notice it. I dont have a clue how well it lights up the road though, because it's been too cold at night for the past couple of months. Maybe tonight 👍

Yes mine was wired to run Amber all the time with the main lights when needed. It did look nice compared to the old glass and bulb unit. Yes hopefully this warmer "winter" weather will stay. Good luck !

Hello, I haven't posted one, I don't think I filmed it. To be honest, I think the engine just looked a bit tired so I thoroughly cleaned, removing all the oil and gunk from the top of the cam cover. Taped up around the plugs and then masked up with paper and tape, and avoided a day with any wind. Then I sprayed with Satin black paint. Pretty much the same as the VN800 engine. ( CHECK OUT that video, Engine respray) I will eventually have to do similar with the 900 custom. Scuff up with fine wire wool, or lightly sand, thoroughly clean, mask up, then paint using specific engine paint (as before) then sand or wire wool off fin faces. Are you needing to do similar then on your own project, Stuart ?

I have a xsr 900 and I bought the same led light as you. Do you have some advices how to connect the wiring ? I have no idea how to connect it 🤦🏻

I assume you XSR does not have the same plug in connections that the LED light offers up to ? You would need to show me exactly what it looks like, and show me the light wire connectors too. Alternatively WhatsApp vid it and send to 07702 906145, hopefully I can help ? Do you have a simple electrical voltage tester, with positive and negative probe.

@@DeanAllen hey mate Rob from Australia here, I purchased a 7” LED for my XJR1300 and it does not even come close to fitting, it is way too small although the standard shroud etc looks exactly the same. What year is your bike mate? Mine is a 2011 not sure if the headlight size was larger for that year but… strange.

Hello Ordered via Ebay £18.99, they come out of China, many different sellers of the same light. So far it seems good value. I will try and get part II on KZbin this weekend of just how easy it was to fit. Atleast on the XJR1200 using its existing chrome bezel and clips.

Hello They changed the MOT laws this year in fact, re. LED lighting, and as along as it meets the usual stuff like alignment of beam (height etc. ) and as long as it operates as per your switch gear, I.E if you have day light, normal and high beam on switches your lights must operate the same. So as per 2nd vid, part II the running light (outer halo) plugs directly into where a side entry daylight running (parking light on some bikes) bulb wires and connects. The other main light and high beam, just plugs directly ( the three pin or spade, connection) it was very easy, hardest bit was the getting spring clips out, you have to bend up tabs with the flat of a screw driver. Good luck my friend, oh and stay tuned to Deano's Garage if you need to know how to do the valve clearances, I learnt a few things the hard way there, but then thats why I'm here !

This is exactly what I wanted to do on mine then I was told that it would fail the MOT if I did it god knows why that would be .Does your run straight of the standard socket and did you wire the day light ring by connecting it to the dip light wire as I have seen this done . So glad you have put this on and I am now a subscriber cheers . : )

I think that is because most of these headlights do not have the EEC certification. But I think it really depends where you go. I doubt they will look at it if the headlight works well.

Worth double checking. I think they changed the MOT requirements and then found they had a lot of complaints so allowed them again. Still not allowed to replace normal for HID on cars though I think.
