There is a word that often appears in anime called "Tsundere". It is a contraction of two Japanese words. One is "Tsuntsun", which means to have a cold attitude towards the other person. The other is "Dereru", which means to be spoiled towards the other person. In other words, the word "Tsundere" means the following. It means that even if you are usually unfriendly, you will suddenly become spoiled towards the other person, including in terms of personality. Rudy thinks that if he saves Eris here, Eris will open up to him. (Yes, it's like setting a flag in a game.) If I don't do that, I won't get "Dere" I'm not very good at English, so I hope this is clear to you.

Just a bit of info, Eris and Rudeus are VERY distant cousins of the Greyrat family to the point where they're barely related since they are from a different family branch. Iirc there are at least 3 different family branches of the Greyrats, which, Eris's family are Boreas. Rudeus is of the Notos family.

I actually got confused about that situation too.... hmm

Yeah, I see a lot of people act like they're first cousins when they're probably so distantly related to the point that no one would even consider it weird in our world. People get stuck on the last name while it's more of a status indicator. Even if I were to be wrong on this, them being second cousins would have been seen as quite normal for most of the history of our world, and it still would be considered normal in a lot of places in the world. That's still barely related genetically.

The thing about Paul, is that in this world polygamy is sort of the norm, especially among nobility (which the Grayrats are part of). Zenith is from a religious country that is monogamous. Zenith knew that Paul was a womanizer that would never be faithful. She slept with him and was going to use him sleeping with someone else as a way to get over him. She got pregnant from that one time, and Paul said he'd be faithful, so he quit adventuring, got a job and home so he could raise his family. In this world they think any sex at all is bad when pregnant, and it was during the time that Paul was having to hold off that Lilia took her chance. So while Paul is scum, it's not quite as bad all things considered. They do a great job packing a lot of info into the show, so definitely worth reading along with the light novel to get the extra details that sadly didn't make it into the show. EDIT: Also they're branch families, so they're not super closely related.

As you've noticed, this world is a bit different when it comes to what kind of romantic relationships are acceptable. Although Paul got in big trouble for impregnating Lilia, it isn't uncommon to see polygamous marriages, which I guess is why he tells Rudeus that Ghislaine is "his". It is also totally acceptable to marry someone closely related to you, which is why Paul's note said "the girl is fair game" even though she is Rudeus' second cousin and Philip also considered it a possiblity that Rudeus might seduce Eris.
@4catsarmy1492 ай бұрын
I see you reference Rudy a few times since you started Mushoku Tensei as a 40 yo stuck in a kid’s body. I think you have to remove the western pre-conceived notion and see it as reincarnation. In eastern culture where some religions believe in reincarnation, the soul is reborn in as a different person. So the only difference here is the reincarnated retained memories from his previous life (by design as you will see in later episodes, as he was isekai intentionally). In general for those in eastern culture where the person is reincarnated, people view them as the age on face value and not the age of soul from the previous life. Think of it as a 7 yo who was born with the memories of a 40yo instead of 40yo stuck in 7yo body. The same applies to Oshi No Ko culturally.

2:44 I mean, Paul isn't wrong in his assessment of Rudy and Sylphie's relationship. Rudy really was becoming dependent on her, and he was planning to train her into his perfect wife. He's going about it in the worst possible way, but he is trying to help. 10:11 He said "money can't by dere". Dere is a Japanese word that basically means lovestruck and is part of a series of stock personality types that are all "something+dere", with Eris being an example of a tsundere, the original dere archetype, where a character starts off being cold (and often violent) towards someone, and then warms up to them over time.
@aimmy792 ай бұрын
The '-dere' suffix in Japanese manga and anime character types refers to a character's emotional disposition or personality traits. Specifically: Tsundere refers to a character who is initially cold, hostile, or irritable towards another character, but who gradually becomes caring, affectionate, and doting as the story progresses. Yandere refers to a character who is outwardly loving and gentle, but has an obsessive, violent, or mentally unstable side that emerges, often in a jealous or possessive manner. The '-dere' suffix comes from the Japanese word 'deredere', which means to be in a lovestruck, affectionate, or smitten state. So the 'dere' part indicates a character's underlying softer, more emotionally invested nature, even if it is not always outwardly displayed. This contrasts with their initial aloof or aggressive exterior, which is the source of the 'tsun' or 'yan' prefix.

so yeah, Rudeus was a 34 years old man when he died and reincarnated, so now that he is 7 in this world he must search a sweet 40+ years old milf to hang out and date whit him right? that would be the best... Sarcasm apart, his life was cut and broken because of the bullying at age of 14 and after that he just became a shut in (hikikomori) for 20 years, so he is not actually a mature person that would act like a real 34 year old functional adult. So please dude, just forget about that part, just take it in mind as extra experience, dont forget he is rotten because the internet and porn he just went into all that time, but also dont forget he is starting a new life and cant come back to an old self, he is a new person and needs to grow and aknowledge himself too as who he is now and the new experiences in this world that is totally different from the previous one

Eris is a TsunDERE; so he was saying money cannot buy Dere... like money can't buy love sort of thing. Rudy is still a work in progress. One helpful bit of advice when watching the show is to abandon the idea that Rudeus is just a meatsuit for who he was before. Rudeus is the character in his entirety now. He has the memories and thought patterns from when his previous self died, but he can't switch back and forth between Rudeus and who he was before. On with the lore dump: In the book Paul's letter had a few more things in it that pissed off Ghislaine. It started with "My dear son Rudeus, by the time you're reading this letter, I'll have passed away." just because Paul had wanted to write something like that. Ghislaine took it seriously, as well as Paul writing how her brain had mutated into a third bicep. Eris is Rudeus' second cousin. In noble circles that's seen as fine. And the local culture doesn't have the same kind of consanguinity taboo as we do. Rudeus might be the only one, but he's noted how close family doesn't excite him at all. One of a few details not really noted with the kidnapping is that Rudeus is generally more valuable than Eris in terms of blood. Rudeus' grandfather was a lord, with him being the firstborn of said lord's firstborn. Eris is one of the younger children of a younger son of another province's lord. While neither are really considered for succession (Paul having been struck off the rolls), Rudeus has a stronger blood claim to his house than Eris does. The one who hired Eris' kidnapping simply wants her for pleasure, while the kidnappers are looking at which of their captives would be more valuable to their houses. Another is that the long-haired kidnapper is Advanced in North God Style, same rank as Paul. Ghislaine was impressed at how long Rudeus lasted against him at the engagement range of the alley. A change from the book was that instead of inflicting blunt force trauma to the guy holding Eris, Rudeus cut off his arm. The move Ghislaine demonstrated was the Longsword of Light, the signature technique of the Sword God Style. There is no such thing as dodging it, and deflecting or blocking it is a big ask. Learning it marks a swordsman as a Sword Saint, which earns them the right to wear that leather jacket. Sword Kings, Sword Emperors and the Sword God all strive to execute that move faster and stronger. It's said to exceed the speed of light when executed perfectly. Where mages use magic, swordsmen use their mana for techniques.

getting married to you cousin is not seen as weird in japan, it's common
@mezacharia2 ай бұрын
Before you get all caught up with the cousins-marrying-each-other hype. This is a different world with different customs/beliefs. Also, even in our "western" world, look up Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. This is an anime about a fictional world that has similarities to the middle ages Europe, but written by a Japanese person. It would be unfair to make judgements on the characters of this world based upon your cultural, contemporary, westernized, upbringing just as much as you being judged by a Hindu Indian person for eating beef.

So I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and say thank you for your insight. But marrying family members will always bug me and genetically it never really works out well now does it?
@mezacharia2 ай бұрын
@@DeanBarryStuff Not out of disrespect, but there's a lot negative reactions to Mushoku Tensei because it doesn't fit into their "sense of right & wrong". Paul's sleeping with Lilia is one of them. The inference of Rudy & Eris in this last episode is another. There are MANY more to come. I think the Game of Thrones was worse, and I needed to separate my "morals" from the show to watch & enjoy it (though I was one of those disappointed with the ending). MT also pushes people with the way it crosses over lines of "morals". So while I know you have already heard that people have been upset with this series, there's a lot more to come. [side note: I don't think the world of MT is scientifically advanced enough to understand genetics... 😝 ]

I understand your argument. It’s documented in world history. It’s a thing that happens in other cultures. Genetics aside, and I know this is fiction, it’ll always be icky to me. Not from any moral high ground, but due to the fact that it’s FAMILY. I love the show. I’ve even started buying the light novel. I want to explore this world to its deepest core. But please, my problem with incest, Game Of Thrones and all, forever will be disturbing to me. This is my reaction. This is my thoughts and feels. I won’t be pulled up on them or told I’m wrong. If you think it’s cool or feel the need to justify it, sweet, you do you. We’ll never agree.
