This is where they always loose me. I can actually understand why folks believe in creationism. Personally, I don't and am happy trying to understand the scientific explanations. But a person can explain to me that they believe life must have been created, then fine, but how do you make the leap out of the other thousands of Gods, that it has to be the Christian one. Besides all the obvious stuff wriiten into the bible that's clearly about control, and the impact on the colored community, there is nothing there that gives any legitimate explanation about how and why things are created. There's a little bit of mumbo jumbo in Genesis where somehow a man can be created from dust, but for some reason you gotta have his rib to create a woman, and by the time Jesus comes along, he's actually gotta impregnate a human woman to make that whole thing happen. But this is your Bob the builder for the entire universe? You know there might be other Gods out there, and some of them might have issues with things like slavery, but you go ahead and accept that default American position that was shoved down your ancestor's throats as they were being beaten, raped, and worked to death.

It's interesting to me that every time someone describes a miracle in their life, it's always something that while unlikely, is completely possible, and is very emotionally resonant with them. It's never just something small, or something actually not physically possible. Also, in terms of the sun and earth being perfect for us and for life, I'd direct you to the puddle analogy: “If you imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, 'This is an interesting world I find myself in - an interesting hole I find myself in - fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!" and on top of that, earth and the universe are basically trying to kill us constantly.
@somersetcace13 жыл бұрын
You went through that whole diatribe on prayer before hearing the last line of what he said and then completely missed it. Simply go straight to his will, then you don't need to pray. It was a solid point. Doesn't matter if you pray with an honest heart or only pray for good things. I mean, think of all the prayers that have been offered for world peace? You think those prayers had selfish motive? Yet, there is no world peace. So it's a waste of a prayer. Actually, the truth is: Prayer isn't for gods, it's for people. You pray, because it make you feel better and that's fine, but that's all it is.

I enjoy what these guys do, and I really like his father, seems like a cool and funny guy. But before saying things like "what created the sun? ah yes, some big boom" I'd suggest to be more humble and accept that he doesn't have a full grasp of what scientists actually say. And also realise that the God people use to solve some questions (like the origin of the universe) actually raises more questions than it answers, so it's hardly an explanation at all. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but just be aware that we you make uninformed opinions about the Big Bang you sound just as somebody who makes an uninformed opinion about christianity. Also lets not forget that this is a stand up show, it's comedy. Sure, he uses a serious topic but he's not engaging in a formal debate about religion or christianity. But as an interesting side note, why an all powerful being would even care about what a human being says about him? Is God really all that sensitive about it? The fact that you have to pray for someone because you fear of what God will do to him just because he's making fun of Him is quite telling of the kind of God you believe in.

(Part 2/2) Dad: "Good comedian. Bad subject." No, it's actually a good subject. People like you are the reason it's a good subject. You choose to believe in something no matter what and with no good reason to, in spite of all the reasons not to believe. He is here to point out what needs to be pointed out. What you keep a blind eye to and refuse to think about. Rather than worry for him and claim it's a bad subject, you ought to be listening to his words and thinking about them. Dad: "God's will is for us to be healthy, for us to be okay, for us to be prosperous." Then why aren't we? This god can do anything he wants. What's stopping this from happening? Some silly idea that we're not worthy of it? Then he doesn't want that for us, does he? Dad: "God honors prayers that comes from the heart... that comes from need." Again, tell that to the crying loved ones who have lost people, especially lost children. Hate to tell you, but the world doesn't work that way. Any prayer, no matter how desperate, no matter how heart-felt, has as much chance of being granted as it has of happening without a prayer being made, and without a god existing at all. This has actually been proven. You are focused, as most religious people are, on the times you prayed and got the thing you wanted, or something close enough to consider it getting what you wanted, ignoring all of the times this didn't happen. Confirmation bias. Or I suppose all those people who prayed not to die on a crashing air plane who then died were not putting enough heart into it? What you said here is actually kind of insulting to lots of people, people starving on the street, dying of cancer, or burying their child. It's not inspirational like you think it is. While we're on the subject of being insensitive, look at you suggesting that George should be tortured for what you recognize as just comedy. Who is George hurting here? And don't even deny it, because if you were really against the idea of him deserving punishment for what he said here, then you wouldn't follow a god who would be petty enough to enact any kind of revenge on him for his opinions. Dad: "He knows there's a god." NO! This, more than any other thing you've said, has caused me to lose a lot of respect for you. YOU believe there's a god, that doesn't mean that everyone else thinks the same way that you do and is just in denial. George does not believe in a god and you should be able to accept that. The truth is, YOU need him to believe because you can't accept that he doesn't. He said for god to strike the audience because it is funny, not because he was afraid. Your son is a lot more respectful than you are. Dad: "There's got to be a god." No, there doesn't. Prove that there has to be a god. All I'm seeing is you needing there to be a god. Just because you want it, just because you need it, that doesn't make it true. Prove it if you know it. Dad: "An actual miracle happened in my life." So god favors you over children who die of cancer? Good to know. Look, you got lucky that your daughter was not still born, and that's a great thing, but that's not proof of god or a miracle. More likely, the doctors just messed up and your daughter was fine. If she was dead for the whole pregnancy, then she would be brain dead. Period. But please, let's run through this scenario. Your god loves you, right? Why the hell would he make your daughter be dead right up till the point where she is born? Why would he give you all that stress and grief? What kind of a sadistic all-powerful being would do that? For what reason? Did you do something bad? Well, if you did, why punish your daughter and everyone else? You either have a sadistic god on your hands or you have the doctors made a mistake, and there's far more evidence of doctors making mistakes than there is of gods. And again, your miracle doesn't explain all of the people it didn't happen to. What makes you more special than them? Can you please open your eyes and see how full of shit you are? Believe in a god all you like, but be smarter about it and more respectful to the others around you for fuck sake. Unless your dad gets a lot smarter and more respectful, I'd rather not see more videos with him. So far I haven't seen you show as little respect for other's as your dad has. (End)

I know George was as scared of hell as I am - not one iota. It is only scary to those who grew up being indoctrinated with the fear of hell. The incredulous look on pops face tells me he hasn't often been confronted by this kind or irreverence before. Church has told him to distrust the big bang (that wasn't an explosion), but he hasn't really seen his faith through other eyes than those with religiously tinted glasses. It's funny how some people can't even conceive that others don't believe in God. I can't really fathom how anyone CAN believe in God, well not in the God of the Bible anyway, some vague theism if you need to think there is someone controlling things maybe but an omnipotent and benevolent God just isn't compatible with the world we inhabit.

I think the son was laughing a little too hard at times for his dad. Keep watching videos like this and you'll see the light, unfortunately, I doubt there is any hope for your dad.

13:43 you are completely wrong and lose the argument here. Replay it and apply it to any kind of logic or reason. I believe you are a wonderful person and would love to have a few beers with your family and mine. May it happen. I ain’t praying to your god for it to happen. WTF for?

It's so sad to see a grown man be so ignorant and brainwashed. And he's teaching his children to be the same way. He's got absolutely no scientific knowledge whatsoever. He's so brainwashed by religion, he can't even believe that someone might not believe in god, saying that he knows George Carlin believed in god when GC clearly stated many times that he didn't. Education is so important. It's the only thing that can break this cycle.

if his will for us to be ok why then is there so much death and pain

"Free will"? So, you're telling us that it's ok for this so-called "god" to give us "free will"? And isn't responsible for its creation? If there is a so-called god. In other words, Christians have referred to this "god” as the father of all creation. They are also saying that this thing is of love. I beg to differ. Any decent and loving parent or parents would be responsible and keep what they have created in check and disciplined-never giving too much free will to their creation so that they don’t get out of control and start doing terrible things. Only an irresponsible or hateful parent or parents would give too much "free will" and not care to apply order or discipline to their creation- allowing them and everything else to get out of control. Now that sounds very much like this fictional god that Christians believe in. No thanks! I’d rather believe in my mother first, who has always been there and cared for me and my other siblings through thick and thin-by herself! Than to believe in some nonsense, fiction, unworthy god.

The Sun formed when a cloud of hydrogen collapsed due to Gravity. As it collapsed it started to heat up. When the heat and density reached a certain point the conditions become right to form hydrogen into Helium in a process known as nuclear fusion. That is it how the the Sun formed.

I've never understood the argument that everything must've been made by God, purely because it exists. By this logic, something or someone must've made God. Then in turn something or someone must've then made the thing that made God and so forth, with infinite recurrence. I wouldn't say I'm an atheist, but I'm definitely agnostic. Surely keeping an open mind is the best way to approach it?

The best routine I've seen on religion was by Eddie Griffin in his comedy special _Undeniable._ I was rolling.

The sun didn't build the sun gravity caused the sun to form. If your question is who made the sun I will ask you who made your god?
