I have an older Hitachi 110 plane that cuts out while running. I'm taking it apart this weekend after watching this. Cheers.

Thanks for showing how to correctly install new bearings using the deep sockets. So many tubers bash all over the bearing with a hammer. Very cringe.

I've used a bench vise sometimes instead of a press if the parts aren't too bid or vise is too small. A very large C clamp too will work in a pinch sometimes. A press is definitely preferable.

very good, but would you consider changing the fuse in the new plug top from 13amp to suit the power rating of the tool?

Maybe I missed it, didn't see any earth wire in the mains cable. And given the exposed metal and contact with armature bearings, wouldn't an earth be mandatory ?

Hitachi created a nicely serviceable design. But then you do make it all look easy. I'm sure to make a mess of it and take much longer.

Another brilliant video Dean. Quick question i have is what do you think of the Bosch GHO 26-82D planer. Mine has had issues with sticking brushes due to them being swollen. Its the second set to have done it as well. Not sure what would have caused that as the machine is used lightly and brushes were both fresh
@deandohertygreaser2 ай бұрын
Not sure, could be something to do with where it's stored

sand the sides down so they wont stick in thier cages.
@Richie_D19822 ай бұрын
@BertGraef thank you. I just couldn't believe it happened to brand new brushes only been in there about 2 weeks. I didn't think to do that because they were sliding fine to start with.

1st off.... when you spun that pully, connected to the blade drum (6:15), I couldn't help the very nervous laugh that came out 😅 The other thing is that I was just wondering if there was space in that hight nob to switch the nut for a lock nut? I'm definitely not thinking that you could do that instead of changing the bearings, I was just wondering if it's something you could do if you always use the same setting and don't want it moving if you catch it on something like an electric cable that has enough friction to move the nob? 🤔
@deandohertygreaser2 ай бұрын
you probably could, but it might make it very hard to adjust and would probably cause the knob to brake with the extra force

Are Metabo and HiKOKI the same company? Parent Company Ownership: Metabo and HiKOKI are indeed owned by the same parent company, Koki Holdings Co., Ltd. This conglomerate also owns other brands such as Metabo HPT, CARAT, and Sankyo Diamond.

Dean ,I managed to pick up a brand new old stock Dewalt planer for cheap these things are still £450.00 new, only problem is its 240volt, how can I change it to 110v, is it just the armature or also the field??
@deandohertygreaser2 ай бұрын
You would have to change the armature and field.

Why not just change the plug to a 240V and 20 amp outlet. If you don't have a 240V outlet it's a simple wiring job.
