taking off the handle allows you to sand to inside corners of a box without hitting the sides. Good for refinishing furniture. Orbital sanders can never get near the inside corners.

Makita seems to have diverse manufacturing. I have an HR2470 SDS Drill that is Made in Romania, Ive seen some of their tools Made in USA or UK aswell. China is most of the cheaper cordless tools. The more expensive and higher quality specialty tools are Made in Japan.

Will the battery be vulnerable to wear in the terminals as you will tend to hold the battery during operation? Just a thought? Looks easy to replace parts

its hard to ware out makita battery terminals and housings. it has the normal dampers and metal plates to help stop it wearing out. cannot see wearing it out to easy. but a finish sander like these you tend to hold the handle and knob at the front to put more weight down on it.
