This one was a particularly momentous day, a small mental barrier overcome. A lot has changed in my life since 2019, makes it hard to watch these videos sadly but it doesn't take away from how great the trip was. Lots of new Pennine Way memories have been made since and lots more to come with my new job

I discovered your excellent videos when having a nostalgic wallow recalling my own trip up the Pennine Way - it looks from the dates of your postings that you were a couple of weeks behind us. This particular video really chimed, as I too was trying to lay he ghost of previous PW disasters and failures. I left it a bit later than you as I’d failed over forty years previously. We made it! I don’t do You Tube pieces but I printed up my journals into a small memoir called ‘Losing The Monkey’ because, in part at least, it was about shaking the monkey of those previous failures off my back! And I’d have something for posterity to say “oh he did it, he wasn’t a complete klutz after all!” Looking forward to watching you complete the trail. ‘Full Charlie Boorman’ is a real thing, hopefully avoided!

Thanks for watching Ian, I often look back at the videos to remind me of what a great adventure it was. We were back in Hawes and camped at Hardraw this weekend. We ran from Horton in Ribblesdale via Pen-y-ghent back to Hardraw. I have another big challenge coming up in a week or so, I know I have the fitness but it will be the mental side if the weather turns that will be the real test. Hopefully there will be no 'Charley Boorman' moments 🤣🤣 Thanks again for watching and commenting

Upper Wensleydale is fantastic, camped at nearby Bainbridge Ings many times. I was chuffed to bits when you went beyond Thwaite (I need to explore Swaledale and visit the farm of The Yorkshire Shepherdess). Sometimes I need a motivational tune to get me through a particularly difficult part of a long walk and find that music certainly helps . The soundtrack from "Rob Roy" by Capercaillie (Celtic band),though mellow, fits the bill for me. I greatly admire your determination to "push on" and succeed alone, especially after the last time, because when you're 6 years older it would be much easier to "throw in the towel". It looked like 17 miles of pure bliss to me.

It’s been my lifelong dream to do the whole pennine way with my dad but he passed away eighteen months ago , so I decided to take my son and do the south part , we would of loved to of camped it but under current rules we have stuck to day tripping it . South Pennines finished tomorrow but we will finish it all when campsites reopen . Big thx to my wife the support team tho for dropping and picking up etc and big thx to you Dean your videos helped us through the way 👍🏻✌🏻

More excellent viewing from an excess of fresh air around 6 minutes to reflections on the past. Success and failure are rarely black and white. None of us stands a chance when the natural world decides to be aggressive so stopping because of adverse weather or sheer exhaustion is probably the sensible thing to do even if you do beat yourself up afterwards. Seems to be an increasing interest in the relationship between mental health and the natural world. Glad you touched upon it. And the music from 'Cal' by Mark Knopfler and the theme from 'Texas' by Ry Cooder.

Impossible for me to pick a top 5 movie soundtracks, Ennio Morricone is a genius and i love everything from a fist full of dollars, a few dollars more, the good the bad and the ugly through to the mission. Then you have the Bond films, The Italian Job, Purple Rain, Quadrophenia, Bohemian Rhapsody, Trainspotting and the Godfather. Probably the one i listen to the most would be Pulp Fiction, closely followed by Snatch. Great subject to ponder on a walk!

Don't know about top 3 OST's, Just so many, but a song thats been used in lots of films is 'Ends of the Earth' by Lord Huron. Perfect song for a long trek like this. Lyrics: Oh, there's a river that winds on forever I'm gonna see where it leads Oh, there's a mountain that no man has mounted I'm gonna stand on the peakOut there's a land that time don't command Wanna be the first to arrive No time for ponderin' why I'm-a wanderin' Not while we're both still aliveTo the ends of the earth, would you follow me There's a world that was meant for our eyes to see To the ends of the earth, would you follow me If you will have a say my goodbyes to meOh, there's an island where all things are silent I'm gonna whistle a tune Oh, there's a desert that size can't be measured I'm gonna count all the dunesOut there's a a world that calls for me, girl Headin' out into the unknown Well if there are strangers, and all kinds of danger Please don't say I'm going aloneTo the ends of the earth, would you follow me There's a world that was meant for our eyes to see To the ends of the earth, would you follow me Well if you want, I will say my goodbyes to meI was a-ready to die for you, baby Doesn't mean I'm ready to stay What good is livin' a life you've been given If all you do is stand in one placeI'm on a river that winds on forever Follow 'til I get where I'm goin' Maybe I'm headin' to die but I'm still gonna try I guess I'm goin' alone

Sorry, meant to congratulate you for passing the point you couldn't get beyond back in '13... My youngest daughter and her husband have been to see Hans Zimmer, I think it's three times now, maybe two, and they already have their tickets for the next one. She also loves to write music. Her husband bought her Cebalius (is that how it's spelt?) software for Xmas last year. What a lucky girl she is. As is her husband, a lucky boy. So nice to see couples still loving after many years of being together eh ❤ Wishing you the same for you and your lovely partner Lisa. Enjoy your walk today. It's cold now but apparently it's gonna warm up later. Laterz :)

Top 3: - Lord of the Rings (don't really care which one, but I guess Fellowship of the Ring, because it introduces you to that iconic theme) - The Breakfast Club - Birds of Prey I'm not a huge music buff or anything, so these are just a few that have stuck with me, I'm not going to die on a hill defending them against other soundtracks. Jurassic Park should also get an honorable mention, I think. I picked Birds of Prey over Jurassic Park because I listen to the BoP soundtrack regularly, but in terms of iconicness (that's not a word), Jurassic Park wins. Anyway, really loving this series! I already wanted to walk the Pennine Way, but now I'm even more sure ☺️
