This one is still avilable here in Sweden. I just ordered my second bottle (quite a big fan of Deanston), the fixed price here is sek699 (€60). To me that's a good price, I mean, a15yo, high quality whisky, almost a bang for the buck whisky. If one compere it with the 12yo at sek565 (€49), to me both of them have a fair price tag, in todays currency.

I'm not sure how important the 'organic' label is, but Deanston's dedication to a craft approach certainly deserves to be lauded. Would def. be on my bucket list of distillery tours if I ever were to visit Scotland, considering the location and the converted cotton mill etc. Like you I like the 12' but don't love it. Have you tried the 18? I can pick it up right now for $120 CAD wondering if I should give it a try...cheers!

Same. Craft presentation is much more important than organic. I think it's a nice option to have, but I'd be lying if I said I cared that much. I have tried the 18, but it was the older bottling with the brown label. Like the 12, I liked it but I didn't love it. I'm not sure if the new one has a different formula or it's any better. I'd buy the 18 again on sale, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Nice dram.

I really love Deanston distillery, absolutely agree with your notes, this whiskey needs time to open up. I love spirit driven whiskeys, for a pricing US $45 to $50. It's a steal. But I can see how a lot of people might not like it and if they are wine finish whiskey fans I do not see them picking the second bottle up.

I had a glass or two left of my GlenFarclas 21 one day one year, and finding the D15 a * bit * lacking in personality, I decided to throw about 2/3rds of it into my Farclas bottle. The rest went into my one third full bottle of Ledaig 18. Worked wonderfully, both of those. The 'Farc especially, there was in fact more classic GlenFarclas character in it than in the original, both on the nose and on the palate, even with so little of it left. Huge big apples, especially. I was quite an experience. Perfect universal refill bottle, the Deanston 15 Organic is. At least was for me when you could get it for less than the GF21 and the LD18.

I can imagine this would fit nicely with other whiskies. It's got a very friendly and easy character that wouldn't overwhelm or clash with other things. Cool idea. Sadly, I finished my bottle. The farclas blend sounds good! 🥃 🥃

I got one bottle standing, it's from March 2018. My got it for me this spring at the Bordershop in Puttgarten, Germany. She did pay around 57euro, quite a good price from my point of view. Never yet been disapointed by Deanston so I'm looking forward to crack this one open in time. Cheers

Nice review, Geoff. Haven't had this one. Saw it online for roughly 76 euro and may pull the trigger😀 The only Deanston I have tasted is the 12 yo. Like it so much that I bought a backup bottle on special sale. Deanston seem to produce fairly robust spirit and their core-range is almost exclusively matured in ex-bourbon casks with occasional virgin oak here and there. The result is characterfull and intense whisky which is not that easily accessible. The best experience with the 12 yo I get when I haven't eaten anything for several hours before tasting and haven't had anything sweet during the day. Cheers😀

Yeah I mention the "Deanston magic" in this review. Their whisky is always quite robust and characterful. Most of their regular core range is ex-bourbon matured, and all of it is high-quality. They also have some wonderful limited edition cask strength expressions where they dabble with sherry and wine finishes. All excellent stuff, and quite affordable in most markets.

@@Gwhisky All Distel whiskies are pretty solid. Affordable too. All of the three: Bunnahabhain, Tobermory and Ledaig, have at least one core expression that is very high in price/quality ratio. There are rumors that Heineken is making the moves to buy Distel distilleries. Maybe it is wise to tuck some bottles in before the new owner decides to break into new markets with "smoother" product.

Found a few bottles at the Atlanta airport for $80 US, but since I am flying from Canada to the USA for work, I can't "export" it. Hopefully can pick up a bottle or 2 on my way home to Canada. As always, great review and looking forward to giving Deanston a try.

Not a bad price. Hope you can snag one on your way back. Good stuff! 🥃

Thanks for the review, mate! It is 17 900 rubles or 177.5 GBP in Russia...way too overpriced to pull the trigger....

I just picked this bottle up. The price just dropped $25 where I live so I picked one up. I definitely would choose organic if given the option.

Great! The price seems to bounce around a lot for this bottle here as well. Glad you got it on sale!

Nice review. I think the only organic whisky that I can remember trying is Bruichladdich. which is a very good whisky (enough for me to get a second bottle), but I don't think there's anything there in the flavours that I can attribute to being organic so it's not something I look for in a whisky. However with wine I've had only good experiences with organic wines so far, and it hasn't incurred any price penalty that I've noticed, so now that's something I do support with my dollars.
@Gwhisky3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't remember the Benromach Organic costing anymore. Deanston 15 seems to be the exception and not the rule. But yeah... organic sounds nice but how would we even notice the difference?

Would you say investing in a 2020 Deanston Whiskey cask is a good investment?

OK, I'm a year late in viewing this video. This Deanston has still not been reviewed by so many people. Your comment that it seems to be chameleon (different flavors on different days) is something I found with the last bottle of the Deanston 12 that I drank, which was disappointing. The 15 is currently around $80 in Japan -- I'm on the fence about buying this one as the Benromach NAS organic is, for my palate, pretty impressive.
@Gwhisky2 жыл бұрын
It's worth a shot, I do think it's one of the better Deanstons. Much better than the 12 imo, but to be honest you're probably better off with that Benromach. Cheers!

@@Gwhisky It is reasonably priced, so I'll pick one up for research purposes. Thanks Geoff!

I am still trying to find Deanston 12 year old. I was not able to locate it in San Diego , nor vegas during my TDY’s :( But the word “organic” is a turn off. Lol
@Gwhisky3 жыл бұрын
Lol so you're basically doing a whisky tour of the southwest looking for bottles on your free time. I like your priorities! 😂 Deanston 12 is nice. 15 is better. Wouldn't get hung up on "organic." It's good stuff, but the value is way better on the 12 unless you find the 15 on sale.
@frankmarasco62333 жыл бұрын
purchased for the 15 year statement .Could care less about organic...it just means they had to use "natural" pesticide...whatever. great stuff though. A little short on the finish. but nice whiskey.

Decent. Nothing too outstanding, but it goes down nicely and has some unique flavours. Cheers Frank!

Organic on the label doesn’t do much for me.

Uh....never became friends with this one at all. Something sour/bitter that I just don't enjoy, did not improve much with water. Gave 3/4 of the bottle to my nephew and his student-friends and the bottle was ended.....somehow in the end.
@Gwhisky3 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. I have some friends that love it and others that don’t like it. I think it's good, but this one definitely has people divided.

@@Gwhisky Yeah, it is a little sad I was not able to tame it more (tried to give it lots of time with water too), it does create scotch mists though. I have a slight impression that the dram got somewhat sweeter at that point, but it is difficult to say when you are quite deep down into a dram and the mouth sits coated. :) Good review and views though, glad people appreciate it, Deanston deserve the sales, for being transparent with integrity.

Agree. Like you I don't like EVERY Deanston, but I like Deanston. One of the good guys in the whisky world.
