I visited this new distillery last week. I wanted to give them my support and buy a bottle but the price of the whisky put me off. I bought coffee and cake in the cafe instead.

Love the reviews Jeff. Thanks for reviewing the Ardnahoe 5. I was excited to learn more about this inaugural bottling due to Jim McEwan's involvement as the Production Director at Ardnahoe. I loved what Jim did at Bruichladdich and I'm looking forward to trying Ardnahoe's offerings.

This is such a great whisky, so refined for only 5 years, love the oily almost Campbeltown character, looking forward to picking up a bottle of the Infinite Loch tomorrow in London.

Again nice shelve setup in the back. Which Bruichladdich is the one right next to the almost empty bottle? Also nice to see you have Dark Oranges, the best kind of oranges.

Yep, even I love it (despite the grape influence). Thanks for this snail review, Geoff. Darn, you're slow. (have to do some banter...and if not on the whisky, than you're the lucky one). Slàinte mhath

Nice review Jeff, I was very pleasantly surprised by this stuff, it reminded me of Port Charlotte 10 (high praise). Overpriced of course - I paid £70 in UK - but it's a first release so I guess that's par for the course.

Ah man you've missed a massive opportunity to be edgy and different by not liking this! They did a fantastic job with this one, I know they'll deliver better and better stuff. Value wise, the Infinite Loch is cheaper than this, which is what we wanted so hell yeah, they're on the correct path. Cheers dude!

Good to hear you support the hoes. I liked that you compared to other stuff (oily baby segment) so I get a feel for what it is. I just dont know about the prices of all these new, young whiskies. I get a Springbank 10 for 65 euro (not available the whole year but at the time of buying it), or a Bunnahabhain 12 for 60 euro, but I have to pay 80 euro for a 5 year old new distillery. I dont get it? Its 4% more, but what else? Its 5 to 7 years younger and untried. Genuinely confused by the pricing of new stuff

I managed to get my hands on it, it’s $82 in Sweden, and I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed, I just think it’s a little unbalanced and super salty for me. Excited for future releases though, as long as they’re not too expensive, given that this one is pretty hefty.

Fun review, my feelings about it are similar, only that I find the finish is what reminds me of its youth. Set looking good, though still that big blank space drawing in one's eyes. Didn't the supersized poster of your "TESTICULAR FORTITUDE" thumb come back from the printers yet?

Agree, agree and agree. Could this be the new Ardnamurchan on the block? Haven’t got hold of their core release yet but heard it’s very similar. 🤞

I spy a Bruichladdich Micro-Provenance Series bottle on your top shelf. I was recently in Taipei and picked up a Taiwan-exclusive one (2014, 2nd fill Sauternes). Do you have the same bottle and if so, as I haven't opened mine yet, should I be excited??
@paulfountain32957 күн бұрын
I was at the distillery a few weeks ago, tried it, and bought a bottle. I actually didn't think the pricing was too bad, especially for an inaugural release. but that might be because we pay a lot for whisky in my own market. I did try the Infinite Loch too which I liked as well and I believe that will be a bit cheaper.

Really glad I got to try some this! I think you're spot on with your review - it's a young whisky that doesn't taste super young, which is quite impressive. Price is definitely on the high side for a 5 year old, but it certainly is a nice dram. Only one question though - where's the mystery pour? :D

Seems like it is not available in my part of Canada despite it having a reputation for having the best selection in the country. Judging by the comments below, it seems likely the Ardnahoe would likely cost almost double what I have to pay for an Ardbeg 5 'Wee Beastie'. It would of course be nice to taste the new whisky but don't think there is value there.

Thanks for the review Jeff but if it’s 75 American for five year old, what’s it gonna cost for a 12 year old 350 it’s not Japanese whiskey lol
@Venetianization7 күн бұрын
In time the price should drop as they start to bring out older age statements. At 50% it is a bit pricey, but if it’s like Geoff said quite rounded and not sharp then why not. I’d buy a second bottle and leave it sitting in the back for 10 years. Could 10x in price by then.

Just wait and it will be available for a reasonable amount. I have had it and think it’s worth it. I enjoy tasting a new whisky from a new distillery. I’m not sure I’d revisit until there’s something more developed. A little like kilchoman in terms of pricing I think.
