You get a lot of bang for the buck with this one. It's difficult in Colorado to find a better quality / value ratio under $40. Would love to see a Clynelish 14 review.

That's great news. Cracked open my first Clynelish 14 with the wife recently. We loved it =) Looking forward to your take on it.

This is one I wanna try for sure! It’s one of the cheapest single malts in my market, NCF, natural colour, 46.3%, and I’m a Bourbon drinker as well..!

I hesitated to buy this one for a long time, as the price is very close to that of Deanston 12. However, it is now on offer for £27, so, I decided to give it a shot. Fingers crossed!

As someone who also quite likes bourbon, Deanston Virgin Oak is fantastic. It's spicier than Wild Turkey 101 but you'd never guess that from the nose. Well worth a pour!

For the price point how does it compare with Monkey Shoulder? I didn’t love the monkey at first, but more I drink it, I can say I do like it.

I prefer this, although MS is a nice blend. 🥃

@@Gwhisky I like single malts better, as well. It took a few drinks, but I like the monkey fairly well. I’d like to find something better for the price. I am going to try Deanston soon. Thanks for the reply.

I keep looking for the 12 year old since I watched the Ralfy review, but I cannot find it here in Hawaii…

That's odd. The 12 should be very widely available...

Try some of their special finishes, had an 10year old deanson bordeax wine finish and i thought it was fenomenal! extremly balanced and i could get some really good quality wine notes with some deanston charakter! It would probably suit your palate much better! Cheers!

It's actually really funny that you mentioned that. I literally just ordered the 2008 Bordeaux finish last night. You can expect a review soon. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great review ----------- I use this DVO as base for my Highland Infinity year-end all-malt vat : it is cheap, has high abv, general heather honey base notes and some spices (light cinnamon, clove) like Glenfiddich XX 47%. . . it helps enliven the left-over malts.

I've got the same impression of Deanston 12 (and also Glenmorangie 10) - way to parfumy/floral. BTW how did you end up being in Taiwan?
@Koby616 Жыл бұрын
Just tried it today. It has some nice flavors, but finish is quite short. Not bad whiskey for the price. Cost 32 - 34€, while deanston 12 - 54€

Here in Norway, the two has the same price, €51.5. I bought the 12 YO, and like it a lot. I'd like to try the virgin oak too but I know in advance another bottle of 12 YO will be better value.

Would you recommend the Deanston Virgin Oak or the Glen Elgin 12? I'm looking for a malt-forward whiskey and you defined both of these as malty. I could get the Deanston for 28 euros while the Glen Elgin for 45 euros which would be the most I'd be willing to pay currently for a scotch. Is there any bitterness to these whiskies btw? I like the fact that the Deanston is 46% non-chill filtered but sadly it is NAS. I don't see why distilleries don't put age statements to the younger ones as well. Having a 6 or 8yo statement would still be great imho. With the Glen Elgin I like that it is 12yo and is at least 43% even if not 46 but sadly it is chill filtered. Is the Glen Elgin 12 worth the price difference? I welcome any other suggestions as well in this price range 😁 Thanks! By the way great channel you have here, hope you'll get much more popular!

First off, thanks for the kind words. 🙏 I think both whiskies are good value for the money. My favourite of the two would definitely be the Glen Elgin. Despite the lower abv and the chill filtration, the age statement and the character itself are more to my liking. Very robust and malty, likely thanks to the use of worm tubs. But to be honest both are good. Hard for me to recommend others in that price range, as I'm not sure about pricing and options in your market. Hope that helps! 🥃

@@Gwhisky I actually went with the Deanston Virgin Oak. I rationalized it and chose based on price 😁 At least for now, I might get the Glen Elgin as well at some future time. I must say I'm impressed, it is quite a tasty dram! Very good mouthfeel as well. Especially considering it is NAS. It does not feel too young to me which is nice, might be some 6-8 year olds in there I guess. Seems like nice, quality cask selection as well. Thanks for the recommendation, I'm pleasently surprised!
