10 ways iPad drawing will help architects, interior designers and students take their freehand design and sketching, drafting, and rendering work flow to the next level. As an architect and full-time professional renderer, I have been using the Procreate digital app for about five years now, and I know from your comments that many of you architects and interior designers have the same two questions on your mind: 1) Should I buy an iPad, and 2) Which app is the best for architects and designers? In this video I show you the top 10 reasons why I gave up pencils and paper and started using only Procreate to do my architectural design and architectural rendering. So lets get right into it:
3 WAYS TO BECOME A BETTER DESIGNER:
1- Rediscover the benefits of drawing by hand in the Digital Age. Click here to register for the FREE Procreate Weekend Workshop: www.ipadforarchitects.com/new...
2- Browse our new online courses in Procreate for Architects and Sketchup for iPad click here: www.ipadforarchitects.com/onl...
3- Buy the brushes, stencils, grid templates, scale rulers and FF&E templates you see in our videos, click here: www.akersarchitecturalrenderin...

Jim, great video. I have watched a few and purchased an iPad Pro. I have never been an illustrator, but has become essential for Architecture today. Do you or can you import sketchup models and do all of the coloring in Procreate? Also, will you or do you hold classes for Architects? Again, great video.
@iPadForArchitecture
@iPadForArchitecture 4 жыл бұрын
So glad it was helpful, Scavuzzo & Assoc. As far as importing Skp models, I build a lot of my perspective views in Skp on my iMac then export/import the 2-D "scene" I want to the iPad and color that. Airdrop works great back and forth between the iMac and iPad. A lot of my renderings begin this way, and often as a super-basic Skp model with hardly any detailing, then I add all the details in Procreate. This lets me keep designing in Procreate, but I have found over the years that it is far more convincing to build views over a wireframe that is perspectively accurate. Many years ago we used to have to do those accurate perspective layouts by hand, but now Skp is ideal for doing that quickly. Thanks for your kind comments about the video!

The jury is out on that one haha. I have tried to use it/like it several times, but maybe because I had already become very adept at Procreate, I found it difficult or maybe even unnecessary to learn a new UI, because other than being vector-based (the advantages ofwhich I get, believe me!) I didn't see any other advantages over Procreate. What am I missing? Would love to hear your favorite feature of Concepts app, and how it could add to the repertoire.

I confess to being one of those personality types that I just accept the limitations of any new medium (Apple Pencil on iPad glass screen for example) and try to do my best with that. Back when I was doing watercolor, I figured, if I can't do any better than this on my own, then no new squirrel or sable hair brush is going to make a difference. Not saying its a good idea, just saying unfortunately I got the practicality gene (although my partner Nancy might debate that lol)

Hi Katy: Check out my recent video about using grid templates and imported scale rulers in Procreate. Its not a perfect method, but it preserves the integrity of the loose sketching process that I think is still the best way to develop your ideas before committing them to Sketchup or Rhino. Write me back in the comments if there are more specific parts of your question. Best, James

Can you expand on the "Morpholio vs Procreate" topic? I'm not an architect, but just a homeowner who loves to visualize remodel and landscape ideas. Sometimes I just want to doodle some spaceships. The only time I need a drafting program is when I need to submit scale drawings to the local permit office. Morpholio is $20/year, where as Procreate is $10/once. Will Morpholio be any better for a DIY remodeller, designer, and permit applicant?
@iPadForArchitecture
@iPadForArchitecture 3 жыл бұрын
This is a great comment and something I've been meaning to do. I know almost nothing about Morpholio so I need to do a compare and contrast piece about the two options. Thanks so much. I will say that based on the little knowledge I have, I don't think Morpholio offers a precise "drafting option" or automatically measured drawing option, though they do have the "scales" and "protractors" built in. Will look into this. Have you checked out other videos on this channel? Would love to know what's been useful to you!

@@-Pidi- To be honest I have not looked at it yet, but it can' be bad, and as long as you're OK with the dimensions, I say go for it! I prefer a larger tablet but that's just me. Whatever keeps you drawing and practicing the most, I say.

I really appreciate the feedback. I'm new to this...what's a better way to transition?

@@iPadForArchitecture What is pretty normal here on youtube is just hard cutting between clips. It may seem like it would be jarring but i think it is what most people here are used to. The fading wouldnt be a problem if it wasnt so often. But since it is, just cutting with no transition would probably be better.
