I've been telling poeple for months that it would not make sense for Nintendo to announce the new Switch (Super Switch?) in 2024 when they will release it in March or April of next year. They will still want to sell the existing Switch's for Christmas.

This is 100% the right take. As alluded to in the video the Wii U was doing horribly, Nintendo needed a jump into the next cycle. If you look at every Nintendo major console release all of them had an initial release in holiday season with the sole exception being the switch. Nintendo is willing to coast into the holiday season, it probably ends up being one of their worst (probably a lot better than MS and PS) holiday seasons and then right before they meet with investors in March, they announce the Switch 2. I do think the system gets a slightly earlier release than holiday, like August, just to help alleviate demand and make the management of inventory easier as it'll probably be a console that is impossible to find in stock for 12-18 months. Pokémon legends Z-A will be dual release, MP4 dual release, I think it gets an Exclusive new Mario game, and I think it gets a dual release of Loz WW/TP.

Hi there. Elder gamer here who's first console was an Atari 2600 and followed the industry pretty actively his entire life. What exactly am I to give up on? Why should I be so eager to spend another three to four hundred dollars on something new when I'm still very happy with what I have? You know what I DID give up on? Sony and Microsoft when they started going the direction of cinematic imitation in the late 2000s. So here's one Nintendo fan that encourages them to take their time. I'm in no rush to buy another entertainment device in this economy. I have 50+ first party titles and indies to enjoy until Nintendo decides it's time. The past five years should've taught us all just to be happy with what we have.

Yeah, once they started promoting the new bundles for the existing Switch models the writing was on the wall, and I feel like people have been reluctant to read the room about it. At any given time, there's always a bunch of kids who are just ageing into wanting a console of their own - or people who quit playing games a console generation or two back because work/family life got demanding and expensive, but now they've hit a point where they can afford to kick back a little and spend that money. Nintendo would be mad not to make the most of that market. A few years ago I was one of those people, and since then the Switch being behind the latest Xbox and PS hasn't mattered to me because it's still streets ahead of the last home consoles I owned. Fans often imagine the hardcore fan who owns all the consoles and buys every AAA game on launch day as being who Nintendo is speaking to or aiming their decisions at, but they're just one slice of the market, albeit an important one.

The switch 2 will be announced in January. We are currently in the biggest sales quarter of the year and the switch still has releases scheduled til April of next year. It makes no sense to announce it now. They’re within a few million of taking that top spot so why would they want to kill the holiday momentum by announcing the new console now. They will wait til after the holidays to announce it. Also they mentioned 2 years ago or so that the time between reveal and launch would be much shorter than previous generations so a January announcement with a March-April release date sounds more feasible to me. People just need to be patient it’s coming next year and that’s all you need to worry about. Enjoy the upcoming releases until then! 🤷‍♂️

On the one hand, I can understand Nintendo wanting to milk the Switch as long as they can. But on the other hand, many of us that had moved to doing almost all of our gaming on the Switch because of the convenience factor, have now moved away entirely because Nintendo has dragged their feet too long in updating their hardware. As a household, we have 7 switches, hundreds of games, and lots of hours spent playing those games. But other than my son playing the latest Zelda game, none of us have played on the switch in many months. I have no plans to ever buy any more Switch hardware or software for it. There is the chance we will get used to playing on the PCs, PS5s, and Steam Decks. And only buy one Switch 2 and only for playing AAA Nintendo exclusives. The long length of time between consoles due to Nintendo greed has left a bad taste in my mouth.

You're right. And sure, it's human nature to anticipate and it's good for us to have stuff to look forward to. But the scale of hype on this (especially given Nintendo's long history of "we'll announce it when we're good and ready") is people living in the future at the expense of the present. We're trained to be that way about everything due to how stuff is sold to us: Halloween in the shops in July, and Christmas stuff in September. It puts us off living in the moment. But I value Nintendo's efforts to extend the life of the Switch: we're no longer in the race for realistic 3D graphics and longer hardware generations make sense at this stage in gaming history: look at Sony's ongoing support for the PS4, for that matter, so this isn't even just about Nintendo having a unique attitude. I think we will see more generational overlaps and longer support as increasingly being the norm, and I'm glad of it: I'm still excited for what they have to offer on the existing Switch, even though I'm eager to see the new one unveiled.

I officially threw in the white towel with expecting a Switch 2 reveal this year after this passing week. The only reason I even put any real stock into believing it might happen this week was because of the Yooka Re-Playlee developers simply putting the Nintendo word at the end of their game trailer instead of the regular Switch logo. I thought those developers may have gotten word that the Switch 2 reveal would be coming up in the next week or so and they just decided to tease it early in their trailer. But after this week, I'm done with clicking on any Switch 2 reveal rumor videos. I'll get excited when Nintendo officially announces the reveal date.

The current Switch is so cheap to make with it's massively outdated chip. They're printing money. Also, gaming is in a weird spot where games are taking too long to make and costing too much to make. PS5 hardly has any games. People are about to be playing PS4 games on a PS5 pro. I think Nintendo is intentionally slowing down because they see this.

I don`t get the rush and urgency for switch2, sure I want it, but I was late getting the og switch(last xmas i got it) and trying to enjoy it as much as possible, and I am! Im over 100 physical games in less then a year and nearing completion of the entire shmup physical library. I love this damn system so much! I bring it to work when days are slow and it passes the time brilliantly. Its one of my favorite consoles of all time. Before I got switch I had fallen out of game collecting, switch reawakened my gaming spirit and sucked me right back in, something sony and xbox just cant seem to do. With all that being said switch 2 will be a day one buy for me, soon as preorders are announced Ill be preordering. But in the meantime I have no probs waiting and further building my switch physical library. Just be patient for f`s sake! Good things come to those who wait.

Plus they did just announce Alarmo and the Nintendo Music app. It’s not much, but it does show investors that Nintendo is looking to branch outside of video games. I would imagine that’s worth something to investors, without having to announce a new console right now.

As long as they keep on releasing quality titles as they mostly have been, Nintendo can take as long as they want to announce the next console. That's just my personal opinion. I'm in no rush to go out and buy 3 more of the next console for me and the kids, lol.

Figured it would have been revealed earliet this year for holiday sales. Once summer was over i figured it would be revealed next year for the holidays. After sega shot themselves in the foot with the dreamcast, no company will announce their next console while they are trying to sell their current console.

As main player of Xbox but a huge fan of Nintendo and PlayStation both ..Id never want them gone. We have 3 main games and console publishers...the last thing any of you want(even if u don't realize it) is any of those 3 to shut down completely. It will sky rocket prices from the other two due to lack of competition. If there's just one big gaming/consoles company..whether it's Nintendo Xbox or Sony ..they would be able to put out whatever games they want regardless of how well those games are made ..they could put out any consoles regardless of how good the quality is AND make whatever price up they want... because without competition between these companies it affects the consumers very negatively. We need them competing. And they definitely are this gen. Id say the biggest comeback is Xbox...they are cooking hard in the games department..so many games theyre able to sell sony a license for a couple.. which is a very small business decision imo. Make maybe 1/4 -1/2 multiplat and keep the main branded games exclusive. That's what I believe Xbox is doing. I do not at all believe the "whole slate" is going to PlayStation like one brand Sony PlayStation fanboys keep begging for . Anyways. People who want any of the three gaming/console companies dead are absolutely delusional and aren't real gamers. I have a switch, Xbox series x and s and a PS5...so I support all 3. Xbox happens to be my personal fav this gen but it's not the same for everyone...some love PlayStation the most ..some love Nintendo the most and some love Xbox the most... thats why players choice is so very important. It's really good for all of us. I know that my fellow gamers will agree. Some people collect brands...and some people play video games. I buy what I can afford and play games not based solely on the first party publisher but on the game itself.

The moment we were told that the switch successor would be ANNOUNCED in this fiscal year I always assumed they would wait to do it right at March, and I think the xenoblade x definitive edition coming out that late into March is a good indicator that we probably won’t hear anything til atleast after March 20, 2025

Nintendo isn't going to risk cannibalizing holiday sales to reveal the switch successor, they will wait until after the holidays to reveal it, January is most likely when it's revealed and spring 2025 for the release

January reveal at the end of Q4 because they want that sweet sweet holiday revenue. The system will releaae somewhere around the March-May window. If I we're to bet money on it, it would be Q1 2025 to start the fiscal year off strong.

I recently got a regular 3DS and am loving it. I got Metroid Samus return I think is the name. I've never played a Metroid game and I'm loving it. It so much fun. There is so many games for the 3DS and the Switch, I will be busy for a long time. I don't need a Switch 2 personally. I'm having fun with the 3DS and the Switch.
