Honestly the media is the major culprit behind it all, they are also the ones who are gaining the most because in the last 3 years their viewership was dropping by 20% a quarter. I was taking a finance class during the '08 crash. It became current events, the class, as the professor was just really not up to doing case studies and would rather talk about what they saw as good and bad reactions to what was happening. It's where I learned that volatility is just what happens in the market in the information age, and that machine trading is just going to increase the swings. That heuristics, sentiment, and psychology are impactful short-term, and that your value investing is where you go if you want metrics and functions to apply. What we're going through now reminds me of then, but this time the financial markets didn't shoot themselves in the foot, then the leg, then the gut and start to bleed out. So positives and negatives.

People who put a huge percentage of their available money into mtg are going to regret it. You left yourself no room to breathe. I maintain about 20-25% of my available $ into higher end MTG 93/94 , as I have no fear IF they tanked hard for whatever reason. I just don't really care of the prices going up or down in the relative short term(5+ years) I love the cards, and know I can (and will) be holding them for years to come. The moral of the story: For a tangible asset, you need to have a passion for what you are buying/holding onto, which feels good just looking at it whether it being a single card, or an un-opened box of cards! and have money that you could 'lose' without fear of it disrupting your life.

It comes down to what I consider a huge percentage of your available capital. People who have little money to spare or have even taken loans to try invest in mtg are what I am trying to get at. I have my life sorted out and have much more free capital just sitting in my bank doing nothing, and still that doesn't mean I should just go spend it all or even half of it. This is what I am talking about by having 20-25% of my worth in tangible assets, and I am totally comfortable with . I wouldn't lose any sleep if no gains were ever made, or losses happen. Its a hobby, and I am happy to own the cards I have purchased or just kept since the early days of the game.

Definitely agree with you. Ive been VERY careful with my purchases. Its soo bad where I live, theres literally no toilet paper due to the virus we cannpt talk about. Also, I was going to fly out with my partner and another agree with rudy time. Quick smart cancelled due to the sheer amount of drop outs in these events.

Thanks Rudy! While I am new to your channel, I value your opinion greatly. On the bright side, the last "Magic Recession" was 12 years ago. I like your attitude of stay the course. I play Magic and as a player, I might not mind the cheaper prices on some of the older stuff to be honest. It might give more players a chance at starting a nice collection. We are all spoiled a bit with the new sets coming out so regularly. I fear we lose appreciation on how much work actually goes into it.

I have not invested in magic and i did sell most of my alpha beta but following this guys advice i already can re buy what i had if not better. I was one of the few that bought up card collections during the 2008 recession. So many people were selling their collections and I was one of the few that were buying. I didn't do magic at that time, only sports cards. I made a lot of money selling cards when the economy got better. I spent $1,000 and ended up with $10,000. If you have the money, I just look at it as a good time to buy.

I realize stay the course is a little more sound advice in Magic because it's actual physical product and something of value but it sounds so similar to crypto terminology meant to get people to be the last person to hold the bag*. You are correct! You cannot time the market! Market Timing is a terrible way to invest money. Market timing is gambling. Dollar cost average your investments. Buy smaller amounts over long periods of time until you reach your exit strategy.
