@@wenxiaomei In the original (cut) song of "Your Obedient Servant" Hamilton was extremely rude and was the one to provoke him (he made a comment about his dead wife), not to mention that Burr had been patient with Hamilton for 30 years at that point. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ALSO!! At that point his name was going to be ruined either way, and he probably wasn't thinking straight- obviously nobody apologized so they're both at fault for going through with the duel.

Yeah. Both him and Hamilton went through so much death and sadness that if you think you can realise why they act how they do. Burr always stayed quiet because he always just wanted to hide and let things blow over for fear of making things worse or dying. He'd gone through the death of his parents, and he didn't want anyone else to go through that grief over him, so he was always cautious. Hamilton wrote too much because he was always running from death and knew that it wasn't long until it'd catch up.

This is what song should have made into the final production of Hamilton, only because it shows how Aaron Burr isn't just the villain in this story, he had a family and loved them
@unknown32354 жыл бұрын
He cheated on his wife multiples time and had children that Theodosia didn't know existence and Burr didn't care about these children. He also killed one of his best friends (Hamilton). But that's right that he isn't that bad. Hamilton and him were the same. They both got problems, both got similar emotionals stuff that happened to them and they did some things that were probably just the same as well. It's just that the musical wasn't about Burr, it was about Hamilton. If it would have been a musical about Burr, both Hamilton and Burr would have been the villains

I agree with unknown that the musical was about hamilton, and this song just didn't fit well into their story, them having to cut back a lot just to get the story across, but i also think this one was worth keeping in, instead of like idk I know him? again idk, its a great musical cant choose, anyway this does clear up a lot of things about the musical, if u never took a us history class in the world was wide enough he says "this man would not make an orphan of my daughter" which to the rest of the audience is just like"huh shes dead when did that happen?", there was also another cut song, or more like an extension to obedient servant where you see the level of savage Hamilton will go to. In the song he mocks Burr for the death of his wife and his grieving, because that doesn't concern him. burr understood that hamilton was in the best place what with everything that was going on, but he never acted that way towards him, at most he got pity, and of course quiet celebration that burr FINALLY made it into the room where it happens before the reynolds pamphlet.
@rachaeljokerst6975 Жыл бұрын
@@unknown3235 Hamilton doesn’t really have a villain in my opinion… just people who are trying to do their best and what they think is right with varying degrees of success… but it does have a hero. Eliza. I think that’s why it’s called Hamilton and not Alexander Hamilton. Yea they told his story, which is an amazing one, but hers is just so beautiful and pure and I love that Lin chose to tell her story too. The orphanage she established is still running. She’s still touching the lives of people today, almost 300 years later. It’s astounding. If my story is half as amazing as hers by the time I go I think I can call that a win.

(Edit): This Is Long You know what’s sad In Wait For It, Burr says the line- “When everyone who has ever loved me has died” And what makes it sad is that it’s kind of true. Burrs parents( whom he never knew) died when he was 2 years old His sister, his last living close relative, dies sometime around late 1700’s His wife dies of stomach cancer Only one of his children survive into adulthood His grandson who was named AFTER HIM dies His daughter, whom he had not seen for years due to being basically exiled from the U.S, disappears at sea on her way to visit him His son-in-law dies TWO years after his daughter And then he has to live another two DECADES basically alone And to top that all off with a cherry, his new wife ( who I will admit that he married for her money seeing as she was the most wealthy women in America at the time) decides to divorce him after only a couple months of being married He literally couldn’t get out of bed due to his health, and _dies_ on the day that the divorce is finalized OH!! And who was the divorce lawyer who handle their case?? You guessed it!!! It was... ALEXANDER HAMILTON JR.!!!! -*P.S* I’ve read all of you guys comments, and I want to something. I did not write this to compare Burrs life to Hamilton’s or anyone else’s. I wrote this just to point out the irony of the line. Nowhere in here did I say anything about Hamilton himself. Nowhere did I say that Burr had it worse. You cannot. I repeat. CANNOT. Compare one person’s suffering with another’s. It doesn’t work that way. You cannot invalidate one person because someone else had it quote on quote worse. There isn’t a worse, because they are not the same person. They are not the same person, and they haven’t had the same experiences. Yes, someone might have had something more severe happen to them, but you can’t say that another persons pain is not just as valid purely because the cause of the pain wasn’t as bad as someone else’s. That one thing, although not as bad as someone else’s, might be the worst thing to happen to THEM yet. You see that, THEM. Not you, or the person your trying to compare with. THEM, because the only way to really “compare” someone’s pain, is by seeing THEY’RE past experiences. AND STILL, it’s not even comparable because it is not they’re not the same as they where. People are made and shaped by so many things, and no one is ever completely the same. No one is ever completely the same. So, no one ever completely reacts the same way. Has the same experiences to draw knowledge from, lessons from. Heck, no one even has the same exact thought process. Everyone is different, and everyone has been shaped differently. Yes, Hamilton had a rough life, but so did Burr. Yes Burr was unpredictable with his opinions and did a horrible thing by shooting Hamilton, but Hamilton was snarky and rude, and did talk sh*t about Burr. A LOT. Yes Burr never truly expressed that he regretted shooting Hamilton, but Hamilton provided and tampered with the guns that they used during the duel. What i’m trying to say is that Burr had a right to dislike Hamilton and Hamilton had the right to dislike Burr. But that doesn’t erase the fact that Hamilton did dig his own grave by talking sh*t about Burr. And Burr still even considered him an acquaintance I think. I know Hamilton didn’t think so though. Hamilton lost his mother when he was 10, but it is hinted that he still knew who and where his father was, and that he was in some sort of contact with him. Burr lost both his parents and grandparents at the age of two in only a matter of a year. He had no connection with anyone except his sister and uncle who didn’t really care about them that much. Hamilton, had to climb his way up from the bottom, he saw what life was like on those islands and he didn’t want that life. Burr on the other hand, came from a rather prominent name with a fair amount of money, so he already had the upper hand on Hamilton in that regard. But, Hamilton was a very good people person, and a lot of people came to like him, which made it easier for him than it would have been otherwise. A good example of this is George Washington himself. He took him under his wing and cared for him, which was beneficial for Hamilton. However, Washington did not like Burr and the feeling was very mutual. In fact Burr was also invited into Washington’s “family” like Hamilton, but only to work as an attendant rather than an actual member. Washington also failed to acknowledge Burr when he risked his life to save a battalion of men during a battle, including Hamilton. (I think Burr also got Hamilton out of a duel one time by talking things out between the two opponents) Both men had different experiences from similar happenings that shaped who they were. Both men had their flaws and both had their strengths. It’s not worth arguing who’s life was worse, whose actions where justified and who’s where not. It’s not fair to say that one had a rough life while one should have known better, acted better, been better. Both of them had it rough , I was only trying to bring to light Burrs life because the musical isn’t about him, so we don’t get to see him truly to the fullest.

@@backup-ct1zy That does not give a reason to hate someone! You have to remember that Hamilton's life sucked just as bad if not more. Hamilton and Eliza went through many miscarriages, Hamilton's father split, Hamilton's mom died, Hamilton's cousin committed suicide, Hamilton worked his butt off his whole life and got forgotten, Hamilton's "testiment to his pain" was probably going to be a suicide note, Hamilton may have been gay (read "My dear Laurens"), Laurens died, AND on top of all that Burr constantly out did Hamilton just as much as Hamilton out did Burr. Oh and I forgot BURR AND HAMILTON WERE FRIENDS! AND HAMILTON GOT SHOT BY HIS FRIEND! Just because the play is based off of a historical figure does not mean it's historically accurate. And Burr regretted shooting Ham. So no, Burr didn't hate Ham, and did not have reason to hate him. Go and open a history book or something

Just...Just when he cries or stutters, I fall apart. I couldn't believe it when I saw this on Broadway, I couldn't believe that someone as strong as Aaron Burr, could just...sob and break down like that. This is really what Lin was trying to accomplish, I think. To make us feel like we know the characters personally, so when something like this happens, we react the way we would react if our mother or son or dear friend died. We cry and mourn. I think that's what he meant to do. Or I could be really insane and paranoid after watching two hours of this.

"We bleed and fight for y-... sometimes it seems that's all we do." Might be my favorite line in the whole musical. He delivered it perfectly, you realize he's feeling a lot of things. He is also telling his daughter that he is sorry for spending so much time fighting. Damn.

um- burr killed someone, aka Alex, because he was jealous of his ambition and success. His son died because Ecker shot early that is neither Philip or ALexander's fault, thirdly the only people in the play he offended politically was Burr, occasionally Madison and Jefferson. Oh, and Adams, but he manages to get Madison and Jefferson on his side on different occasions.
@claireschmaltz97045 жыл бұрын
He also killed A. Ham because he didnt want his 21 year old daughter who was married to become an orphan while Ham still had 7 living children that all still needed taking care of, (one was older yes I know but after Phillip died she became disabled look it up) and left Eliza who had finally gotten over what Ham had done to her and accepted that her son was dead to raise all of those children by herself (for the most part) while keeping up Hamilton's legacy.

@@akidono9551 Yeah but *in the musical* Alex encourages his son to do the duel, which THUS had Phillip killed. Burr thought Alex was going to kill him *in the musical* , so that's why Burr killed him too. Burr couldn't control his daughter's or his wife's death at all, but if Alex told his son NOT to do the duel, Phillip wouldn't've died, and his daughter wouldn't've fallen into her mental illness. *In the musical* he got tired of Hamilton's shit too, like Hamilton got done with his shit, but they still cared for eachother in the end -surprisingly-. But still, this person is talking about the *IN THE MUSICAL* Burr, not the *real life* Burr.

@@maryhutchison7268 and he regrets it. He died knowing that his wife and daughter is dead and the fact that he killed his best(if not only) friend. In the end Burr cared. In the beginning Burr was there, he was the one that helped at time of war and always seemed to want to stay positive (most of the time he did unsuccessfully). Burr has possibly one of the most saddest story's I've witnessed. At least Alex still had his wife, honor, and reputation.

I think its a very cool detail that he still wears his ring. Also, the detail of making it stand out and almost glow is very nice. It really helps bring attention to it.

Burr was seen as a villain as said in "the word was wide enough" But he was an embodiment of a troubled angel. Burr was truly exceptional. He was the second strongest person in all of existence. Burr has things in common with Elisa and Alexander: •Instead of him cheating like Alexander, Theodosia cheated on her husband with burr •he lost his lover like Eliza •he's an orphan like Alexander •he had a thing for angelica like Alexander
@charlotterhodes73594 жыл бұрын
I just love Burr as a character (and of course it's based in irl but I just love how he's portrayed in the musical as well) As you said, Burr has gone down in history as a jealous murderer and Alex as a hero, but in my opinion they both had good and bad traits. Burr was hard working, he was a loving father and wife to the Theodosias and he lost everything he loved. His second wife divorced him, he lost his parents, he lost his place close to Washington because Hamilton took it instead. And yes he did shoot Alex, but he it regretted after. Like he says in The World Was Wide Enough, he was the one who paid for his actions. But he still goes down as the villian Alex, whilst yes has been though many tough points in his life as well such as losing hi parents and his son, in my opinion he got off quite lucky. He convinced Laurens to duel Lee, he ruined his relationship with Eliza, but he is still remembered as a hero who did nothing wrong. And yes he did feel bad about what happened with Eliza, it doesn't change the fact that he still did it. Sorry this comment is so, so long it's not often I see someone who actually likes Burr so I just wanted to get that out there 😂

Charlotte Rhodes I agree with you on many points, but I don’t think it’s fair to say Burr did mess up, but at least regretted it and then say Alexander regretted, but still messed up. In other words, they both messed up, but they both regretted their mistakes and that’s what’s important. My apologies is you find this offensive, but I just felt like it was important to say.
@charlotterhodes73594 жыл бұрын
@@lessthanamillionsubscommun5845 no of course I totally agree, I did try to explain that but I think it came off a bit one sided. They did both make mistakes, and they did both regret it yes thanks for clearing that up

To be honest, I honestly felt for both Hamilton and Burr in the musical. These two made their mistakes as all humans do, they had their fights, but when you think about it, politics and the hatred that comes with being on opposing sides- and thus the competition- seem to be the only reason that these two just couldn’t be friends instead of rivals. Heck, politics seemed to pretty much be a good majority of Hamilton’s life in particular with the rest being his family life. I’m not trying to discount either of them by any means. Even if I don’t agree with everything they believed, they were both important figures of American history and influential in their own ways.
