I don't think Twitter should focus on video content and more creator tools, that's not the reason people use Twitter. It's is still primarily a text-based platform, for information and opinions. To this end, I think it would be helpful to have more tools to customize your timeline. My timeline is getting increasingly bloated by retweets, following people that reply too often to each other, self-promotion and advertisements. Giving the user more options when following a new user would be helpful, things like: "follow, but skip retweets", "mute all conversations between user X and user Y", "set limit to number of tweets shown by user X", "only show tweets of user X that get more than 10 likes", "skip tweets that have less than 10 characters", and so on.

I get a lot of value out of KZbin and I’m not a content creator. I’m a consumer. How can Twitter serve me? I like the idea of reaching out and touching all Twitter users. How about other ways of doing that other than likes? Like tips? Add the ability to tip a tweet that you like. As for content creator tools, how about tools to better manage interacting with replies? I’m not a popular Tweeter, so I don’t know what it looks like to get hundreds of replies to my tweets, but if I did, is it easy to see what replies I have seen and which ones I haven’t? Is it easy to run through all your replies to read them all? How about replies of replies of replies? Sometimes I read tweets under a popular tweet and get lost in the threads. This has always been a problem for me and made it difficult for me to understand how to use Twitter.

Well, he’s not really logical in that reasoning. Might cost him $8 to post it, but he’ll still make at least a couple grand off monetization on Twitter. Pay $8 for the ability to make thousands, seems like a decent deal to me. IMO, this all depends on if Twitter can acquire/re-acquire advertisers. Many advertisers are banding together with the left and “removing twitters way to make money.” Really don’t want to bring politics into this; Twitter honestly hasn’t changed at all *so far* since Elons acquisition. Not sure why advertisers are pulling ads and some *celebrities* are leaving the platform. Twitter was wildly successful/popular 5+ years ago, before all the “censorship” and such. More discussions, more learning, more entertainment, etc. Elon taking Twitter back to the “good ol’ days” might be a good thing. But we have to wait and see what happens/ what he does. Edit: when I say “wildly successful,” it seemed that way to me. Just about all my friends were on it, my school used it for announcements over weekends, even my parents made accounts, etc. I only knew a handful of people not on Twitter; but now days, most my friends aren’t on Twitter. But a few have came back since Elons acquisition. And not to bring politics into this, we are all over the board on beliefs in politics/ideology.

Also, most normal people don't want to subscribe to another thing, especially since there are a lot of normal people who just use Twitter and not be an observer like on youtube. We just tweet shit. When I go to Twitter I’m looking for news updates, stories about video games or new releases, or checking up with content creators daily lives. I almost never watch any super long videos on Twitter bc 1.) the video player is awful, and 2.) there’s no interest in doing it there when I have KZbin to do it perfectly fine like it has for years. I don’t want an everything app, and what you’re describing sounds like what Instagram has tried to do with shoving everything into one, and people (at least vocally) absolutely hate that. I appreciate the tone and spirit of this video and get where you're coming from on this, but like other commenters I also think that content creator focused tools shouldn't be a priority for improving Twitter in the near term. The biggest problems facing most people on Twitter right now are the experience of seeing lots of tweets that people feel aren't relevant to them because the algorithm currently boosts reshares and engagements by people you follow over the actual content of your follows. Lately they're even throwing "you might like..." suggestions and I feel like this has been the wrong way for the site to go. It's not that I think your suggestions shouldn't happen, but as you noted even Facebook has 10x the DAU count so Twitter has a long way to grow to become an attractive platform for those who make a living on audience size. IMO Twitter should probably focus on getting right what it does best before expanding its scope to be an influencer destination.

From my experience using twitter for over 8 years with at least 5 different accounts and 3 accounts that I check EVERY SINGLE DAY, twitter is for the audiences. Yeah creators can use it too, but the platform itself will be trash if it turns into a place to create more content. Where do the people talk about their current interests in day to day life? In series theyre watching? In famous people they follow? in youtubers and writers theyre interested in? where do they share their fanarts and creations so others who like the same thing can see? Twitter is perfect for that.

Twitter is a platform for tweets, small ideas that are shared. In that sense, it is more like a worldwide chat. That's why it feels you can talk to anybody, because it is a messaging service ! Therefore the question is not how to monetize content creation but user interaction and messaging. I would push for better messaging and interaction tools, data visualization of all those interactions ...

i think still implementing instagram-like, youtube-like and tiktok-like features could improve the twitter landscape without negatively affecting the users too much, even if they decide to go for integration over competition. eg a yt link uses the youtube embed player or a custom player from a yt-twitter partnership to play the vid (with ads unless yt premium is linked to twitter) without needing to go to the yt site. with tiktok they could be a bit more aggressive with the embed player, opening a client to play the one video and offering a link to follow the uploaders twitter which auto-mirrors all tiktok posts through linked accounts. also having a close friends option like meta/snapchat would be good for personal tweets vs public tweets.

Last time you made a 'Dear Twitter' video, I commented and you replied in a video about it, so here we go again. Let's be real. Musk didn't buy Twitter to create a 'free-speech haven'. His track record of noticing un-realised monetisation potential in companies makes me think this is first and foremost a business move. However, the even grimmer truth, is that billionaires like controlling information. I don't mean this in a (necessarily) nefarious way, but purely as a means to lobby and influence. Musk discovered the insane potential of Twitter when he spent the pandemic manipulating the Crypto market with single tweets, and we also know that the major success of his companies often rely on the fruits of government lobbying (think tax-breaks, incentives, etc). Am I being cinical? Well with all eyes on him since the purchase, he has already used the platform to literally tell people who to vote for in the midterm elections. Did he need to buy Twitter to do this? No, but sadly I do think this is an indicator of things to come. For better or for worse, the head office of Twitter has always decided what is acceptable content for their platform. He disagreed with the politics of that office, so he muscled them out, and will now usher in a different form of politics. Billionaires love their media empires - not because they make money, but because having some semblance of control over public discourse bares an even greater reward; the power to protect and grow their wealth and influence. Congrats if you made it through my rant, have a lovely day!

Mmm, he used his personal twitter account to give his personal opinion on who to vote for. He didn't use the platform itself. If you connect on Twitter, there is no banner on the top saying "VOTE REPUBLICAN", like you can see pro Ukraine flag everywhere else. Elon Musk is still free to tell whatever he wants to his followers. Previous owners of twitter went all the way to actually ban the president of the United States. This is much worse in terms of manipulation. Elon is unbanning people and working against shadow bans that twitter and other platform SNEAKILY developed without telling anyone, until we discovered the truth about how much twitter regulate the information according to their own values. To be honest, the more people can talk (bans) be seen evenly (shadow bans), the better for freedom of speech. Now the question is: Is more freedom of speech a good thing on the internet, or was previous owner of Twitter right to manipulate the information to fit their own ideal. Is letting people too free on the internet a good idea? Also Elon is not a saint, i'm not saying he won't make profit and use twitter for his interest. Tho previous owner were trying so hard to dictate their own ideology, i'm not sure he can be worst than them. Let just see.

The entire way of how we do expertise as a society is wrong. How do you really become an expert in something? By getting a diploma in it? No, it's by having a genuine strong interest in something and consuming a lot of content about it and thinking about everything you've consumed. I know so many people that got a diploma in something they're not that interested in but just grinding their way through a major. Someone who is really smart and has a genuine strong interest is always going to be better at it because they don't just do it to get a diploma or some official letters next to their name by doing the least amount possible for that to happen. For example, a friend of mine once hired a summer intern web developer who was 17 and in high school. Said he was the best developer he's ever hired because the kid was genuinely interested in programming and doing it since he was 6.

My issue with subscriptions is that some of them feel like cash grabs without real thought. At least with something like a Twitch sub, you get features related to the chat and the stream, a package that has a specific place within the Twitch platform. Twitter Blue consists of things completely unrelated to each other like editing tweets, reader mode, changing the app accent colour, customising the navigation bar, etc. It just feels like Twitter is taking everything the community wants and locking it behind a paywall because they know people will pay for it.

I believe Twitter is a different kind of social media platform than KZbin. While KZbin and Instagram are creator-oriented (or at least try to be), Twitter is more like a space where common people can communicate with high-ranking and influential personas. I think it should remain this way because of how unique this concept is. I think Twitter can get a lot of inspiration from Telegram that recently introduced a paid subscription.
@IageF2 жыл бұрын
Another thing that differentiates the platforms: The vast majority of users on Twitter are curators and "content creators", while this only is true for a tiny fraction of users on KZbin. Marques basically says "Look, KZbin has 2.6 billion users and only 20 million paying subscribers", but honestly, what big advantages will a passive consumer on KZbin get that they can't have for free with an ad-blocker? It might not be fair (or even good for society as a whole), but if paying for Twitter means your replies and tweets will be ranked above non-paying users, then the advantages are very obvious for most of the people who use the platform. Add in other features and we're talking of something that might be worth it even if you just have 4-500 followers, in a way that never would be worth it if you had a similarly sized following on KZbin. People are on twitter to make themselves heard, advocate for their positions and impact others. I think many will be willing to pay for more traction.

@VishalGauba2 жыл бұрын
Twitter is, and should be, like you said - a social media platform. I don't think of KZbin as a regular social media platform. It's a mostly content consumption platform and quite one-sided (check % of comments VS views on any video). Twitter's value comes from enabling people to exchange quick thoughts with each other. That's the power. One huge part of this is enabling spread of ideas and thoughts between a "common" person and a "famous" person. Another important value of Twitter is that it allows "famous" people to updates their fans know about stuff, a communication tool for announcements and updates. The most important part here is that the primary medium of thought is TEXT. And I think its right now the only platform left to have that. Text is very important. Pictures and videos can't be the solution to all needs of communication. I don't think Twitter should long term bet on videos, or even on creators. Verified Checkmark - Considering that, for celebrities, Twitter gives a platform to speak (and potentially market their new works) to their audience, the verified checkmark does give them value. The value of being the source of truth for their fans VS the traditional way celebrities used to speak indirectly through media outlets. Twitter is a personal branding and marketing platform for celebrities, and that's the value for them. This synergy helps both Twitter and the celebrities.

I don't think I can agree with you on KZbin being a one-sided platform. As you stated, the $8 Twitter blue should be an added value proposition. The rollout of a second check mark for official accounts is redundant and confusing. Twitter should leave verified accounts with the current check mark in a blue circle. If the account is not verified but they pay for Twitter Blue, give them the blue dot with no check mark in it. That would get rid of the second redundant check mark and leaves room for Twitter to add paid features and the ability to designate a Blue account with distinction from a verified account.

All streaming services are giving you lower audio quality then wave form, but if you use KZbin music and create a list from artist studio albums, and then listen to them on KZbin in video form, the audio sounds just like a CD. I completely agree with these ideas for being behind Twitter Blue, as influencers, creators, and power users are likely the target audience for Twitter Blue and would incentivise more creator types to pay for power features. However, I think for Twitter to survive, they need to focus more time and energy onto the non-paying users, who use Twitter more like a public forum rather than a content platform. Making verification much easier to apply for (and free), allowing more customization options for your timeline such as better filters to keep garbage out of your feed, better targeted/less annoying ads, etc. to make the site much more usable for the average person will be what keeps it alive. I think Twitter has it's place in the social media ecosystem, and falling into the trap of making it more creator focused will likely kill it.

That may work for someone who plans to just spend an evening looking at whatever, but if you want to find something specific on a user's profile, it's a nightmare, especially if they post more than one type of content (Looking at you, artists who also have 95% generic food pictures in the same feed as the art).
