The biggest downside so far in my experience with the dislike button being hidden is when I click on a video and I see the amount of likes, I can't help but wonder "Is the 50 likes contrasted with 1000 dislikes? or is it 50 likes and 10 dislikes? I'll never know." Your first rebuttal point about not knowing if the videos is worth my time is the best one. Great point that the comments can be even nastier because now the people who dislike the video don't really feel like their vocie is heard. I like your idea to only allow dislike ratings to be posted for people who have watched a required length of the video (let's say 10% continuous).

I have to admit that since KZbin hid the dislikes my use of this platform decreased to almost zero. Beside Mr Marques I watch little to nothing else. It’s weird that Google didn’t find a better solution, like letting the content creators choose if they want to share the dislikes with the community or not. Weird solution to remove the dislikes and to simply ignore all the backlash afterwards.

Agree 100%. Also, if KZbin's goal is to improve creator's mental health, I don't think removing dislikes even helps. It just means that instead of getting bombed with 6,000 dislikes, you'll get bombed with 6,000 comments saying "you suck" "ratio" "L" "use me as a dislike button". This does a huge disservice to audiences like mine who use KZbin as a study tool. Learning English as a second language is hard-there are a ton of great resources for students on this platform, but there is also plenty of content that is misleading, outdated, lazy, or just plain wrong. Why make it even harder for users to know what information to trust (or at least spend their time on) when you could just... i don't know... not?
@SupBlub
@SupBlub 2 жыл бұрын
KZbin does not care about what you want to spend your time on. They just want you to spend your time. They don't care about the accuracy of information, if you need to spend 10 minutes to find out a video was not worth watching that is not necessarily bad for them. They also really would like to be more like the other platforms and be a recommendation engine as Marques describes it. It's easier to keep people on the platform if they only consume content you provide them.

This does seem to be the wrong way to go in a time when true/valid information is harder and harder to discern from fake. This whole thing seems lazy as hell. Why not make a behind the scenes algorithm that basically works like DDOS software, looking for dislike bombs and shadow blocking the downvotes to anyone but the offenders. You also give users a behind the scenes rating based on quality of their comments and rating history compared to others. So, this user downvotes every single video they watch? Well, never count their downvotes, or count it something tiny like 1/1000th of a dislike. Again, this approach by YouiTube feels lazy, they are throwing out more data, and abandoning the huge amount of self moderation the community does. Aren't they losing valuable statistics too? Puzzled all around.

And more dislikes indicates a more controversial thing, again, not necissarily bad, there are videos i liked that have a decent amount of dislikes that I can understand why some would dislike, and I wouldnt erase those dislikes if you let me. as its informative of audience feedback in the forum. it kinda indicates more of a nuance that just giving one side of the coin (like). I mean, there can be organized dislike bombings I suppose, but i dont think that danger invalidates the freedom and general utility of the dislike/like relationship gives to the veiwers as a tool of civil expression. not necissarily the quality of a video. I find it one of the most useful and engaging aspects of youtube. Or if you dont want to put your name and profile out their with a comment, but still want to be heard and see what other peoples general sentiment is. Like Marques said, its a great tool for trying to understand context

Dislikes have nothing to do with KZbinrs. It is purely political.

@@SleeplessSpecter …. I disagree. I mean, if the topic in the particular video is political or if they are in some drama, it could show that. but not every video is political. Like, I dont think a laptop reviewer gets downvoted for their political views unless they are really smashing it in peoples faces. And I find most polite political videos don’t get downvoted to hell either. As a youtube user I find it very helpful. great way to gauge audience response, not nessiarily video quaity (though the two can often be related). And Like, i would say less then 5% of videos have liked/dislike abused.

Everyone should start leaving a comment on videos that says "Like my Comment if you Dislike the Video. " If that trend caught on, it would somewhat help to still give people a first glance view of the quality of the video and be a middle finger towards the KZbin overlords.

When people see a 98%+ like ratio they know they are (probably) about to watch some quality content. I work hard to hit that number. I work hard to make sure that when they click, they feel like it's worth sticking around because that little number tells them that this video is (probably) worth their time. And all of that is separate from the experience I have as a user, watching dozens of videos per day and quickly sizing them up in the way you describe in this video. This really is an absolutely terrible change and I hope they revert it.

What if a video on a small channel has 9 likes and 5 dislikes... or 41 likes and 19 dislikes. Nobody thinks about the channels with smaller audiences and I find that kind of alarming since this change would impact those creators more than others if not implemented.

This hurts education KZbin so much, and the "algorithm" (Search & Discovery system) does not have the capacity to account for these bad videos in other ways. If creators still see dislikes to themselves, this doesn't "protect their mental health" and if it's such a big deal, they should just manually disable ratings themselves

Good, if you feel any disgust then you’re a disgusting person. What comes out of you is within you. KZbin is taking the initiative to further the mental strength of KZbin watchers. Having them speak for themselves and speak on their views rather than the views of others and using it as their own. People will no longer judge a video off of the like dislike video and have to read thought out comments or watch the video themselves. “Another important point” telling us that what you’re saying is important, thinking for us. “This WILL ALTER” telling us what will happen and putting it in all caps to make it seem like it’s going to happen. so glad I can see these flaws through comments rather than a dislike button

@@TheTruth-13 You disgust me. Making the world all "nice" is making it all "tolerant" instead of just. Want to know why sex offenders and murderers get the chance to reoffend? Because they're tolerated more than they deserve. If you utterly destroy a person or their rights, you forfeit your own. Don't want to show basic consideration? Then you don't deserve basic consideration. Society and the world should base itself, its actions, and its self-worth on responsibility to PREVENT problems, but someone who rapes and murders a child gets an unhappy vacation in prison if found guilty, instead of being made an examples of by being horrifically and publicly destroyed or even used for medical experimentation. Their life should be made a living hell for as long as possible and society should be willing to do ANYTHING to them. If people's mental health (happiness) is negatively affected, it's because they don't have what it takes to participate in a meaningful or appreciated way and are too weak and insubstantial to do anything but complain and shrivel up when others make it known. They can't or won't learn. Enjoying the pandemic and global warming? Well, everyone was so focused on what's normal they didn't do a damn thing to fix anything or deal with the consequences of their actions. And big business and government went along with that, exploiting the weak, stupid, uninitiated and IRRESPONSIBLE for everything, knowing they'd come out on top while losers and the losers who tolerate them would pay through the nose for costly "solutions" to the very problems they caused themselves or were encouraged in by those seeking to take advantage of them. Have fun going through the comments. I dislike you and the billions of people like you, but life is just. Nature isn't using a dislike button to clean up the planet. It's just wiping idiots who demand less public negative feedback on their work for the sake of their mental health off the fucking planet. Them and some people like me who are made to tolerate them out of survival. You should be grateful for any feedback at all. It's a warning that is being removed by people nurturing the idiocy that is so common in a world that cares more about a happiness based on what's normal than on dealing with reality to actually get things right.

@MooseGoose “a way to communicate” you must have a primitive mind and can only establish communication through a button rather than a thought out response in the comments telling the creator what you didn’t like to give them a better perspective. But I can understand why primitive minds would rather hit the dislike button to confuse the creator on what they disliked. Lower forms of intelligence have a hard time understanding what communication truly is. They would rather be primitive and communicate through “good” and “bad” like cavemen

in my country, Germany, we watch news channels like Bild, ARD and others on KZbin, these channels usually upload posts that are so hot and they turn of the comments so that we can't express our opinions on a news channel talking about politics, COVID news, crime and so on but the only thing that made me feel better was that I could click on the dislike button when i didn't like or i felt it was just fake or wrong or whatever reason. Now these channels benefit so much, as comments are off, and the dislikes are hidden. Which means you are FORCED to agree with them.

All valid reasons! I hate that change as I am using KZbin primarily for learning and if something is not good I use the like/dislike ratio. Now it's not possible anymore. It's like Google is forcing users to watch anything, even if the actual video contains misinformation or is straight up damaging. Hiding that piece of information could also be interpreted as censorship or attack at the freedom of speech. Terrible decision from Google. And lastly, if some creators are mentally affected by dislikes then they should not be publishing on KZbin at all.
