I can guarantee you that they have MANY consultants, and they did multiple rounds of testing and focus groups. The problem is not whether or not companies receive the information it is whether or not they deign to accept it. And sadly the people responsible for green lighting ideas live in a bubble of wealth which no amount of information can penetrate. More than likely, this thing is just to get people talking about the brand to hopefully boost sales of their other products.

Side note: as a cleaner, stick vacuums are the worst. I've cleaned houses where the owners excitedly told me they'd "upgraded" to a stick vacuum and OH GOD I could only smile while screaming internally. Sure, they're very handy to quickly suck up crumbs, and they're easier to carry up and down stairs, but when you got to vacuum a whole house your wrist is going to hate you after the first half hour. And vacuuming under furniture is no fun because unlike a hose vacuum that you can easily shove under there with one hand, stick vacuums are heavier and you have to bend/squat down, all while keeping your hand on the button otherwise it turns off. Not to mention battery life is a pain and oftentimes the damn thing died on me halfway through the 2nd floor and I had to resort back to broom and pan :(

@@bookaddict209 To add to gabotron94 with a brand recommendation: I got the Shark Pet Vacuum (don't know the *exact* model) four or five years ago. I had (at the time) all carpets in a 2400 sq ft home (minus kitchen and 2 bathrooms). I haven't had to purchase a new one and it is exactly what she/he(?) is talking about - a canister with filters. Never had to replace the filters, just wash them out. I have 3 dogs (4 at the time; one was a foster that found a forever home), 7 cats, several rats and have had more than a score of baby chicks in a brooder (those create hella dust) at different times. 100% worth the $170ish dollars I paid at the time. I was also a maid for two years in SoFla and flat out refused to use customer Dyson stick vacuums or knock-offs for the EXACT reasons OP stated.

Personally I can see your points, however I dont think they apply to everyone. For example we have had our cordless vacuum cleaner for close to 3 years now. I agree, it was tiring on our shoulders at first (wrists not so much) , but After a little while you truly get used to it. My shoulder does not hurt any more, even when using it for a prolonged period. I guess it highly depends on what vacuum you buy, I am sure some are more heavy than others. I also cant confirm your issues with vacuuming underneath furniture. Back when I used my corded vacuum I still had to bend down to clean underneath furniture. I dont find using my cordless vacuum any more tiring. And whether the battery lasts for an entire vacuum of the house highly depends on the size of your home, the vacuum you have. Our vacuum is now three years old and while the battery life sure has suffered and gotten shorter, we can still manage to vacuum our entire place on one charge (200 sq. m.). We have a xioami vacuum btw. Our specific vacuum also has a Button to keep the vacuum running so you dont have to continuously press the button.

From the look of the filter, it's for physical filtration only (e.g. dust). To remove chemical vapors (gas, "porta-potty", etc.), you need different materials (usually activated carbon). Dyson tried to make a PAPR which doesn't need a seal but at least they admit it's not a medical grade. I knew this product was a joke the first ad I saw. Glad you called them out on this one!

Fun fact: James Dyson tried over 5000 different prototypes of a bagless vacuum cleaner before getting a manufacturer on board - and that manufacturer only sold in Japan. Dyson used that money to launch his own business. The rest is history. So, of all inventors, Mr. Dyson seems to be familiar with hit and misses a lot. All that said, I just hope there aren't 5000 prototypes of these headphones LOL

Yep, Dyson tried to copy an industrial bagless cyclone vacuum he once saw in a sawmill. It's impressive that be built 5127 prototypes in five years... In any case, I guess his patented idea is just to use cyclonic separation in a (domestic) appliance. And to provide at least one "industrial strength" feature (apart from the pink color), he added an "industrial strength" price (equivalent to 10,000€ in 2023 money,).

@@gympatron2856 It's blowing that filtered air at your nose and mouth, but there's no seal so when you breathe in you'll be breathing a mixture of filtered and unfiltered air. It would probably help a bit, but not as much as you'd want if you had bad hayfever. Wearing an N95 mask would be much more effective and avoid the problems of dry mucous membranes that Mike described. Wearing a simple cloth mask might be similarly effective and avoid the problems of dry mucous membranes. The headphones are also very expensive, and you can get boxes of N95 masks for less than £1 a mask. I think the only use for something like this would be if there was a way plug the airflow from the headphones into an n95 mask. That might improve comfort for people who feel claustrophobic wearing normal masks or find the very small increase in breathing effort uncomfortable.

Ergonomic portable electromechanical respirators have been on the market for 10 years now. I have a ClanSpace HALO for work and it does everything this thing was supposed to do, uses HEPA filters and is medical grade. It also costs upwards to 2k tho. Dyson merely plagiarized them, while removing the most important features to bring down the price.

There was a PSA in my country on pollution and how our world is going to change if we didn't do something. This was in the mid-eighties. Rich people with air filtration masks, on their 'portable' phones, ignoring the poor who can only afford small hits of clean air from a type of vending machines.
@The93Momo93

I think the active filtering idea is good but they should have gone with a dedicated mask instead of mixing it with headphones. Something that actually quells bad smells with a proper seal would be neat.

I think the great design skipped the headphones, they look cheap and tacky, not a $1000 pair of headphones, like something off of Temu. I’m amazed they made it to market. I can see people in Asia liking them as they wore face masks habitually a long time before the rest of the world…

Thanks for mentioning the fan noise bleeding through on the headphones - that is crazy counter intuitive to have all that noise cancelling tech etc. but then have a high frequency hum or vibration that immediately negates that.

This is actually very similar to an idea I've had for a long time. Not because I'm an engineer or anything, but because I read a lot of comic books. I always thought it would be cool to have some self contained helmet type thing that managed your audio, air, could filter your voice, maybe some visual stuff but that's going overboard, built in camera, etc. Like a smart helmet basically. I could never imagine a version where it wasn't some giant bulky thing that looked ridiculous on your head, I'm glad to know Dyson didn't figure that out either.
@ProYagu
@ProYagu Жыл бұрын
It seems like the original idea was just to make the personal air filtration system, but the headphones were a (somewhat) logical addition to make it dual use so that someone may consider justifying its use. Most people won't wear just an air filtration system, but maybe they'd use headphones that also had the benefit of including one. For the record, no one is going to buy this, but its an interesting innovation, I suppose.
@SL4US

The execution is lacking. Its like they couldnt fully commit to either idea so both are subpar
@wge621

"Most people won't wear just an air filtration system" I think they would in places like china. I could actually see it being popular there. but not tagged onto headphones. It's always hard to combine two completely different ideas into one, because inevitably one or both will be lacking for all users. E.g. a microwave that also does the laundry - maybe i love the microwave part but hate the laundry, it would be hard to get both pieces to adequately satisfy most customers. honestly it's pretty surprising they did this.

Dude, no you wouldn’t lol. I don’t think ppl are buying this to be practical or anything else besides gimmick & saving it bc it will be worth something in the future just because it’s unique tech by a reputable company. It’s a cool piece of hardware/art & it looks very anime inspired which is also cool. Just because YOU don’t understand something doesn’t make it wrong. You sound like ur fun to be around at parties.
