Prayers up for God’s blessing on Emmanuel and Bri’s marriage. Also, prayers up for Emmanuel’s first wife. I can only imagine what it must be like for her after 21 years of marriage, raising children, supporting his art and standing by him after his infidelity. May she also receive healing and her redemption love story.

I know this won't be a popular comment, but I make it in an effort to think critically - not just criticize for the sake of criticizing. I think sometimes conversations on platforms like this can unintentionally glamorize certain scenarios. Scripture is a bit more stringent on the subject of divorce and remarriage than our culture is comfortable with accepting at times. It's hard to reconcile someone saying that they love God AND the institution of marriage, yet they were *unfaithfully* married for 21 years; realized the lessons they needed to learn (but seemingly didn't use them to change their behavior and stay married), is still fairly recently divorced, and went on to "privately" remarry (in this case someone much younger) and call that remarriage redemption as they didn't want to be alone. It seems like being alone was not the problem. We're all broken in different ways. Scripture doesn't tell us we need to be perfect (or completely healed) to marry or stay married to someone we have sinned against or who has sinned against us. But scripture it does tell us how to conduct ourselves so that either our singleness or our marriage makes us more like Christ, and reflects His relationship to the church. I think if we publicly tell this fairytale portion of the story, it's fair to question whether or not there was true, Biblical repentance and effort put into reconciling and restoring the first covenants that were made - not just, "I was broken so I made a mess over there...but come, look at how beautiful this other thing is that I just did." This is a complex topic. This is a complex scenario. I genuinely wish these two God's best.

I hope yall know that divorce is not an overnight process. It can be months to years to become legally divorced depending on the status of the person. Although their divorces were both finalized in 2023, the healing from those marriages could have taken place long before the divorce became official. Everything isn’t shady! Stop trying to pick apart the time line and just celebrate that God gave them both a second chance at love.

He said “ when I was in my single space I was really low…” That one statement makes me scared for Bri. I pray to God that this is the beginning of a lifetime of purpose and happiness for her. To come out of a 21 year marriage and get remarried so soon after, seems way too fast of a “detox” period for a healthy single period. I know Anything is possible with God and He can definitely move things fast. I really like Bri and I really hope she is now in her ordained purposeful marriage and not another toxic situation. God bless them both. I really mean that. ❤

I think it's been said, but it's possible his divorce was just 'finalized' in 2023. It's quite possible he and his ex separated way before then and he started the healing process. That was true for me and my ex. It took 2 yrs or so before the paperwork was finalized but we weren't living in the same house and were working to heal. Cases just get backed up in court. Especially when you have assets, children, etc... Anytime it's rescheduled, it could be MONTHS out.

I thought this was a beautiful chat but please let’s not discuss chats like this as though they should be the norm more than maybe an exception or something to go to God about. I mean if we are to talk about remarriage it would be important to discuss Matthew 5:31-32 & 19:3-9 ; what does our spirit and the word say about remarriage and not even in judgement because we are flawed and weak but I think it’s because we don’t acknowledge we’re going too fast from one thing to the next that Jesus is also like hey, that shouldn’t be a norm either . Just because it’s marriage doesn’t mean that remarriage should be looked at so lightly. We shouldn’t look to another lover and go where’s my next, where’s my next, where’s my next . I would think that God is a lot more intentional with who you really should be with.

After listening to this episode on Apple Podcast, I came over to KZbin to post a comment because I felt every part of this episode to my core. From start to finish, I cried, cried some more, laughed, high fived Bri on several points (including not giving a man my phone number, having a Mr. Sandpaper in your life, and seeking therapy to help me desire to respect and honor my future spouse), and rejoiced when I heard how God wrote a love story that encourages and inspires many. I love Bri’s songs, especially I Will Wait, the anthem to my single season. Emmanuel’s collab with Kirk Franklin the song I used to teach my children to see themselves when they were littles (now they are in their 20’s and they still sing it). Like Bri, I never thought that love would happen for me. So I paused the episode and cried an ugly cry from my soul. At 50, I have only ever given my heart and complete trust to one man at the age of 21. He cheated one time and produced a child. The broken woman in me would not forgive him or move past it, while he literally spent the rest of his life trying to fix it. Only for him to be killed by the woman he got pregnant, because he expressed to her that he loved me and was going to marry me. I was informed by his best friend that his father found the engagement ring he planned to give me when he would propose on the day he died. He asked me the Friday before to page him so that we can meet up and talk. I agreed. Then on Sunday, I refused , in order to teach him a lesson. Stubborn. Foolish. She killed him around the time I was supposed to page him. I lost him… and I lost me in August 1995. Since then, I never felt like I deserved a second chance, even though God promised me to give me a love that I have never known. I have been with others and have four children, but I never married one of them. I became a runaway bride, because I never felt like I deserved love again. It took 29 years for me to see how foolish I have been in my relationships. I need r to learn the lesson, and this was my punishment. Until… I heard this episode. I stepped away from social media weeks ago to do a deeper work. I finally “buried” my first love on Christmas Day 2024 (I never attended his funeral, and retrieved my heart only to give it to God fully to heal. This episode gave me hope as I grieved what was not, and I faced myself fully for the first time. I am heading back to therapy to work on broken parts of that story so that when love steps in again, I will take his hands and trust me to be ready to honor and respect him all the days of my life. Thank you Bri and Emmanuel for trusting Laterras with your inspiring story. Thank you Laterras for continuing the work and loving well the love of your life. All of it inspires hope. 🙏🏾💜

A beautiful prayer point to have, Lord let my spirit be sensitive to my spouse so I know when he/she is bothered/burdened. It really touched me when she said every time she was down, even when he wasn’t physically present, he sensed it and checked in. That’s more than an emotional connection. God’s presence is strong because we have not an high priest that cannot but be touched by the feelings of our infirmity (Hebrews 4:15-16) oh how He so loves us that He checks in when we feel down through the people we love and are safe with. May God bless their union. Love, maturity, discipline, willingness, respect and Biblical principles are what maintains Christian marriages.

When I tell you this entire episode blessed me in more ways than you know. Oh my goodness. I got hip to Bri back in November when she came to my city with Pastor Mike and Anthony Brown. I even got a picture with them too. I know I’m late to the party but I’ve been listening to her music nonstop. She has an anointing on her for sure. It was my first time going to a worship concert and being in full worship. I could not stop crying. So to hear her testimony with her new husband is a true blessing. I love the fact that they spoke on therapy and trauma bonding. Topics that are near and dear to my heart. I’m praying for you guys union! God has you guys. You will bless so many others.

I have to sow a seed of prayer for you both. God, richly bless Emanuel and Bri in their marriage. May they be the example of restoration and life and marriage after divorce. Thank you for showing the world that this who have been divorced are still valuable and loved and have wisdom to offer. Strengthen their bond and remove any outside hindrances from putting their marriage asunder. Cause everything in their lives to thrive and survives every storm or challenge. Let there be more good days than bad. Let their cycle of generational curse be broken in this marriage. May their children feel love and appreciation in every moment in their household. May they continue the love that they showed to each other in their dating phase all the way until death do us part. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen❤

I love this episode. As a fellow Louisiana lady, I love to hear her accent. The beauty of God that granted the desire that she never thought was possible is amazing. As a single woman for 3 years it is hard but to hold on to the desire that one day my love will come is where I have to trust in God. It is his timing that this will happen. I am so happy for you this season because I have been watching you for a minute and your voice is phenomenal. God bless you and your marriage journey.

Let me preface this by saying I am happily married for 29 years. I have many different roles and responsibilities. Including Therapist. I say/ask respectfully. I wish after interviews like this, the exes of these people had an opportunity to have THEIR perspectives heard. 21 years is a long time. And my heart aches for this woman that has endured her husband cheating multiple times on her. Happy for Bri, but as a woman in a long term relationship, I would want to hear the heart of the former wife. Is she happy and congratulatory?? Especially to hear her ex husband speak so well of marriage-NOW. I don’t know the details. That is why I would love to hear THAT side. Prayers for this couple. Congratulations!

I will be married 30 years next month if God allows us to live. I feel the same way. All the heartache that was endured and the wife never got a reward for it. But as a wife I understand your heart can be heartened to the point of no return. This marriage relationship is as complex as the sun.

I remember seeing her in early marriage- the first one, and I was relating to her In spirit like 🤦🏾♀️ not another sister in Christ! I could just feel that spirit taking on marriages that were not good for his daughters! Because I was going through it myself. I knew and recognized that struggle. It was a season of strengthening His chosen ones. He ministered to Isaiah 40:31 during that time of hurt and deception of my marriage. God bless you and your new union and thank you for always being vulnerable. May the Lord bless and keep you, sister in Christ! Prayer is going up for it all. God can restore!

Beautiful story. ❤ Once Laterras said Da Truth it all came back to me! When I first started walking with Christ in college, Flame, Da T.r.u.t.h, Thi’sl and Bizzle were the main artist I listened to. It’s was clean and spreading a good message and not secular but similar to the rap they were playing on campus. Thank you sooo much Da T.r.u.t.h for helping me get through my college day enjoying good clean music. I’ve put a lot of people on to gospel rap by listening to it loud and proud! 🫶🏽🙏🏼 I love you all. Peace and blessings!

I would love to know more about the age gap. She just turned 30 and I believe he is 47. I know age is "nothing but a number" for most, but in today's world - our generational gaps are so vast. How did this impact them? (sorry if my comment is early...commenting as I view)

I said in a previous comment that for older people to want to get involved with a younger person is for them. They are actually robbing the younger person of the opportunity to grow with someone their age. They will be okay for now but it becomes very challenging when her energy stays up and his begins to fade . She will either slow down with him or he will try to keep up with her energy and vitality. With age gaps it will work as long as there is give and take. Years ago a guy was interested in me he was in his 20s I was 40ish. I told him to take that energy into finding someone your age that can go through life WITH you. I’ve already discovered what you haven’t been through yet I would be cheating you out of your journey. And he found his person! There are challenges with age gaps..

This episode has done something to me and I’m not really sure how to put it into words. I have a lot to process. Having recently divorced in 2024 after 22 years of marriage and hearing Bri say she don’t think a certain type of love was for her just sent me into tears. I need to flush that out in therapy session this week. Regardless of what anyone thinks or says, I see God using their story as a sign of redemption, mercy and healing. Some thing we just won’t understand until it hit our door steps and even then it’s not your story it’s there’s. When Emmanuel said he asked God to give him one more chance I felt that. I said I would never ever marry again if I had to get a divorce and I was only saying that as a defense mechanism, when in reality I love love and love everything that marriage represents. This episode is more confirmation that I just need to wait and trust that God will not withhold anything GOOD from those whom he loves. 🥹 Dear future husband, I will wait for YOU. 🥹🥹😭 Thank you for this podcast.
