I just had this very conversation with the young cashier at the grocery store Wednesday evening. In the course of checking out I mentioned God. She said she believed in a higher power, but God was different for each person. It depends on how "they" view God. And that there were many I said, "No, there IS only ONE True God, not many." Our conversation was brief but continued on this line for a few minutes. Don't think I convinced her, but prayed Holy Spirit will marinate our conversation in her heart and give her spiritual eyes to see our One True God and His Son, Christ our Savior

I just finished reading The Eclipse of God and I absolutely recommend this to both Christians and non-Christians because the book will leave you more knowledgeable of God, our culture and it will inspire us all to draw nearer to God. They shall know us by our love, not by our doctrine and dogma. The perception of the church due to the putdowns of the poor, the disabled, whomever does not agree with their fundamentalist doctrine or dogma is turning off people. Kids who grew up in the church who were taught kindness, mercy and reaching out to bring love to others have seen their churches become more political, more rigid and materialistic. At Christmas, I was out with the parish street evangelization team, praying with people, offering resources, and inviting folks to church. I talked to a gentleman from a different denomination about being more open-minded and relevant. He said, "We should follow the culture, don't you think?" I replied, "No, sir. We lead and shape the culture. We don't follow it." He looked shocked at the idea. But that's why our pews are full and the ones at his church are not. We humans need guardrails to live our best lives in freedom through our Lord and Savior. Patting people on the head and telling them "there, there, do your thing..." is the cruelest thing we can do to each other.

I was a part of a youth group in the early 1990s when I was a teenager. So many of those in that group have made a God in their own image now that we are adults and it mystifies me. A little less than half of us out of that group really know Christ. This just shows me, salvation is God's business. I'm thankful I was truly saved and know the Lord. My heart breaks for those friends that heard something different and didn't embrace the God of the Bible

yes. I say knowing Jesus as Lord is not a head or intellect thing, but completely a heart thing. A heart decision. At least it is in large part. Don't debate or analyze it, just drop your pretense and hunble yourself before God in private. Pray. Talk to God. Ask for the eyes of the heart to be opened to the truth of the Savior of Humankind. I believe If you want to know Jesus and have him in your heart, just turn off your questioning/judging sense, and just let the spirit work in your heart. The Holy Spirit activates and the rest of the person follows... that's the best way I can explain. Reading scripture out loud to yourself and meditating on it does a mighty work as well.

I don't understand why you guys are up in arms about this lady. Sure, I get that "a woman is not supposed to teach", like a pastor or religious leader, anyways. I also get that it was a celebration of the new presidency coming in. I get that it probably made people uncomfortable - but isn't the Word supposed to challenge us?
