My Mom just passed away from Alzheimer's. It is a tragic disease. But she remember all 5 of us kids right up until she passed away. At least we had that comfort. She couldn't really speak a few weeks before the end. But once she reached that point she didn't linger in pain and slowly starving. IDK if people realize that happens. People with this disease usually quite literally slowly starves to death. Unless they have a stroke or a heart attack first. But at first they forget to eat. Then they forget that they're hungry and will NOT eat for anything. Then they stop drinking. And then the end isn't far away. Mom was gone in less than a week. We were blessed in that respect. My prayers go out to all who are suffering with Alzheimer's. And their families. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Rita Hayworth was a beautiful lady. What a hard life she endured when she was young, and she kept going forward. Alzheimer's is a cruel and tragic disease for the one who has it and the people who care about them. It is so sad that Beautiful Rita Hayworth went undiagnosed for so long. RIP Beautiful Rita, you will never be forgotten.

I happened to be there the day of Hayworth's funeral. We were standing in tier ABOVE the gravesite, looking down. MANY paparazzi were around us snapping away. She was stunning her whole life. I’m a big fan of Orson Welles and I recall reading a book about him where he stated there that she was deeply broken by her childhood and that was the downfall of their marriage. I get it, I myself manage Complex PTSD due to my own troubled childhood and every day is a conscious effort. In that day, I just can’t imagine how one could get through that without being broken. I think she became an alcoholic just to keep herself “sane,” that’s actually very common with this kind of thing. I think that she had a very strange relationship to sex and sexuality. I think the violence in her youth formed her, then she grew up a sex symbol and I’m sure that was a major source of contention in her life. Much love to Rita, I hope she’s now in peace.

I recall when during her later years she was arrested for shoplifting toiletries in Florida and the tabloids all ran pics of her looking really disheveled and seriously out of it and thought, "leave that poor woman ALONE!" Interestingly, in the 1964 John Wayne film CIRCUS WORLD she played his former love who had declined into alcoholism; but her character made a stunning comeback and she was again her old self as she reunited with Wayne and their daughter [Claudia Cardinale] she never knew. It's a pretty good movie that's too-often overlooked these days!

Rita Hayworth and most certainly Yasmin hold an important place in my heart. I recall reading and seeing on Television some of what Rita’s illness had been like. Yasmin played an integral role in bringing a broader awareness to a group founded in the early 80’s,The Alzheimer’s Association, serving on the board. Soon after Rita passed in May of 1987 I received a phone call that my father was ill, doctors calling it Alzheimer’s. I got my plane ticket to go be with him then called information to get the number of the Alzheimer’s Association that I just heard being spoken of by Yasmine in interview after Rita’s death. They were so kind on the phone and sent out right away a packet of information to me. Horrible illness, as are many the dementias we know more about now, but I still remember how grateful I was then, before much was know, to be armed with the education and support from The Alzheimer’s Association, and from in a way, these two incredibly strong women, who were thrown into a then less understood disease.

I took care of a lady in her 90s with advanced Alzheimer's. She would hallucinate. She lived in a two-story house, and we were sitting downstairs in her living room when she suddenly complained that the "people upstairs are making too much noise." Rather than try to argue that there wasn't anyone up there, I walked to the base of the staircase and yelled, "Hey, quiet down up there!" Then, I managed to distract her so she would no longer focus on it. On another occasion, we were sitting on her sofa and across the room was a bureau with a mirror. She suddenly announced that flames were coming out of the mirror. So, I threw a towel over it to "smother" them. I found that as long as it was safe to do so, playing along worked best when she hallucinated. Others have disagreed with me, saying that's not the right way to handle those situations. Those disagreeing weren't psychologists, doctors or psychiatrists. And neither am I. I did what worked.

Scott, I hope when your time comes, one of these 'Cemeteries of the Famous' will give you a nice, free plot. For all the formation you mine from these places, and how well you showcase and present the beauty of them, you will have certainly earned it ! :)

When I first read about Ms.Hayworth's "strange" behavior,I thought there was something "physical" affecting her thinking, not drugs nor alcohol. Her daughter,Jasmine, was very supportive of her and emphasized the overwhelming effects of Alzheimer's Disease in the process.
