Carole Lombard moved into this house after her divorce from William Powel. She was in love with the late, great Russ Columbo in this home until his tragic death. The way Russ looked at her, so in love! After his death, she began her love affair with Clark Gable in this house, Gable was still married, and because of privacy issues, Carole bought a house in Bel Air. I've been obsessed with Carole Lombard my whole life and walk by this house every day. It's a Treasure. Hope the people that live here Love the house as I do. She did live at this home when she was started dating Clark Gable. But then sold this home as Clark was still married when they met. She sold this house and rented a Tudor Revival home at 609 St Cloud Drive in Bel Air which was off the beaten track (later owned by Alfred Hitchcock). She lived on St. Cloud until Clark was free to marry, then bought director Raoul Walsh's ranch in Encino which is now 4567 Tara Drive (was on Petit Dr until they sub-divided the ranch after Kay Spreckles Gable died).

wonderful home--warm and inviting even without any furniture in it--sort of a reflection of the star--she had lots of warmth and a great sense of fun. a treasured friend I'm sure.

Whatever people experienced while staying there, they experienced. From what I've read about Carole Lombard's life, she was an unquiet soul who knew she wouldn't live to have white hair. She had a desperation to make the most of every moment because she knew she didn't have much time. If ever a soul with unfinished business on earth existed, it was she. I wish her spirit peace, but if she cannot move on, it doesn't surprise me. However, the house I could imagine her haunting is her home on Petit St. in Encino, where she lived with Clark Gable. But, not much of that original property exists anymore.

as a former caretaker of this home I do Believe That it is Haunted , I had been looking for a Certain Piece of Molding that had been removed by one of the worker's from a repair that had been done , for several weeks ,couldn't find it anywhere on the property , and on one of the occasions was doing some touchup trim work in the Living Room , Something told me to look in the fire place , and Their it was right in front of my face , Their were other people experiencing different things as well , One person who was hired to prep the house with his Cleaning person stayed the night one night and could hear a woman in high heels going up and down the stairs ,

How I would love to purchase this historic home, and how I would love to have an interior designer as talented as William Haines restore it to its former glory - beginning with that hideous kitchen! And as another poster said here, Carole Lombard lived in this house in 1934 while she was involved with the late, great singer Russ Columbo. They made a truly handsome couple, and by many accounts were madly in love with one other. No disrespect to Clark Gable, who I feel was the most handsome actor to ever grace the silver screen, but if Russ Columbo did not meet such an untimely end in September 1934 it would have been interesting to see how Carole's life would have been.

➕Paula Cerone.....I was going to say EXACTLY everything you said! I'd like to add that I believe Russ Colombo was the love of her life. The reason I say that is because I read somewhere that she requested to Clark Gable if she were to pass, she did not want a spectacle (as was done to Jean Harlow) & she wanted to be buried in white. ( The article hinted as in a wedding dress.) Although, she and Gable are interred next to one another at Forrest Lawn, Russ Columbo is also interred very near Ms. Lombard. Also, Kay (Gable's last wife is close by.)

In 1934 Carole Lombard was involved with the singer Russ Columbo--who died in Sept 1934 and not Clarke Gable--they did not marry until he 1939--when he was finishing Gone With the Wind. I like the house, but the warm details are gone from the 1930's and yes the kitchen does not fit--would need to be re-done--as another poster mentioned

"The algorithm" put this on my list for some reason. Even though this is from 2011, 13 years before my seeing this, I'm startled at the low price of $1.6. That's $540 per SF for this 2,960 SF house. The lot is 10,420 SF, twice the size of a standard SF lot. The price may be depressed because of the location, fronting on heavily-traveled and noisy Hollywood Blvd as well as its need for updating and the huge Laurel Gardens apartment complex across the street. MLS shows the house not for sale (Coldwell Banker removed their listing shortly after this) and "last sold" in 1994 for $420K with current estimated value of $2.9M.

It says A LOT about how today's leading actors are GROSSLY OVERPAID for their talent, when you look at the striking contrast in the homes of yesterday's stars compared to the HUGE, MULTIPLE MANSIONS owned by the stars of today. Up until the sixties, even the screen's biggest stars seldom owned more than ONE home, and that home was usually less than 3,000 square feet; often a lot smaller. This former home of Lombard's is no exception, being only 2,960 square feet. As talent grew smaller with each new decade, the paychecks grew bigger...and so did the houses, lol.

Nice peek into the house but I think a realtor with this caliber should research her life a bit more to get the facts straight (No offense, Steven, it's just a marketing suggestion). It may also add some selling power by presenting the historic significance of Carole's life in cinema paired with WHY she's such an American icon (and just why Gable enlisted as a result of her death). I heard a ghost story about this house. A woman was staying at this house when one night, she woke up to someone shaking her. She looked up to see Carole standing over her in a light brown suit, covered with blood. Carole had a very sad, sullen look on her face, like she was searching for something. Legend has it she was searching for Russ Colombo.

Carole was wearing a sleeveless black ball gown with a scarf on the night she died, not a brown suit. She had clipped two ruby pieces to her gown--which were a present from Clark and she wore to please him. Hours after the crash, when her body had been found under one of the wings, one of the ruby clips was still on her dress. It was given to Clark, who wore it in locket around his neck until the day he died. As for covered in blood--Carole was horribly burned....after being decapitated by the crash. There would have been no blood since dead bodies don't bleed. As for her looking for Russ, that's bunk. They had pretty much broken up when he died. Carole felt bad, but she moved on. She desperately loved Clark, and though they had a HUGE fight before she left for Indiana, Clark had sent her a bunch of roses as an apology. She missed him desperately--desperately enough to get on a plane at 10 pm and fly 17 long hours back to California. She didn't even bother to to change out of her gown. Her true love was Clark. And she was Clark's true love. End of story.

I love a good movie like anybody else. Yes, Carole Lombard was a good actress. But can we please stop treating these actors as though they were God. The reality is they memorized lines for a living. Carole wasn't just some celebrity. She truly cared for her fellow man and went up and out of her way to lend a hand to those in need. She had a big heart--even going so far as to help a young woman with TB go one to be a world champion tennis player who trained the likes of Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. She gave film starts to those who would have been overlooked, otherwise. And when Pearl Harbor was attacked, she was the first celebrity to volunteer herself to the war effort. When FDR told her that the best thing she could do was stay in Hollywood and make feel good films, Carole said "Screw that!" and devised a plan to sell war bonds. She went to Indiana with a goal of raising $500,000 (which in 1942 was A LOT of money!), and ended up raising $2 MILLION DOLLARS ($31.8 MILLION today). Sadly, she was the first civilian casualty of war. Who knows how much more she could have raised for our brave men and women in uniform, because the bond effort was scrapped after her death. So, before you get on your soapbox and pontificate about things you don't know, have a little couth. Some stars do use their celebrity for good things---without having the press following them around. Besides, what have YOU done for your fellow man today--aside from throwing rocks?
