[MHGU] Ahtal-Ka (Final Boss) - Aerial Charge Blade - 7'12"06

A huge improvement over my last attempt! This run was only made possible due to the help of a great japanese CB player called ウェザーボーイ("Weather boy"), who recorded and posted a run from which I could learn a ton. It'll be linked in the pinned comment for those interested. I'll take this 7'12 as a good enough time to try something else now. :p

I'm very thankful that he posted this run! For the interested, he's using the Akantor CB and the skills from his set are Bludgeoner, Artillery Novice, Razor Sharp, Airborne, Weakness Exploit and Crit Boost. His charm is Sharpness+5 Artillery+8 OOO.

Thanks for appreciating my runs! :) I got that charm all the way back in Generations, actually. My charm farming in GU has been mostly fruitless, so I know the feeling. :( Protip: if you're going to sell your soul for a charm, I think Artillery +10 OOO is a much better deal. :p

@@Deaga I got Artilley +10 OO- :( , and Expert +8 OOO hahaha. So according to Athena's builds tool I need something else unless I want to compromise using the Hayabusa Feather helmet :(

So close, yet so far :( I dislike the charm system precisely because of this. It sucks so much to come so close and yet be too short to activate entire skills.

Deaga Indeed, I can't understand people hating so much on decorations from World...at least I got something to tide me over along the way there. Here, too often it's all or nothing which often feels discouraging. But eh, i LOVE the game and will keep playing until something comes to Switch or Iceborn is released. Great to still see some new videos on MHGU like yours btw!

I think the problem with World's system is that it's fairly harsh when you're just starting to farm decorations. You either have or don't have the elementless jewel, for example, and it used to be THE meta skill early on. Bow users also have it rather tough with Might Bow Charge, Spread Up and Normal Up all ideally coming from fairly rare decorations. In the long run, however, charms are much worse. Each deco is just a single roll, so you eventually get what you need and that's it. But for charms, you have to really win the lottery to get a good first skill, good second skill AND good slots all at once. Getting 2 good charms in GU doesn't make for a god charm, but getting two good decorations separately in World DOES make your great set possible.

Great job! Nice to see another GU run from you. Any particular reason you went with the Diablos CB instead of the Akantor CB like Weather Boy did?

I can't replicate his set due to lacking that godcharm. His set actually has a bit less EFR, but I imagine access to Airborne compensates for that. Without his charm, I'd have to give up either Airborne (then the Akantor set is just plain weaker than Diablos) or Razor Sharp (chance to drop into yellow sharpness in the heat of battle; OH GOD NO!). Then again, Bludgeoner DOES make the phial bursts a bit stronger, which could maybe compensate the lower EFR without airborne... Or optimal Whetstone usage could compensate the lack of Razor Sharp. In the end, I was already very familiar with my mad sharpening strat with Diablos CB. So I just stuck to that. Both sets are most likely very close anyway. weatherboy's record on the TA wiki of 6'40 actually uses the Diablos CB too with a set similar to mine, except he managed to sneak in Repeat Offender rather than Critical Eye+2! I imagine he recorded his runs with the Akantor CB due to more consistency, as it gets 95% affinity, rather than 55%-65% with the Diablos one (depending on usage of Crit Eye+2 or Repeat Offender).

Aerial cb is so fun. What armor set? I’ve just been running standard jhocena with ahtal cb. Works really well
