Two things. 1) I don’t mind the stomp in the fight as Homelander already did more than enough damage. Killing Debbie and threatening his son was enough harm, emotionally I mean, to piss Nolan off for good. As such, it’s trading physical agony for emotional agony, or at least that’s how I see it. 2) Can’t believe Omniman helped Homelander chew that heart like Lander was Fredbear with the kid’ head from the Bite of 1987.

Two things to note: 1 - The name of the track "Diabolical! Invincible Me" makes reference to "Despicable Me" in the sense that two characters have done despicable things, but it can also be a reference to you know who so ... more clues (besides the reference in Scarlet Witch VS Zatana) that that matchup could finally happen this season. 2 - I noticed something Death Battle has been doing since season 6, a pattern called: "We put a character that Biff Weed likes against a Marvel character", Widowmaker, Genos, Po and now Tesuo that's just ... funny lol.

Regarding Omniman not screaming or reacting at the heat-beams to his eyes mentioned at 8:35 I would imagine 3 main reasons: 1: Homelander killed his wife/pet, he is NOT a happy camper right now no matter how much chill he is projecting, he's probably just too furious to care about the pain, much let something as minor as not being able to see slow him down. 2: Screaming or otherwise showing signs of pain or even discomfort from Homelander's attacks would imply/show that Homelander has any capacity what so ever to actually hurt him. Denying Homelander even a sliver of hope or sattisfaction from such a response helps add burden to his already unstable psyche, making for a significant (if not truly necessary) advantage during the battle as his enemy grows increasingly desperate and unsure of what he can do, to the point where at the end Homelander isnt even fighting him as he gets his skull crushed. Red Rush at least punched the hell out of Omni-man's chest while he was in the same situation and Homelander's skull should theoretically take a few microseconds longer to crumble under the pressure, but his will to fight has already collapsed. 3: the Immortal, while in a post-death fueled rage was only able to do minor, inconsequential cosmetic damage to Omni-man's eyes when able to put his fingers directly to his eyeballs, I dont think the heat beams will hurt as much. After all they cannot stop Omniman from blinking or keeping his eyes closed while he's getting blasted and the heat just isnt as much of a problem as intense direct pressure unless it gets a lot hotter than what those eyebeams are capable of generating. (Remember, Omniman got hit by a certain particle beam cannon and then flew face first into another of its blasts to little ill effect beyond a brief nosebleed, hot as those eyebeams get they dont generate close to that level of heat so what real harm are they going to do?).

Regarding Magneto vs Tetsuo, I really hope they have Tetsuo mutate and really play into the horror of the situation from his perspective. I wanna see him screaming in agony and crying his eyes out to remind us that at the end of the day, this is still a kid. I want Magneto to be absolutely horrified by the situation. I want him to be trying to sway Tetsuo over to his side the entire fight only for Tetsuo to blow him off at every turn and viciously assault him. I want to see Magneto realizing how out of control he's getting and try to reign him in. I want Magneto to realize he has no choice but to kill him to put him out of his misery. On the topic of short animations, I want to say this. Samurai Jack VS Afro Samurai was only around 2 minutes, and to me that was a 10/10 episode, we got quality over quantity and there was only one like pause which was moreso a great character moment. You can easily say the same goes for this episode, every moment didn't feel like a waste and the intro was already like....a minute long so technically the animations is a little over 3 minutes. So yeah, this was quite an episode and uhhhh as for the next episode, I feel like the death is going to be nasty af.

You know, on a recent rewatch I realized a clever bit of thought process when it comes to the death. Homelander dies in a way that destroys both his brain and his heart, the two main ways to kill a Viltrumite, implying that Omni-Man may have believed Homelander was some kind of man made Viltrumite or even thought Homelander was one of his own kind, and so decided to take him out in such a way that not even Viltrumites can survive. It shows that feeding Homelander his own heart wasn't just for menacing effect, it was a small bit of strategy to make sure he doesn't survive this

Ok. Gotta say it. When they crash onto the ground they vaporize the citizens around them. Then they're shown to be fine right in front of homelanders field of vision. Then we cut to Johns POV and they're gone? You could argue it's part of his mental breakdown except they appear again after his death. I'm only at 5:39 so I don't know if Biff mentions this but it's the one part of the fight that urks me. Even with that nitpick the episode still gets a 9/10. I was honestly surprised that they did really good with the references. I was expecting Omni-Man to just randomly do the 'Think Mark, Think' meme for no reason among others but besides one example, the bit in the analysis "Really wants his son to THINK", they handled them all really well. They managed to make the references while changing them up to feel natural to the conflict like "I'm not after your country" and mixing the Omni-Man train scene with Homelander's plane scene also kept it from feeling forced in. I groaned at that at first thinking "Whelp, here's the train scene" but then Homelander lasers the plane, subverting my expectations. And you know what? It actually makes sense that Omni-Man would do that as Homelander clearly cares about his public image so using him to unintentionally kill all the passengers on a plane would really destroy that, not that Homelander cared at that point as he just murdered them all himself. This is how they should do references, make them fit within the story they're trying to tell instead of just throwing them in randomly and lazily. The worst example I always think about is Miles doing the shoulder touch in Miles vs Static because I really don't see why Miles would do that to a random stranger but it also puts in a reference in a good way with Miles going "Keep sticking, keep sticking!" then "Stop sticking, stop sticking!" as that was a Spider-Verse reference but was actually relevant to the fight as he couldn't stick to the wall, then he couldn't stop sticking. Hopefully this is a sign they are getting better at the writing in regards to references because when they do things like the shoulder touch or Lobo crushing a whole city into a ball (because he did it in the comics like we talked about, remember guys!? D:) it really takes me out of the fight because it doesn't feel natural. I will say that the care they took with avoiding spoilers (minus what you showed which I didn't notice) irked me because they didn't seem to show that amount of care for stuff like Jojo and Attack on Titan, just explaining a future part in the previews even though it hasn't been animated and spoiling a major thing in Attack on Titan which wasn't relevant to the debate at hand. Just find it kind of shitty how they show so much care here when they didn't really seem to care the two other times. Maybe its just because they like these two shows more than Jojo and AoT but just because you may not care doesn't mean others don't, avoid unnecessary information as much as possible. Only other minor issue I have is the next time. I don't hate the matchup (to be fair, unfamiliar with Tetsuo so not sure what the theme of it is), its just that this season seems pretty comic book focused so far. Harley, Wanda and Zatana, Thor, Omni-Man and Homelander and now Magneto. Only Johnathan vs Tanjiro had nothing to do with a comic book property. I like comic books but there just doesn't seem to be much variation in this season. I'd like to see more video game, movie and anime characters, especially them fighting someone other than a comic book character. To be fair, I did want Omni-Man vs Bardock which would still have a comic character in it but I'd say my issue is that there were TWO comic book characters which just filled the season with more comic characters though at least they weren't Marvel and DC. Its not that I hate the characters, at worse I only dislike Harley and have no interest in Homelander, its just that I want to see other series get a chance to shine and its harder to do when every other match involved a Marvel/DC character. I imagine it will still be a good episode but hopefully the next time has nothing to do with a comic book character. Also notice that its as you said (I think you said this) where all the matches we are getting are the ones they've teased so there haven't really been too many surprises for this season. Makes it harder to be excited when we already know what to expect.

Another thing, Nolan didn't let Homelander have one single victory (other than bleeding ears) during the fight. 1. Nolan didn't react when Homelander killed Debbie. 2. Nolan shrugged off an explosion that sent Homelander flying. 3. Nolan mocked Homelander during the fight itself by teaching Homelander how to fight, and "What's the matter? Are you going to cry?" 4. When Homelander was about to die, Nolan opened his eyes to show Homelander that those lasers didn't even hurt and all he had to do was close his eyes.

Otherwise we may have a season only full of eight out of tens or higher.

The thing that makes me sceptical is that Nappa is so well known for his abridged counterpart, arguably more than his canon self. TFS Nappa gets quoted ad nauseum, but I have never heard a single person say they have any kind of attachment to canon Nappa.

Personally, I'm a bit mixed on this episode. I haven't watched Invincible or The Boys, even though I still want watch both despite my knowledge on events in both. But from what I've seen and heard, I do like both Omni-Man and Homelander. But I did want a bit more on this episode. I thought both analysises were fine. Not bad, just fine. But the fight is was I was kinda focused on more this episode. Now let me say, I agree that the set up is one of the best we've ever gotten, if not the best one ever. YongYea did amazing with the whole monologue, I loved it. DB having the balls to make him kill off Debbie, damn. Can't help but respect them for a risky move like that. But afterwards, I just kinda wanted more for the fight. Like the entire fight... Is fine. But I feel like it was lacking a few key things. For one, I was expecting way more innocent people to be collaterally damaged in the process. I wanted a bit more bloodshed other than the amazing kill at the end. Yeah, Homelander destroyed am airplane (which I acknowledge is a very cool reference on both sides) that no doubt had people in it, and those three people on the ground and the whole neighborhood was destroyed. But out of all those people, we only *saw* three get killed. Does that make sense? Idk, I just wanted to actually *see* more collateral, you know? Like say... Omni-Man just so happens to be flying over a crowd of people and Homelander heat rays towards him, not even caring that it's gonna kill many, like that one scene where he lazered that whole cloud in The Boys. Stuff like that. If there are any two characters you want bloodshed from, it's Omni-Man and Homelander. Also wish Homelander physically damaged Omni-Man a bit more. All he did was hurt his ears a bit and burn his face a bit. And I get it, it's to show how outclassed he his, but I feel like he could have put a little more damage to him, give him a fight that... Not almost kills him, but actually gives him a challenge like the Guardians. Also also, I feel like Homelander lost his shit a bit too early. After hearing how much he values his public image, especially after Nem's fantastic theoretical Homelander vs Hancock fight, I was expecting more of a build up to it. But like Wanda, I feel like it just... Happened? It was better, but I still feel like it just happened. So yeah, I understand the love Biff has for this ep, but personally it wasn't for me. I was expecting a much longer fight. The fight is 2 minutes, the set up, while fantastic, is 1. The fight feels over before it truly begins. And I get it, its a stomp and it feels that way, but stomps don't always need to be that quick. But maybe that's all just me. Fantastic voice acting, 10/10 fight set up, good track, ok analysis, very good kill, and good character moments and writing, I just personally wanted a lot more from the fight despite their limited tool kits. That's all. 7/10 from me, maybe an 8? I originally was gonna say a 6 but I realized it's not just above average, it's better than that. But I do get the love for it. It's good, 7/10 is "good" for me. I was just hoping for a bit more.

I adored this episode (minus one specific part of Homelander's analysis, I'm sure you can guess which part). First, they did a rather good job keeping things spoiler free, which I'm impressed by. In regards to that one bit you mentioned that you didn't think they did a good job keeping spoiler free, I actually didn't realize it was what it was: Specifically, I thought it was just Nolan ssaying that his healing factor was losing potency, but not that he was dying at that moment as he said it. So I think they did alright, but maybe I'm just not good at putting 2 and 2 together. Second, the voice acting. Tom Schalk was amazing as Omni-Man, doing a very decent J.K Simmons impression and managing to sound near unaffected and bored throughout the entire fight, right up until the end where he gets chillingly terryfing, but the real stand out is Yong Yea in his return as Homelander. Yong absolutely perfectly nails Homelander: His smug superiorty during his opening speech, his need for validation and beleif he can bully nolan in his 'Get the F*** out of my country" and his manic bloodlust and absolute fury in his little temper-tantrum he has while frying Nolan's eyes. Third, the animation. It's a wonderful 2d fight, incredibly fluid and everyone just looks great. Finally, the way the fight is written is just perfect. The set-up is, as you said, probably the best one in all of Death Battle, and one that's honestly rather personal. I think my favorite bit abouit it is that it contrasts some of the core differences between the two rather well. Homelander is bombastic and obsessed with his image, overwhelmingly cruel and emotional. He comes into a man's house and fries his wife to try and send a message because he's insecure in how he'll be able to stay 'on the top' with Nolan around. He tries to play this sort of 'cool and calm' personality, trying to show he's in control, but it comes off as insanely smug and emotional, not to mention crazed. Nolan's response is one of tranquil fury and calm, contrasting just how much of a warrior the man is. More than that though, it's his simple "I'm going to tear out your heart." that gets me. No swearing, no raised voice. Just a simple statement, a promise. And it's one that shows just how much his time on earth and his family has changed him: Homelander metaphorically tore his heart out by killing his wife, so Nolan's going to very literally return the favor. During the fight itself we get to continue to see the huge difference in personality and temperment, as well as scope. Nolan derisively lokks down on Homelander, seeing him as small and unskilled. His comments on the small scope of homelander's thinking (I'm not here for your COUNTRY) and his annoyance (not anger, just annoyance) at his incompatence (You have to turn with the punch) are gold. Homelander isn't a threat, he isn't even a pain. He's an annoyance, made worse by just how incompatent he is in comparison. For a man like Nolan, it's just offensive. And again, he never curses or raises his voice once in this fight. It's just beneath him. On Homelander's side we see him descend into madness and rage and it's berautiful. The shouting, the cursing, the tempr-tantrum, it all serves to illustrate how much of a narcissitic man-child he is. Then there's the fact that he can't actually hurt Nolan in any significant way. The only time he draws blood is when he shouts, manaing to have one tiny advantage over Nolan's one weakness, but otherwise it's all pointless. Even his heat-vision on Nolan's eyes, which at first seem to do some noticble damage, is futile and useless in the end as we see Nolan open his eyes and reveal that apart from being a little bloodshot, he's absolutely fine. And then there's Homelander's absolute terror when his jaw is ripped off it's joint. The realization that he's not only picked a battle he can't win, it's one he'll not be able to walk away from. Seeing him humilated and beat-down was wonderful. Turning this fight into an absolute stomp was the way to go for this fight: Homelander is just such a hate-sink that it works. I'm generally not a fan of stomps, but this is one of the times I feel that not only does it work, it's what should have been done (the only other time was Deadpool vs The Mask, and that was for the story aspect of the fight). Here everyone wanted to see Homelander get brutally destroyed, he's just that much of a hate sink, and we got it. All in all, an absolute wonderful episode. Not sure if it's in my top ten (again, homelander's analysis has that one bit that drags it down for me) but it's definitely one of my all time favorites.

It just fun seeing someone who full of them self getting just getting completely out class and destroyed in what they think they are unstoppable in. That what this is. I have not seen the boys but I know Homelander is a terrible person who full of him self. And seeing someone with that attitude who thinks he invincible getting destroyed, at his own game, is extremely satisfying.

My one major complaint with the episode is that they should have kept the Debbie reveal a secret. Maybe pull a Bucky vs Jason and put the teaser partway through, like maybe the road scene until the airplance scene.
@BiffWeed2 жыл бұрын
I really don't think they needed to hold off on it. Debbie's death was the thing about the setup to hook me the most, delaying it until later for no reason would not only hurt the pacing but it'd take away the most shocking part from the start.
@fierypiranha2 жыл бұрын
@@BiffWeed oh I meant like have the fight remained unchanged. But have the preview start a little bit after the reveal. Like how Red Hood vs The Winter Soldiers a started minute through the fight.
@BiffWeed2 жыл бұрын
@@fierypiranha That worked for Bucky vs Jason because it was like 6 minutes long. Homelander vs Omni Man is barely half of that, and 2 of those 3 minutes are dedicated to the setup and the death. That'd mean the preview would have to show more or less the entire rest of the fight and I think that would've hurt its reception in the long run.
