In all fairness, Ken's right about them downplaying Scorpion during the pre-fight briefing. It's kind of a flaw in some of the older Death Battles - they had a small tendency of downplaying the victor's strengths/achievements beforehand to try to fake out the audience. As you've seen in some of the newer ones - like Sauron vs the Lich King - they corrected that habit (for the most part) over time.

Scorpion is my favorite mk charecter, he is extremely powerful and I think he is one of the most underrated charecter. The rivalry between Scorpion and Sub Zero are still the best story in mk for me..

I mean, just the fact that he could teleport Ryu to the netherrealm was enough. Ryu was essentially dead at that point. Even if he could kill Scorpion, he had no way back to earth.

to be fair, Ken’s bet made sense here. This was a close battle because of Ryu’s overwhelming power versus Scorpion’s survivability. This was and still is a controversial result, however. Almost as divided as Link vs Cloud.

In the Konquest mode of Mortal Kombat Deception, which was really cool, it's revealed that Scorpion is actually the "chosen one" in the MK universe on this cross realm quest for the gods that the spanned from before Kitanas realm was conquered. So given the timeline idk how cannon that is, but even the gods were like... Scorpions out guy.

This is a great match up, where there's no blatantly obvious winner, the devil is all in the details. Ryu does seem to be the more skilled fighter but Scorpian being already dead changes the goal posts from being able to win a match to being able to put him down permanently.

17:54 And that's the thing with death battle Ken, sometimes they add info in later death battles after the battle is over that wasn't there before the fight and also they somewhat downplay some characters info even if they're op. You have to pay CLOSE attention in some later death battles to see the obvious winner but at the same time there are obvious winners before you even start the video.

You see. This is what i call a correctly made fight. I mean, it's a freaking Scorpion! He is not your ordinary human or a fighter. He is basically a demon from hell that can't be killed. And it doesn't matter if Ryu turns evil, or sell himself to satsui no hado 100%. Scorpion is way above it. And even if Ryu manage to defeat his physical form, his soul would travel back to hell, find another body, or regenerate his already defeated physical form and return back to the fight. And Ryu on the other hand, is just a simple human who knows how to magic and how a magic and how to fight. So, to stand a chance, Ryu need to become something like Akuma or Oni. Otherwise, Scorpion will win no matter what. Heck, he will win no matter what because he can't be killed, only defeated but not killed. Note, that i'm not saying, like most people that, "Scorpion would win because it's Mortal Kombat bla bla bla", no. I'm talking about the facts here. I have played both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, and learned enough of both of their stories to understand, what i'm talking about. p.s - Also he is basically like a Ghost Rider, but even more than that while on Quan Chi and Shinnok's side. Or, other words, while he is evil.

Now if you take a "human" Scorpion, like how it was portrayed in certain MK game... it would have been less interesting but another battle altogether. I don't like to mess too much with the multiverses, but I like to think Scorpion has as of now regained his soul and his humanity.

@@maxwinterwolf66 There is basically 3 versions of Scorpion. Human, Hell Demon and Grand Master. First one is before he got killed. He was a skilled fighter as a human and even more. He was a killer. His clan before he got killed was known as ninja clan, when Lin Kuei was not. Because, Lin Kuei is basically a mercenaries and their are varied in terms of different members, while Shirai Ryu is OG Asian people. Hell Demon version, is after he got killed. Quan Chi simply brought him back to life, and then put a spirit of vengeance inside him, making him a demon instead of human. Sure, there was a struggle between them for Hanzo's personality, but that demon was always a winner, until Hanzo found out a truth behind his family murder and who is true killer. And it is then, when Hanzo took over his body and turned against Quan Chi. And later, he defeated a demon inside him, which is what you can see in MKX Comic books, where Hanzo won against his inner demon. And he is now a human again, but with upgrade. He has his hell powers, that is left after he defeated that demon. And the Grand Master version, is after Hanzo became human again and restored his clan. And like i said, he still has his hell powers and stuff, but he is a human again, but more powerful than before he got killed. And his clan now is not a clan of ninjas. They are clan of protectors. In conclusion i will say this. DB authors did their research here right. Cause, if they put original human version of Hanzo against Ryu, then Ryu would won, and if they would put a Grand Master version of him against Ryu, then there would be no battle because, Hanzo doesn't fight those who is, to simply put it, not a bad guy. So by putting Demon version against Ryu, they provided not just a reason for battle, but also a correct outcome of the battle. Because, demon version of Hanzo can't be killed. Even outside netherrealm, if you defeat his physical form, he will respawn from hell again and chase you, until he kills you for sure. He is like your worst nightmare in this version, where you want to run from it, but eventually it always catches you.

As grounded as Mortal Kombat is even its weakest warriors can crush blocks of diamond with simple punches, and in turn can take those same punches to the face on the regular. Ryu was still a good choice though. Street Fighter power levels can get crazy.

Death Battles are always measured by a what a character is capable of at their peak. There's one battle particular battle where one of the two characters is measured by their peak abilities, even though the entire story they're a part of happens well after they're past their peak due to a significant injury they suffered before the story they're in starts. so for that battle, they scale that character's power to approximately what it would be at his physical peak as well as removing the limited time he can access it during the story because that's a result of his injury, not a built in timer that's connected to the injury itself. Basically, it's important to keep that in mind while making your predictions in these videos.

They really cheated Ryu in this. I don't know if the outcome would be any different but their reason for him winning being that his power is endlessly rising in Hell is just the no limits fallacy and more often than not, going to hell has never helped him win a canon fight except maybe one time. Even in games after this, we see him go to hell and watch him die fighting someone. So I wish they gave this one a remake.

To be 100% fair, Mortal Kombat has an INSANE amount of contradictions, like with Shao Kahn being able to defeat Blaze and hold his own for a solid time against Elder God-amped Raiden, but getting beat up by Kitana, but THEN beating her and Lui Kang, the one destined to defeat him, right back in Mortal Kombat Aftermath. So even if it only happened once and it is officially stated, it can still be used, at least in Death Battles eyes, as they look more at their best feats instead of focusing on their weaknesses, regardless of weird inconsistent moments. Kind of like how they mentioned Bayonetta being inconsistent with her speed, but still stuck to her best. But yes, this is an older Death Battle and they have said their rules of researching things are different from then, so the result would at least be slightly different.

I would not wager as much as older death battles before... maybe 2018 or 2019? They tend to leave stuff out in the preliminary analysis such a calculations or briefly mention things and don't elaborate as much previously in earlier episodes.
