I remember seeing this in the theater as a kid with my parents, and thinking this was the funniest movie I had ever seen. I’ve always felt this was Bruce Willis’ most underrated role.

This was another one of the 10 to 15 VHS tapes that we had to rotate through in the mid '90s, I watched this movie a shit ton growing up along with Overboard and Bird on a Wire, yeah I had a thing for Goldie too.

Fun facts: Robert Zemeckis removed an ENTIRE subplot with Ernest and a barmaid Toni (Tracey Ullman). The movie was considered too bloated and the ending way too much of a downer so they cut and reshot a lot of the third act 3 weeks before release. Originally Ernest found the potionbottle intact in the pool and went to Toni at the bar where they stage his death. 27 years later Toni and Ernest are old and content having a picnic in Switzerland... Madeline and Helen are also there, still looking stunning, but far from happy... especially Helen who when she sees Ernest with his wife, longs for a mortal life. 8:30 Helen put herself in the looney bin, it was in a deleted scene, she tells Ernest at the bookparty. We also find out she lost all the weight herself, not the potion...confirmed by some other deleted scenes in which Helen is exercising like crazy... also cut to make Helen look like more of a fraud. Fans desperately want the Tracey Ullman cut. I do think this movie rushes by in the 2nd half and where way too many cuts were made. The movie has more than 30 deleted scenes. 2 scenes that really should have stayed in are: Helen stalks Ernest when he picks up the formaldehyde, then Ernest drives to the Beverly Hills hotel, Helen makes it there just in time to act like she was there all along (almost hitting a valet with her car). She throws all the crazy Madeline obsession stuff in the other room, Ernest is at the door and goes on about the miracle. She thinks he has lost his mind, throws a glass of water in his face and she comes up with the burial plans. Ernest leaves and Helen again tears her hand open with a hankerchief. Then the next morning Ernest is sleeping in an upright position on the couch, the maid has entered the house through the kitchen, which is a mess. Rose finds it an odd scene, but then finds Madeline, stuck in the freezer... looking like an icicle. Madeline is not amused and tells Rose to get the breakfasttray ready. Rose closes the door and runs to Ernest who wakes up (is it up yet? yes sir its in the fridge!). Ernest panicks, tells her it is just a beauty treatment Madeline has been trying so he sprints to the kitchen and tears Madeline out (you can see this in the theatrical trailer). Madeline gets up all stiff (it's rigor mortis... walk it off!)... Ernest tells her to stick some avocado on her face or something then runs back to the maid. Ernest has a drink and fires Rose when Madeline comes walking out, acting like everything's fine... all crackly she makes her way (well tries) up the stairs. Rose gets an envelope and is pushed out the door. Then Ernest drags Mad up the stairs (I'm sweaty, I don't think it's sweat dear I think you're defrosting, also in the trailer) who is now realising her loss of looks.. but Ernest tells her he will make her his masterpiece.
