It is great that so many folk are starting to get out and relearn their heritage and enjoy the beautiful countryside our nation has to offer. We were all brought up to fear mushrooms and toadstools, which, I guess, is a kind of good thing, especially with these deadly species found so easily. However, a little knowledge, LOTS of referencing, cross-referencing and checking, can lead to an extremely rewarding pursuit. Me and my family can no longer go for a woodland stroll without leaving the path to investigate every dead fall or shady nook in search of mycological treasure!! Thank you so VERY much for sharing these videos. Fishing, foraging, and hunting, now we live in glorious West Cornwall, have become a pleasure for my entire family, and it is video likes yours which are leading us back to our birthright. Kudos, brother! 🤍🍄

Thanks that’s great 😁. Yes we do have a fear of mushrooms in this country which is good to a point. But an education on nature is much better, like in Poland and Eastern Europe almost everyone knows the mushrooms there, so don’t fear them

Love these videos. So informative and yet so relaxing. I have only started foraging myself at the start of this year but I'm a rapid learner. Thank you, I feel I have a good grasp on the most reliably safe mushrooms, but I can see this could easily be mixed up with eddibles, especially as you say if vulva is hidden. NB - seeing video is so much more informative, I find even the best well known books fail becuase of poor photo's, and very importantly photo's taken in different sitautions, some out doors some in doors, where the lightng can have a massive affect on the colour. I often wish they'd properly colour balance their photos. Your video looks well colour balanced. I'll be back to view more. Cheers.

I wouldn't pick up any mushrooms with a "leaf" spore dispersal system. Even when edible, they require long pre-treatment of boiling or salting. They also look repulsive like an insect's nest. Bolete mushrooms are rarer, but they can be easily identified by the "sponge" underside, and can be eaten right away lightly fried.
@UKWILDCRAFTS
@UKWILDCRAFTS 7 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean by leaf spore dispersal, do you mean gills? If so a lot of the edible mushrooms don’t require any boiling or salting. Also a lot of bolete mushrooms aren’t rare, very common in fact. And not all boletes are edible.
@j7ndominica051
@j7ndominica051 7 ай бұрын
Yes ,"gills". I missed this year's mushrooms, and went out looking in October. Many red fly killers were still around, but few edibles. Butter sticky bun has this veil and ring that is characteristic of poisonous mushrooms, but is fine to eat (if not eaten by slugs already). I only know some boletes that are bitter, but not very dangerous.

Why risking your life or friend life eating food that is potentially dangerous like Fugu (Japanese poisonous blow- fish) or wild mushrooms? It does not make sense. Only buy authorized mushrooms that you can find in supermarkets. Never buy mushrooms from farmer’s markets or pick mushrooms that look edible in the woods or forest or even in your garden. Not worth it.
@UKWILDCRAFTS
@UKWILDCRAFTS 7 ай бұрын
That’s a very simplistic way at looking at it. I learn about mushrooms and only forage a certain species when I’m 100% sure of its identification and know about any potential lookalikes that are poisonous. It’s only taking a risk if you try a mushroom without being sure. And myself or any responsible mushroom forager would never do that. Also the ‘authorised mushrooms’ you can buy in supermarkets are of poor quality. But if that’s the attitude you want to take it’s fine with me. More for us foragers :)
@souradeepmusib
@souradeepmusib 10 ай бұрын
Another simple identification process is. If there are insects in the mushroom those are edible .
@UKWILDCRAFTS
@UKWILDCRAFTS 10 ай бұрын
Hi sorry but that’s incorrect. Insects and other creatures have completely different metabolisms to us, so process chemicals differently. What’s poisonous to us may not be poisonous to them. I often see bugs eating mushrooms that are poisonous to us. There are no shortcuts like this that are safe to use, you need to identify each mushroom species individually :)
