Yes, sir! You can really feel the MSTRKRFT influence on those arpeggio chorus basslines. It's super rad to see an isolated version of how hard Jesse works! Much less to see/hear it performed with ease with an awesome live/recording mix. Thanks for posting!

nice one! The headstock sounds are so unique for each bass, but you nailed it dude.
@MrBrawl10 жыл бұрын
I know right? Originally, I was just gonna do what Jesse does live and hit the open strings, but I realized my headstock tension was set well-enough to replicate the original effect. Glad you thought so, too, man!
@carte0000blanche10 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, definitely got to concentrate on what you can do. If it sounds terrible I can get tempted try to get some kind of crash note instead, but it's a pretty superb cover anyway mate. There are some seriously satisfying riffs in this tune!

Found this video looking for the video of this song, came here only to say thanks dude! You made me think on buying a bass again and start praticing.

hey there brawl! i just wanted to say that watching you play the bass, especially to my favorite songs like this, are incredibly encouraging. im a bass player myself, but im still a rookie. watching you take on leads with a bass guitar makes me want to play even more, and practice more! i know this is a ramble at this point but i just wanted to drop a comment since this is one of my favorite covers by you. thanks again! - jj

Bad ass cover dude great job :) what distortion pedal you use for the bass?
@MrBrawl10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jesse! Read the description! :P
@VincentFirebird7 жыл бұрын
what is the best combination for the dfa1979 bass sound ?
@MrBrawl7 жыл бұрын
Vincent Ligny Any distortion and chorus pedal should get you close enough. There's a builder named Big Game Pedals who made a pedal based after one of the amps that Jesse from DFA uses, but it's no longer in production. I think you'll be fine getting something like a RAT or MXR bass distortion.
@VincentFirebird7 жыл бұрын
the Proco Rat ? Thanks mate
@MrBrawl7 жыл бұрын
Vincent Ligny Yup, that's the one!
@TSALVADOR979 жыл бұрын
Perfect! In which part did you use the chorus? :)
@MrBrawl9 жыл бұрын
Tomás Salvador The whole thing. Chorus is always on for DFA songs.
@TSALVADOR979 жыл бұрын
Yes I know they use it as a signal splitter. I just thought you had a different use for it 😅 great sound tho!
@scotchrobbins8 жыл бұрын
+MrBrawl That's a pun, isn't it?
@Brian-dl9sz10 жыл бұрын
Few questions, since you had the fuzz pedal and the tube screamer going at the same time, did you just have the mix on the tube screamer turned down? Also the TC-7 chorus pedal, I can't find any youtube vids for demos on what it sounds like, exactly what is it adding to your tone here? Is it significantly different from other chorus pedals?
@MrBrawl10 жыл бұрын
Hey man, sorry for the late reply. First off, it's a distortion, not a fuzz; there is a difference in this application! Jesse from DFA only uses distortion, specifically the built-in distortion in his Peavey Super Festival 800B. The mix on the Tubescreamer should be around 10:30/11 o'clock, for me anyway. Honestly, I changed my "DFA tone" for almost every cover I did, just to experiment and based on how I was feeling at the time. And no, it's not significantly different from other chorus pedals except that it's a stereo chorus, which would give me the option to do what Jesse does: Split my signal between two amps. Unfortunately, I can't afford two bass amps, so that won't be happening any time soon!
@SyntheticBassDream8 жыл бұрын
Checking out your DFA covers is really helping with a project I'm doing at the minute. Trying to nail JFK's tone without his amp, you are REALLY close. Are you using the pre-amp to help drive or are you running it passive?
@MrBrawl8 жыл бұрын
Scott Bacon Passive. My Fuzzrocious Rat Tail and Ibanez Tubescreamer did all the work. Glad this is helping you man! Make sure to add in a little chorus, too. That'll help shape your high end.
@MrBrawl8 жыл бұрын
Scott Bacon Also, Jesse primarily used the neck pup. That helped me, too.
@SyntheticBassDream8 жыл бұрын
MrBrawl cool thanks man! Getting a chorus pedal this week. Do you put it after the distortion?
@MrBrawl8 жыл бұрын
Scott Bacon Yes, but it might be even more effective to put it before, as JFK uses the distortion in his amps, meaning his signal chain has chorus first.
@beckerzineo10 жыл бұрын
What's the tuning of your bass? I'm really curious
@MrBrawl10 жыл бұрын
Same as pretty much every other DFA1979 song ever lol. D standard (DGCF).
