The only reason people can't fathom Death in June's aesthetic expression is due to their own inability come to terms with the futility of history. I think when people feel the need to ask themselves why Death in June needs to use this imagery they've already answered their own question. Which is purely a moral and political one - not one of aesthetics. There is also beauty in ugliness.

I love Death in June and this song is one of their best. However, I find Pierces Nazi obsession pretty obvious, despite his weak explanations for it. If any other band used this much Nazi symbology in their artwork and lyrics, I'd write them off as idiots. For some reason with Death in June, I deal with it. Haven't figured that out yet.

1) Douglas P is clearly fascinated by Nazi imagery but is not a Nazi. Things are more complex. 2) However, he has expressed sympathies for the SA leader (and homosexual) Ernst Röhm. 3) Just look at his interviews and you will see he's clearly far-right and white supremacist. Which I REALLY don't like, but deal with. Because Death in June is a work of art, the personal opinions of Douglas P don't really matter to me. 4) He played in a leftist punk band 40 years ago. And changed his mind since.

i really dont know what to think about di6. great music and playing with fascist or communist sybols in a band is "cool". but for me he does it a little bit to "extreme".
