How refreshing to hear a dignified actor who is grateful for his opportunities. He sets a good example for aspiring younger actors.

Death in Paradise is a wonderful show and in addition to the sun, sea, light and vistas, there is a superb nostalgically slow-paced 1970's vibe, albeit positive, even charming, like chicken in a basket: It celebrates rather than laments. All those Caribbean influences that have left an indelible mark on British culture are obvious, including its use of superb ska classics. There are other 1970's references, such as the looks boasted by beautiful ladies like Sara Martins and Fola Evans Akingbola which are no longer fashionable, but are timeless for their charming desirability and do strike me as more a throwback to "blaxploitation" film, rather than anything Caribbean. Don Warrington is so distinguished and is wonderful as Selwyn Patterson; he does remind me of Geoffrey Palmer in West Indian form but paradoxically also perfectly embodies the "stiff upper lip"and is just as comical; he would be perfect as a prospective father-in-law which is the aura he gives the Commissioner, namely he seems very intense, but always seems to be smiling innately which makes the character all the more amusing. The show boasts many wonderful characters and cleverly manages to be escapist, while capturing the realities of these beautiful islands that can be tourist traps and the subsequent dangers that can ensue. Death in Paradise is great and does not take itself too seriously and has many fans in my island, Australia. Thank you kindly for a great post.

Love the show! As I'm in the US, I was not familiar with Don Warrington until I started watching Death in Paradise. To hear him with a British accent is a real kick, as he's so convincing with his 'island accent'. Very nice interview!

Being from the U.S., I like that this show can be watched by the whole family. It reminds me of American shows from the 1980s, that aired at 8pm, which used to be the family hour on American TV. There isn't a realistic autopsy with an overload of clinical facts and gross corpses that kids couldn't watch. This show is quirky and fun with it's regular cast of characters. I really love that there are 4 regular cast members of color. Sadly, I don't see enough shows like that here. I also like the mixed culture aspects of the show: island life and the French and British mixture. It reminds me of Murder She Wrote, except with a more diverse cast in a tropical climate, with well known British actors as the guest stars. I used to be able to view this here on Netflix, but now borrow the dvds from my local library. Thank God for libraries during Covid-19...don't worry it's all done no contact. We place a hold for an item online, get an email when it's ready, and they leave it in the entryway of the library to pick it up when we call from the parking lot. See, technology isn't all bad!

For me, one of the reasons why the show is so popular is because you get to solve the crimes as well. Everything thing that happens in an episode no matter how trivial, every clue, every word said by the criminal is part of the large picture and when you gather all those clues you can use them to solve the crime. In most police shows you do have sub-plots that are also happening along with the main story but unlike Death in paradise the sub-plots can be used to solve or related to the main plot. For example, remember the episode with the beggar lady where a man dresses up as an old beggar woman and use that to rob people, well all that story was not linked to the main story but it was the means that Ben used to solve the case because it was all about misdirection. Like I said do not dismiss anything you hear or see because I guarantee you those clues are part of the larger plot story.

I personally hate these stupid waste BBC’s money to boring whodunnit series. It’s too costly to filming at Caribbean with too many actors & crews enjoying climate weather.
@007jerkins3 жыл бұрын
I think you'll find that the BBC will sell these programmes on to other broadcasters at some considerable profit (I believe it's a co-production as well, so the BBC isn't paying the whole cost up-front).
