@Thescott165 жыл бұрын
There's just something about the 90's and early 2000's mix of practical and CGI effects that many modern movies just can't replicate... Sure, there was also plenty of crappy CGI from that era (The Mummy Returns) and there have been a lot of great VFX movies in recent years (Inception), but movies like The Mummy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Independence Day, Pirates of the Caribbean, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Titanic, The Matrix, and so many more all made incredible use of what limited things CGI could do at the time by combining and complimenting it with practical effects (or vice-versa, complimenting incredible practical effects with a little bit of CGI) for a very believeable and immersive end product.
@greypilgrim2284 жыл бұрын
I think it's because the practical effects grounds it in reality, while the little bit of special effects pushes it that bit further into whatever fantasy or world the movie is set within, allowing your imagination to run with it. Movies today use far too much CGI which although looking cool in certain aspects, just feels like uncanny valley and breaks your immersion. This especially true when using it with people, the Scorpion King come to mind as you said, but also Grendel's mother in Bearwolf.

I remember seeing this first time in the theatre and it was intense: the order to kill is given and suddenly aspirations appear and literally take his power away-we see his immortality even reaching out to him. Shot gets real at the crack of the whip 07:27

Jonathan: Evie hurry! Evie: YOU'RE NOT HELPING! Mummy Returns - Evie: Patience is a virtue! Rick: NOT RIGHT NOW IT ISN'T!

I like how this contrasts with the sequel. Here Imhotep throws Rick around like ragdoll but in Mummy Returns the playing field is even, both duke it out hand to hand.

I like how when Rick is sitting there clearing out Imhoteps priests around Evelyn, Aank san amun is just laying there chilling.

My cousin used to always laugh at that part because O'Connor's face was turning blue from being choked. XD 7:25

As a teenager (I was 13 when this came out) I was in awe of Rick's stamina throughout the movie. He endured a lot of running and beating lol
Brendan Fraser always the one who can make scenes with lots of tension with laughter lol

Arnold Vosloo was so brilliant as Imhotep. Even Billy Zane couldn’t have done a better job.

After 20 years, the graphics still looks better than most of todays ultra 4k movies

This film was just perfectly calibrated in every aspect. They should have tried to make O'Connell interacting with other Universal monsters in the sequels, instead of a mummy-centric series.

I fail to understand how the prequel looks classier than the sequel in terms of graphics and editing quality.

Sequel was rushed.

The sequel special effects were just as good if not better. The only part that looked really was rendering dwayne johnsons face on the scorpion king fight. That part was awful

KZbin algorithm done right. I've got the recommendations after actor Bradon Fraser coming back to act again. Man, he was everyone childhood hero. See this movie again is like living in your childhood again.

If you don't feel a bit bad for Imhotep, you need to rethink your priorities Also, appreciation for Brendan Fraser!
