The thing about Death, is that their lyrics, while some of the most gruesome ever heard, had some basis in truth to them. Look at "Open Casket" for example-it's a hard look at the reality one gets hit with at a funeral. I speak from experience, and it's something many of us can relate to. "Living Monstrosity" is the cold hard truth about the horror of crack babies. Death also had a way of making the macabre also somewhat morbidly fascinating. They're just that good.

In the summer of 1990, I was 14. I walked in to Twisters at East Park Plaza in Lincoln, Nebraska. I bought Grim Reaper Rock You To Hell. The cover art was awesome. I also bought Death Spiritual Healing. When I put Death in to my cassette player. This song came on. I realized at that moment, I needed to hear more. Since then, I have been into Death Metal. I still crank up this entire album.

Loudness War? Sorry dude but this has nothing to do with that. I mean, for shit's sake it was Jim Morris who himself who remixed Human - Jim who produced the final two DEATH albums. He's as old school as they come. Similarly, our engineer Alan is also very dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. They do not over-compress or over-limit. What you hear is more of a dynamic range - it isn't that it is 'louder'. (rolls eyes, leaves room) ;) ERIC

I think the reason for this (I agree completely with your comment btw) is that Human and SH are only remasters where the overall levels are adjusted, whereas ITP was a total remix & remaster where each individual instrument track was adjusted. Sadly they followed the current trend of putting the volume levels of the premastered mix "balls to the wall" and there was no head room left for the mastering process to play with. (ala Death Magnetic's big issue.)
