I still get chills when Aizawa and Ide show up. It's one of my favorite moments and Aizawa is one of my favorite characters. In the manga, when Aizawa and Ide return, there is a conversation between them during this point. We learn that when Ide left the Task Force, (back in episode 5 of the anime), he continued to work on the Kira case on his own. And he secretly recruited a group of police officers who agreed to go after Kira, even though the police were not supposed to be looking for Kira. When Aizawa left the Task Force, he returned to the police and helped Ide out with the Kira case. Ide asked Aizawa to lead them because Aizawa knew the most about the Kira investigation. They both thought that Matsuda really had fallen off that balcony and died, too. Aizawa says that he could barely contain his excitement when he saw Matsuda on TV and learned that he was alive. @★ Froggie Animation ★ I like Ide, too. He's such an underrated character. And he's not even included in the Japanese live-action Death Note movies, but the rest of the Task Force is. My guess is that Aizawa and Ide saw the article in the newspaper that announced the death of Misa's manager, who they would know was Matsuda. The article is only shown once and very quickly. Kida, one of the Yotsuba guys, reads it out loud.

I know I’m in the minority but I personally like the next arc, it’s not without it’s flaws (some elements are a bit too convenient and the pace is a bit rushed), it is weaker than the first half of the storyline I’ll agree but I still enjoyed the series from start to finish, DN will forever be solidified in my top 5 favorite anime

Yeah, I feel like it makes sense that some people don’t like it, but the story isn’t complete without it. The end of the first part is arguably the main climax of the show. So everything after feeling like a let-down to some would make sense, as narratively the story is winding down (not to say there aren’t twists and turns in the second half), but if you only follow a story to the biggest climax, most trilogies would end in the second part.

The start of next episode might be one of my top anime moments ever. Also, FWIW the Akira manga has a more fleshed out plot than the anime, but then you’re missing the artwork of the anime.

Milo Sahara Curry Yeah! If I’m being totally honest, a lot of people actually don’t even hate the second half of the season as much as it seems. A lot of people just follow the hate train because L died, and that’s it. The characters introduced in the next half are so interesting, Near, Mello, Mikami, etc. These characters really shine and I really hope that these guys like it as much as I did. I admit, it isn’t god tier like the first half, but it’s still great. If anyone disagrees, I’d love to hear why.

Light gave up ownership of the both death notes, following the rules of the death note. it wouldn't go back to Misa or Light, it goes back to Rem (if he was to die)

you guys are overcomplicating this. Once the owner of a death note dies, it doesn't return to any of its previous owners, it belongs to the next person who touches it. Besides, the notebook in possession of Higuchi didn't belong to Misa, it is the original notebook from Light, who made the two Shinigamis switch the notebooks between them (as a move), as shown in ep 16, I think.

Drive Knight It was'nt Ryuzaki that kept an eye on Mikami. It was Near/Nate River. Ryuzaki/L was'nt in fact around when Mikami became Kira. Ryuzaki died. As a matter of fact,Mikami don't appear until later on in the series.
